Not the first time I’ve tried this joint, but sadly the last. I was not impressed the first time, but the staff was nice enough. Rubbery potatoes, stale bread, and breakfast was served in courses. It was not hat busy, so I’d like my toast(fresh preferably) with my eggs, not 5 min or more later…

My first impression when we pulled into the parking lot was… oh how cute, looks like a longtime hole in the wall type of place… those are my favorites! You walk straight into the dining area, just make your way to the counter(if you are placing a ‘go’ order) or just grab a seat… this is a seat yourself place. It is a big, open space with plenty of seating. I felt like the place was a little sticky. Even when we sat down, I felt a little icky. The picture hanging next to my head had a piece of hair stuck to it, and it kind of grossed me out. I didn’t want it to fall into my food! Like most older places, the menu had a feel of sticky film on it. I could be over exaggerating though. Now, the food was delicious! I had half sandwich and cup of soup. The clam chowder was OMG yummi! I wished I had opted for the bowl instead! and the chicken salad sandwich was tasty, and it was not canned chicken! So they don’t cheat when it comes to making good stuff. The food definitely warrants another visit despite the stickiness feel of the place. The staff is very friendly. They just need a little sign that tells you to seat yourself(so you don’t look so confused) and a good wash down of the building!

Not my cup of tea, service was friendly but not attentive. Really tried the burger hunter by putting white American and trying to charge me for Swiss. Waitress said I was the first person to catch it… 9 bucks for a frozen patty and bun. Never again. Not sure on other menu items, place was busy. Maybe meat and 3. Priced high for food grade. I’d pass

I was a little skeptical when i read some of the reviews. But we decided to try them anyway. We were in a little bit of a hurry so we ordered some simple stuff. My hon got soup and sandwich. The clam chowder was delicious! Nice hunks of clams and kinda peppery. Her chicken salad sandwich was a neat little size. She could tell it was not canned chicken. I got a patty melt. It was average. Not bad but not amazing. The fries were standard crinkle fries. Needed salt. The staff was extremely friendly! Ill go back and try other things.

This place is awesome!!! The waitresses are very friendly and appear to be long-timers. Low staff turnover tells me that people enjoy working there. Customers are treated like family. The food is terrific – just like your mother used to make. Everything is fresh, perfectly cooked and very light on the salt. There is no décor to speak of, but with good home style cooking and a friendly atmosphere, you don’t miss it. The place is not ugly by any means, just plain and always very clean. The prices are very reasonable, especially when considering the generous portions. The only negative is that the hours are limited to breakfast and lunch only Monday through Friday, although I still give it 5 stars. I only wish I could eat there more often! This is a family owned and operated restaurant, and the owners are truly passionate about serving great food and providing the very best customer service. I wish there were more restaurants like this. Two Doors Down is a gem and a special part of the community. This is my kind of place!

Jacksonville’s «so-called» important politicos convene at Two Doors Down to discuss news, strategy, deals and secrets. I know this because I’ve been to this restaurant too many times and I’ll always see a judge or a former mayor or a school board member or someone who is running for office. The politicos who frequent this place will laud the food here, but in the times I’ve been here, I haven’t been impressed. In fact, when I’m cruising down Park Street, I’d rather get a sub from the nearby Jimmy John’s than go to Two Doors Down. The only reason why this place does not get one star from me is because the wait staff, mostly women, are sweethearts. I suspect they have to be because their normal customers are very powerful men in the city. The parking and the dining area is not huge, but sizable enough to accommodate a crowd. If Two Doors Down would like to be a destination place in Jacksonville and not just an ant hill for politicians, the menu needs a major overhaul.

Big, clean atmosphere and friendly attentive service but the food is lacking. Not much flavor or excitement going on here. The corn nuggets were good(no homemade ranch though — just little peel-back containers of Ken’s Steakhouse dressing) — a big portion and lots of sweetness. Went with a group of five for lunch and found everything we tried to be okay at best. I ordered the tilapia with a side of okra and tomatoes and black-eyed peas. None of it was memorable at all, and the fish was watery and bland. I’ve also had a big salad with chicken and it was uneventful. Lots of iceberg(it would have improved if it had been romaine or at least a blend of romaine and iceberg), shredded cheese, a few tomatoes and cucumbers and some chunks of chicken. While there’s not a lot of dining options in the walkable general vicinity, venturing less than five minutes to Riverside or Avondale opens up a lot more choices and variety. That said this is a good diversion(if you work nearby) to Little Joe’s/Akel’s in the Raymond James building and Johnny’s Deli(ick).

I heard such great reviews about this place that I decided to try it out. I’m always looking for a local joint to support. When I say you need to get there early, this is true. The place fills up quick. I got there just after 11am and by 11:30, the place was pretty packed. Honestly, though, I’m not sure why. Convenience, maybe? I wasn’t greeted when I walked in, and 2 servers made direct eye contact with me without saying a word. I wasn’t until I approached the counter that one of those servers, almost begrudgingly, assisted me. I tried the daily special, a baked chicken over yellow rice w/gravy, green beans and cornbread. Green beans came straight from a can and were lukewarm. The chicken was a nice portion, a ¼ chicken, but the flavor was lacking and it was a little dry. The rice was also dry and a little hard. There was a yellow gravy I got on the side which I had to put on everything to make it moist enough to eat, but even that wasn’t spectacular. The cornbread and my ice cold water were the highlights of my meal. Maybe the cook was having an off day, because I have heard nothing but great things, but I probably won’t be going back… The prices are a little outrageous, too, for the service and quality of food I got.

We had lunch there today. Definite 4 stars on the French Dip sandwich with nicely grilled onions and gooey hot melted cheese dripping off of the sides on top of a generous amount of thinly sliced grilled steak. The other entrée was the 4 way veg plate which was a solid 3 star. A lil more seasonings/love would have bumped the plate to a 4. Looking forward to the next visit and ordering off their great sounding bbq menu.

Phenomenal service, really sweet, caring waitresses. Owner is a nice guy and checks on you with sincerity. Good down home southern cooking. I used to love their breakfast until I experienced Metro Diner. Now, I’m just a big fan of Lunch. I bring people from all over for their pork chops and biscuit with gravy. Only down-side would be those Tea Party bumper stickers and ultra-conservative politico propaganda on the counter.

Two Doors down has a traditionally Southern menu and I don’t care what Ruth and Idgie say — I do not like fried green tomatoes. This is the 3rd place from which I’ve ordered them and I just can’t get into it. That being said, I wish the tomatoes from Two Doors Down were more substantial. You know– thicker slices with more breading that adhered better. As I was eating them, they kind of turned into a sour mush that was about as appetizing as it sounds. The fried chicken here is freaking amazing, however. I think they used the same breading as they did with the tomatoes, but it was much more complimentary on the chicken. Not so much on the fried pork chops which were cut thin and, therefore, ended up dry. My coworker raved about the gravy on her mashed potatoes. I don’t know what the hell she was talking about because this was the same gravy on my rice and it tasted like gravy from a jar. The green beans were good. The prices are reasonable. You can get a very substantial meal for under $ 10. Parking is a bitch during lunch when I think the entire workforce of Blue Cross Blue Shield shows up.
