The food was alright. Nothing to brag about. But the friendly bartender is what earns this place 3 stars. If the food was better and the prices were better this could easily get more stars. If you try this place I hope you have the bartender we had.

Bar Avion begs for a one-word review: Expensive.

Wow, VERY very narrowly avoids a 1-star rating, but only because its cheesy warm brie dish was delicious. Apart from the food, a lot was wrong with this place. — The servers make me feel uncomfortable. They’re arguing full-volume in the corner. For over 10 minutes. And I’m talking some SERIOUS arguing. One person calls the other one ugly. The other one calls the first one a terrible manager with no sense of how to do her job. They’re both swearing left and right. I’m half-expecting one of them to pull out a «your mamma» line. — The customers make me uncomfortable. Most are loners, but semi-creepy loners sitting at the bar. There’s staring and tipsiness. — The sneakiness. The server immediately brings an ice-cold bottle of Voss water to the table. Me: «Um…is that free?» Her: «No, it’s $ 12.» Me: «Um — no thanks. Tap water is fine.» Her: «A lot of customers just take this with them on the flight. It’s a great souvenir.» Me: «Isn’t that illegal? Taking a half-empty bottle of water on a plane?» Her: «Uh…yea, it is.» Awkward pause. Cool décor, but there are lots of much better, less painful ways to kill time in JFK before your flight.

Didn’t eat anything here but did have a few drinks. The server was pretty nice and they basically let us hangout for the whole NBA playoff game while we were waiting for out flight. Sure beats sitting in the middle of the gate seats.

One of the last places to eat in Terminal 4 at JFK before going through security. My thoughts — keep going. Bar Avion is a washed up, wanna be «classy» bar and restaurant. I sat at the bar to eat instead of at one of the linen table-clothed tables. However, half of the bar wasn’t being used, there were cups over the taps which had not been cleaned and smelled and had fruit flies swarming around them. The empty shelves where bottles of liquor were supposed to be placed had a layer of dust on them. The menu is less than desirable. I had a salad, my last salad for a few weeks as I was going on vacation to a country where it was recommended to not eat the salads/vegetables. The salad was mediocre, not as exciting as my «last salad» as I had hoped. I also had a Diet Coke which took forever to get a refill on after I asked the bartender multiple times. At the other end of the bar was an extremely drunk guy, talking nonstop. The bartender was actually encouraging him and continued to serve him. Serve him some bright blue drink, not even ‘normal’ drinks. The rest of us at the bar and in the restaurant were just annoyed listening to his ramblings. Being at the airport, it was overpriced. Unfortunately, there really isn’t a lot of eat in the terminal besides Pizza Hut and other fast food.
