My favorite Colombian bakery!!! I am what you would call an empanada connoisseur. I have hit almost every empanada spot in the tri state. This is my favorite. My mom who usually comes with me will get some kind of sausage. My usual order is an empanada a bunuelo and a pan de Bono accompanied of course by a manzana soda. All there stuff is good. Yes I am a «gringa» but I come from a very Spanish background and I know good Spanish food when I taste it. Make sure you give this spot a try!

Rating des Ortes: 4 Richmond Hill, NY
This has been my go to spot for coffee in the neighborhood for years now. The have these amazing corn choclos that I fiend for every morning. The service is excellent and each of their items taste delicious. There is a sense of community at this place that is not too common in the area so it’s refreshing to visit them and their coffee is the best you can get around here.

Rating des Ortes: 4 FOREST HILLS, NY
Walking through the bustling busy streets of Jamaica Ave, one can not help but find a few gems of different shapes and sizes along the way. Spoken by a true Forest Hills lifer who suffers from shopping boredom more so than the average neighborhood dweller, we have really nothing, not even a few places to engage in the Latino food culture. The first and most obvious of the sights and sounds inside Girasol was the clean crisp music coming from the BOSE cubes mounted high upon the wall, lightly, suggestively playing their jingles. The typical scenario tends to be blaring, over woofed under performing 1997 Aiwa mini systems that sound like those pimped out Maximas on Esatern Parkway Yuck! Its about fidelity folks. On to the food: Typical Spanish breakfast isn’t very large, unless your an under-stimulated American with a voracious appetite, then its game on and Hold the Oatmeal. Empanadas: Sinking my teeth into the soft pastry shell, a flavorful filling of beef and chicken sat just inside anxiously awaiting contact with my taste buds, no pork nor vegan available. Chorizo: Spiced to perfection, the large link was such a yummy and versatile sausage, delicious with any order as a side. Three small red potatoes come with, as opposed to one large one, definitely my preference. Great behind the counter work, smiling, engaging, funny and very interested in me and my needs, next level attentive. The Spanish proverb«The belly rules the mind» sums up Girasol as my mind was clearly hijacked by deliciousness.
