Just came here to order food. Food isn’t bad but the customer service absolutely sucks. Esp that one chick that was mentioned a few comments below. I agree, she sucks and needs to go !

I’m writing this review based off of a combination of the food quality and the customer service. I have only ordered during lunch time since it’s close to my job. It’s been quite some time since I’ve ordered here for the same reason I’m writing this review. The food is average at best, nothing spectacular much like the other offerings in the area. The main concern is the horrendous customer service. Every time I’ve come here, the staff has been either rude or indifferent. What happened today is that a small group of us ordered for delivery and an entrée was completely missing. We called to inquire and the most disrespectful employee essentially said that we were lying and refused to either reimburse us, or send a new order and hung up. The owner eventually called apologizing about 10 minutes later but the damage had already been done. I nor my coworkers are ever coming here again. It’s not worth the disrespect and there are too many other restaurants in the area to deal with it.

I have two Latin restaurants within walking distance from my house but the food here is worth driving for in my opinion. Great selection, tasty food and decent prices. My fav is the Pollo Guisado w/Moro rice. They have a little more variety than the typical Latin restaurants in JC(or at least more than the ones I’ve been to) Place is has plenty of seating if you want to dine in and portions are pretty big so you’ll probably have leftovers to go. I took off one star though because as previous reviews have stated, some of the women who work here have nasty attitudes. I really wanted to take off two stars for that but the food is good. They also tend to get annoyed if you ask questions(i.e. asking what a certain dish is) and try to rush you through(even if there’s no one waiting)

OK, I recently and reluctantly ate here again only because I was really hungry and it’s the only restaurant 1 minute from my house that serves baked chicken ½’s. My new favorite place to get a whole rotisserie chicken for only $ 9 is a 4 min. walk away to Gusto’s on Bergen Ave. between capital one bank and the post office. I still haven’t ordered the oxtails from here since my last post because even though they did it twice before, they still refuse to let me order only ox tails only, however, any other stews they will sell you no questions asked. So I had the stew chicken, stew goat and black beans. It was okay a little better. The beans I could have done without. I’ll be going back to Gusto’s tomorrow for their Ox tails. On a more positive note, I did notice that one girls attitude has changed a bit, she seems a little more positive and friendly. Good for her but better for us because there is nothing worse than being served by someone with negative energy. Hopefully it last! We’ll see… to be continued.

The food isn’t bad at all but the so-called waitress behind the counter has a serious attitude problem & I’m talking about the young tall one with the 5 pounds of cake batter on her face who thinks she’s Latin America’s Next Top Model. Seriously just her attitude & non-welcoming presence is enough not too even want to go here & I’m not the only one from my job(which is right down the street) who has said this. It’s sad because this place definitely has 5 star potential. 4.5 for the food &1 for the service.

Great food and very reasonably priced. HOWEVER, the attitude of the women who work here is terrible and quite disgusting. They never hand me my change in my hand, mind you there’s other people around the counter and anyone can grab my change before I reach it. Secondly, one afternoon, one of the women’s friend clearly came in after me and she took his order before me. Very rude!!!

The food is ok but the service is nasty, those girls have the nastiest attitude and faces. I NEVER order from there unless it’s a desperate«im starving«situation. The foods not nasty but not all that good but like I said the girls !!(can’t even say women because women don’t act like that) but yea the girls are rude they need new workers

OK, first there is not a lot of variety in Jersey City, the food here is yummy but the people who serve your food are SORUDE(Young girl with red hair and an older lady who always wears blue eyeshadow!) I am not even sure why they are upset but they are. I go here when I have no other options and I am starving or I just don’t feel like cooking and even then I am looking for another option on the way(because 3 of the 5 ladies are rude). But if you want some good food, you can not go wrong here unless you get the ribs. If you get the ribs you will be sorry. They look good but they have no taste. Any and everything else is really good! Especially the empanadas! =)

Delicious food. Really inexpensive. $ 5.00 for meat rice and beans. Dominican greasy spoon style. The 2 stars are for the food. The servers are nasty though. Especially this one woman who is javao. Skinny. Young. Very very nasty and comes off a bit racist. Other servers are hit ot miss. Sometiems sugar and sometimes shit. But it’s cheap and delicious.

Came in for dinner to go. The food seemed to have been sitting out for a while. The plantain was chewy/rubbery. The stewed chicken wasn’t bad. It’s very cheap and there isn’t much food to get in this neighborhood. So three stars.

Ordered with coworkers. Delivery time was good. Got the special of chicken and black rice. Listen for $ 5 I enjoyed my large meal. I have had better Moro though… But this was decent. Chicken was good too. Ummm… I’m not going to say tasteless but the taste was mild. Like I said… Well worth my $ 5. Will eat here again.

Pretty standard Dominican food. Nothing to write home about. Service is great but most of the workers except for one. Anyone that dines here, knows«that one female» that’s absolutely rude all the time looks like she hates her life and her job. Walking in and seeingher def makes you rethink ordering from there and just walking out, which I have done. Best time to eat here is definitely before dinner. I usually order the baked chicken or BBQ chicken. And I don’t order it for dinner, as by dinner the chicken is pretty dry since its been out all day. Definitely had better black beans. Definitely I’ve had better empanadas. This place is pretty mediocre, however the lunch specials are decent.

I can’t tell if I’ve been rip off or that my expectation was very high. But man, was I disappointed with the meal I got. Where is this big portion everyone was talking about. The only big portion was the rice. I got the churrasco, which came with rice and beans. Not knowing what it is, I relied on google images to let know what it was. But man, the meat I got looks nothing like the google images that I desperately wanted to eat. I was not a happy girl. However the food was good, not great, but good. But definitely not worth the $ 16 I paid for the churrasco! Here’s my advice for any new person trying out this place. Get the special! The food that are prepared and on display for you choose from looked and smell better than the food I ordered on the menu. I plan to go back, but only getting the special. Literally picking out the meat that I actually want to eat.

I don’t get this place. Every time I come here, I get attitude — it honestly can’t be that everyone is having a bad day every time I come. Come on guys — just treat everyone the same way with the same niceness and we can all be friends. The service here really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Oh, you’re annoyed that I’m giving you business? My bad. The food here is mediocre at best. I’ve tried a good amount of their stuff ranging from shakes to food to sweet plantains. The only thing I can say that is really good here is their stewed chicken, which is super moist and delicious. Their sweet plantains are good on certain days too. Otherwise, the pernil is tasteless and depending on the day, is dry. And then there are other random food items that I just point and eat, but nothing that is worth mentioning unless we’re just mentioning bad things. Yes, they serve large portions, but it doesn’t change the fact that the ladies are NOT nice.

Across the street from the National Guard Armory, I paid $ 3 for a LARGE plate of rice and beans. I would give it 5 stars for the quantity, but when I make rice and beans at home, I can barely finish, so why was I hungry after this meal? I think the food has the nutrition boiled out of it(but many even expensive restaurants do the same). Also, this place is not very clean. But I would say the ambiance is very typical for this neighborhood.

Quick take-out the other day: pernil, rice, and beans. Pleasantly surprised it was only 5 bucks, and it must’ve weighed 5 pounds. Took it home, and went buck wild. Food was good, and of course, I had leftovers — which I used to make breakfast burritos the next morning, Best $ 5 I’ve spent, and I shall return.

FINALLY, FINALLY there is a gem in Jersey City. The Coconut Latin restaurant has great food. I’ve ordered from this restaurant 3 times before writing this review. All 3 times the food has been wonderful. Thank you Unilocal for helping find this gem. The prices a great. The amount of food is ridiculous… prepare yourself to share or be a Fatty McGee. I’ve ordered Empanandas, oxtails, curry chicken, jerk chicken, stew chicken, rice and beans.(not just for me, lol) The food has been made with love. The only con is that they take 30 minutes to deliver your food but once I made it to the restaurant I can see why. THEYAREPACKED. I know other reviews said no one speaks English but I was there on Sunday and my waitress spoke English. My significant other now feels comfortable ordering as he doesn’t speak Spanish. The place takes cash and credit card. Oh BTW there drinks are great. I had a passion fruit drink while my boo had a apple/carrot shake, which he loved. Please give this place a try, IT’S GREAT!!!

You can order at the counter and then grab a seat if you’re in a hurry. Most dishes are around $ 5 or $ 6. You can get spanish soup«Sancocho» on weekend and it’s deliscious. I’m there every weekend to pick up soup in the winter time. Pair with yummy sweet plaintains and it’s a yummy deliscious dinner! I’m not crazy about their smoothies, they are really sweet and made with tooo much milk. They need more fruit in it. Also I think some of their meet dishes are a bit overly saltly sometimes. I guess it depends who’s cooking in the back. They could definitely take it down a notch, but over I prefer this place over the other spanish restos down west side ave.

I have been to this spot quite a few times. There food is pretty good and reasonably priced. I like there rice and beans with the«platanos maduros» and the chicken stew is not bad either. Very good spot to go to for lunch and plus they have cheap lunch specials
