Banyan Cafe

If you live hash browns you will love this place. I didn’t know you could stuff a hash brown and this is the epitome of comfort food. I ordered delivery and it arrived in like 20 minutes. I will definitely be ordering again!

This place is awesome and the owners are so nice. I’ve tried a bunch of things on the menu and everything is good!

First the coffee here is crack. I don’t think I remember the last time I enjoyed iced black coffee as much as I did today… jeez it was so good. It’s 9pm and I’m craving it. AND IM NOT EVEN A COFFEE DRINKER LIKE THAT!
I got the Avo salad with chicken– dressing was awesome. good amount of fresh avo (not brown and old). The chicken was a bit rubbery. which is why they lost a star for me.
Service was great. the cashier was really patient and answered all my annoying questions without giving me any attitude.
A lot of regulars here, the cashier knew them by first name and knew exactly what they were ordering. Everyone that ordered got the bahnmi. So I will definitely have to try that next time.

Cute little café. The staff was really nice. The food was delicious and didn’t take long at all to come out. They had some tables outside for outdoor seating for when it’s nice out.

Really great spot to get a quick bite before work or during lunch. The chef made arroz con pollo one Wednesday and it was awesome. The ginger peach tea that they serve is also really good! I love local spots like this one. Give it a try!

Stumbled upon this place after a little Unilocal searching bc the wait at Brownstone Diner was too long. (I will soon experience you pancake burrito!) We went on a short stroll on a brisk Saturday and ordered a Bahn mi and balsamic chicken sandwich. The boy got a smoothie and I ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee. Both delicious. We decided to eat outside and whilst waiting for our sandwiches, one of the owners gave us a complimentary dish of empanadas! He told us they’re going to start serving a variety of empanadas along with serving dinner. Apart from the delicious food, the owner/​staff were beyond nice which make a dining experience worth coming back to, which we will be doing very shortly especially to check out the dinner menu!

This is my new favorite place to eat. The staff is really friendly and welcoming, and the food is DELICIOUS. They are in the process of redecorating but you get a peaceful, down-​home vibe when you walk in. The team here really takes pride in their food and service. You can stop here for anything from a quick coffee to a laid-​back weekend lunch. The menu includes a diverse array of snacks, breakfast items, international sandwiches, and fruit smoothies. Everything is made with fresh ingredients and great flavor. The Cuban Sandwich and the Banh Mi with Pulled Pork are the best I’ve had anywhere! Looking forward to lunch here again.

Nice little one stop café for smoothies, sandwiches, coffee and free wifi. I needed a place to make a pitstop for some quick pre-​meeting work as well as grab some food. Was pleasantly surprised to by what I found. The menu is flexible and interesting. They have all the standards but they’re not afraid to try novel items. The coffee was great. Maybe not Mod or Warehouse Coffee level but Banyan Café has much more space, more food and options.
Also helps that the owners and people behind the counter are super nice. Great little find.

Deff a place to go for a good sandwich for lunch or some breakfast with some good coffee. The owner here is extremely nice and welcoming. I had the roasted chicken sandwich with cheddar cheese and the bread was really fresh and the coffee was amazing, i was glad they had raw sugar. Ill deff be coming back to try out their smoothies.

The Banh Mi sandwich with the pulled pork is the best. The flavor of the meat, the sauce, the bread, everything is top shelf. The only place in downtown JC, that sells it. I get it atleast 3 times a week and the price is excellent. You can’t get this sandwich anywhere for 7 bucks like at this place. KUDOS

This place is amazingly delicious. Staff is absolutely friendly and inviting. This was my first time here but it felt like I’ve known them forever. Very family oriented. I ordered the Banh MI sandwich and it was just perfect. Everything was fresh and just right. I totally recommend this place and I will definitely return.
Wait…the only thing I would change is the décor.

The flavors, the vibe, the staff… I’m digging everything about Banyan Café.
It’s got a dope store front with a bench on the outside, real welcoming vibe. You walk in and there’s a couple tables to grab if you want to eat there or you can take it to go.
I ordered the Bahn Mi and Cuban sandwiches. Met Angel, he was cutting up and packing my order, told me he’s been here for almost 2 years. How TF have I not known? I didn’t know how big it was going to be so I ordered two, btw. I’m a big guy with a big appetite and one was plenty
It’s delicious, inexpensive, and easy to get to. This is a spot, if you haven’t tried, you need to. Downtown JC needs more restaurants like this.
The Bahn Mi came with pulled pork. Every ingredient in the recipe was super fresh/​tasty, the marinade was amazing, and the tender meat got better with every bite.
I was blown that this sandwich existed in my neighborhood.
The Cuban, honestly, same thing. All the ingredients popped and then you taste the bread…
Bread doesn’t get enough credit, but Angel knows what’s going on. The quality of the bread was the nail in the coffin for me.
BEST SANDWICH PLACE IN THE AREA.
If I was the owner of Taqueria I’d be figuring out how to enhance the torta. If more people found out about Banyan I’d never be able to sell another torta again.

This was my 2^nd time at Banyan Café in 2 days. The staff is extremely friendly and even asked how the quality of my food was from the previous day. I ordered the Pork Bahn Mi and it was delicious.
Today I ordered a Cuban sandwich and it not disappoint. I am very impressed with the dedication the staff has to getting your order correct and making sure everything was high quality.

All of this (plus a bottled water) for $ 20 — Ahmaaazing.
The Bahn Mi was a deliciously spicy sandwich that had the right meat to bread ratio (aka, hella meaty).
The salad was a solid salad with tasty chicken!
Coffee was onnnn pooooint.
Cookie: standard delicious cookie — nothing special but still good :)
All in all — go there. You won’t regret it.

Good brunch or lunch for the low!
This place does your breakfast and lunch foods with fresh ingredients. From your standard sandwiches and breakfast items to Asian banh mi sandwiches Banyan does it all so well! The service is also very nice and quick! I loved the Banh Mi sandwich and the salad they had. Also be sure to try a cookie since it’s equally as good as the food (love my sweets)!
If you’re looking for a nice bite, light on your stomach as well as on your wallet go to Banyan!

Looking for a quick, inexpensive and healthy lunch? Banyan is whats up. They’ve got plenty of sandwich, wrap, salad and smoothie options and everything is reasonably priced. Although Jersey City is lacking in the fast casual lunch department, it’s small and independently owned spots like this that make up for it.
I wouldn’t suggest eating inside because there isn’t much seating and it’s a bit stuffy. On a beautiful day, it’s a great excuse to take your lunch to go and sit out and enjoy in Van Worst park. Their banh mi and cuban both sounded delicious, but because I wanted something a little bit lighter and more refreshing I went with a chicken caesar wrap. The wrap was huge and I ended up making two meals out of it. My lunch companion went with a banh mi. It had a ton of pork and a really good spicy sauce and he loved it. His only complaint was that it wasn’t typical bread for a banh mi and was a bit too soft.
My wrap was 5.50 and his sandwich was 6.50, which you pretty much can’t beat. Judging by their other reviews, it seems like most feel the same way!

Any neighborhood would be lucky to have a place like Banyan Café. First of all, the friendliness from the owners and staff is incomparable to any place I know. Next, the selection for this cozy 4 table petite café is extensive. In the mood for a breakfast egg sandwich or croissant? They have it. Want a lunch salad, a smoothie, Banh Mi, meatballs, sausage and peppers? They have it. Just a cup of coffee and a few cookies? They have it. And not only do they have the selection, but they make the effort to prepare everything top notch at a reasonable price. All sandwiches are made to order, even if they have to fry up the sausage and peppers on a hot plate for you. The bread is always fresh. I could go on and on. Banyan is a great place and I’m a new regular.

A solid deli style café a block off Grove St. I’ve been eyeing their banh mi for awhile now, so when asked where to lunch, I knew I needed to check it off the list. Seating is limited and the «café» is really a glorified deli with some tables. It’s still got character and service was so nice, but definitely a very casual spot.
So, get to the point Steph… why go here? Sandwiches are cheap as hell! When I thought that Jersey City was turning into a city for those who can only afford it, this spot is the complete opposite. Portions aren’t huge, says the fattie American, but perfect for lunch and at a really great price. My lunchmate and I went with the pork and chicken banh mi’s and split them. Great flavor, chewy bread and lots of fresh veggies we know and love in a banh mi with slightly over cooked, but full of flavor meat. Far from authentic, but a solid option.
I noticed some reasonably priced smoothies, salads and treats making this a win!
