The food here is usually fantastic. However, I find the portions to be rather skimpy; especially the lunch specials. Their Cuban is pretty good, but the smallest I’ve ever seen. Not worth eight bucks. If they gave larger portions, or lowered their prices, I would eat here more regularly and not only when in a pinch.

The place is very cheerful, friendly and clean. However, the food was over salted and over cooked. The chicken was very dried out and stringy. The flan for desert was overly thick and lacked the caramel sauce. I was rather disappointed.

I stick to what I like lol… the pernil is outstanding! My usual is pernil, white rice, and sweet plantains. My boyfriend frequently gets the rotisserie chicken and the avacado salad. Delicious!

Amazing! Hands down one of the best Puerto Rican spots around. If they could start making surullos too then I’ll be an even happier camper! If you’re in the Jefferson Valley area — you must go!

I’m very surprised by the three star rating of this amazing place! I’ve only gotten taken but everytime I’m there, I see people dining in and the take out portions seem much larger. I always order the same thing: ¼ rotisserie chicken, rice and gandules and tostones. The tostones and mojo are ONPOINT! I always ask for extra sauce because one little container does not cover the huge portion of 15 – 18 tostones. And this is just a side! The rice and gandules is totally delicious too. Perfectly spiced and never dry. The give you a container that is easily three portions. I ALWAYS have leftovers for the next day’s lunch. The ¼ chicken is white meat rotisserie chicken. Usually pretty moist, but definitely dry sometimes. I usually just have bbq sauce handy. And I never reheat it because it really dries out. For $ 8 I have an amazing, flavorful, hot dinner with enough left over for lunch! Can’t beat $ 4 per meal!

i hate to say this, because i have always liked this place, but last Thursday, i had a grapefruit for breakfast, and salsa for lunch. i ate nothing else all day, and at 7pm, started to experience symptoms of e. coli poisoning. through the night it became much, much worse. took me two days to recover. it’s a shame, too, because i have always liked this place. seems that someone did not wash their hands, unfortunately. i can’t imagine going back, as the PTSD makes it difficult for me to even think of this place. SO, salsa people, step up the hygiene control.

I’ve ordered takeout from here a number of times… Always get the beef empanadas and sweet plantains. Tonight I tried their 2 sauces… A spicy ketchup and a garlic butter. I didn’t care for either but the garlic butter was better than the ketchup IMO. The staff is always very nice and friendly. I will def come back.

Wow a an authentic Puerto Rican spot near shrub oak! It does not disappoint the potato salad the arroz con pollo the pastelone the beans the boneless pork chunks all felt like grandmas food and that’s hard to do especially for a takeout The place is small and you can eat there but I prefer to order and pick up being its so close to home Loyal customer and trying not to Go there every week :) but it’s great every time I go there

Great Latin(PR) food. The empanadas could be stuffed more but the flavor is excellent. Portions are generous. Limited menu but they have specials. We have tried ½ the menu and all was good. The great stuff is the Arroz con pollo, empanadas, perniel, Arroz gondulas, the mojito sauce for the tostonos. Prices are very reasonable.

How is this place getting negative reviews? I live in Yonkers– and trust me, we have a lot of great Latin food in my area… but when visiting the Mahopac/Jefferson Valley area, Salsa can’t be beat for excellent Latin cuisine! The pork is delicious and the tostones are on point. Not to mention the owner is super friendly and their Groupon is an EXCELLENT deal– if you can get it!

I’ve given this place plenty of times to make up for their food. Each and every time I have been disappointed. The food is DRY, SALTY, and taste OLD! These type of places around here do well because there isn’t a great alternative, but there is far better out there. I won’t spent the money on dry, salty, old tasking food again. Good luck!

Good take out option when you want something different. Candied yams were delish. Roast pork was extremely tender. Arroz con pollo was too salty but everything else was delicious.

Bought a deal on Groupon for this place. Tried their sirloin steak with onions, pernil with sweet plantains, white rice, pink beans, and fried yuca. Everything was delicious except for the steak which was a little dry, bland and rubbery. The pernil was moist and tender and had good flavor. Staff was friendly and provided great service. I would definitely go back for the pernil and fried yuca. Fried yuca was prepared perfectly. Yummy! I also want to try their flan next time I go back.

This is the first«Latin(o) Eatery» I have found around my house, and while it isn’t the best, it is not terrible either. I’ve had the rice with black beans, and the pernil. The pernil is not really what I’m accustomed to, it seems more like shredded pork,(while they might be similiar, it is absolutely not the same). However, the black beans, are really good! While it doesn’t have the actual pieces of smoked ham, it does have the taste, and this is how my grandmother makes them, so it reminds me of her. The prices seem($ 4.00 for a small order of beans, $ 8.00 for a pound of pernil) a little too expensive for the place though, but they are the only one in the area so I guess they are able to get away with it for now. I look forward to coming back and trying something else.

Salsa is awesome! My aunt recommended this place to me because I’ve been begging her to make pasteles, which happens to be the most time-consuming thing in the world. As soon as I got in the door, I wanted to dance! The music is so good. So, as with any family gathering, we ordered in abundance. OMFG, the pasteles. You could taste how good the plantains used were.(I can also attest to this by trying some of the fried plantains we ordered.) The arroz con pollo looked amazing — all of the chicken was white meat. I did try the rice and it was phenomenal with all of the spices, little pieces of chorizo, and beans in it. The empanadas were really oily. There was some special where if you buy two empanadas, you get a free soda. The stuffed peppers with rice, beef, beans, and beef were good, but the cheese was the really orange, kind of cheap type. One stuffed pepper is like a meal in and of itself. They have flan for dessert but it’s not made with horchata… thumbs down! Too bad Salsa doesn’t have its liquor license yet. The girls working there aren’t very friendly, but the food makes up for it. They only take Visa and Mastercard.
