The lobster roll was on par with ones of tasted in cape cod(which are STELLAR). The crab fries are slammin. Saw others eating various different lobster meals that looked equally delicious — you know what that means? A return trip is needed, and sooner rather than later! Also have to mention: friendly service in a relaxed environment. BYOB — cheers!

Good food but the setup is gimmicky. I like the whole faux approach, but there wad just something about the execution that troubled me. The food is good, the prices are quite reasonable. Service is fine.

Such a fun place! Came here with a party of 9 and ordered just about everything on the menu, all smothered in just beclaws sauce– a perfect mix of oil, garlic, spice, and other unidentifiable notes of delicious flavor. Crab fries are a must– crispy and perfect with a ton of crab– as was the snow crab, clams, shrimp and crawfish. Also enjoyed the fact that it was BYOB.

Heard of Just Beclaws for a while and finally made my way to the restaurant. Place was quiet since it was a Tuesday night and right after snowstorm Jonas so service was great since all attention was on us. Ordered a pound of shrimp($ 13) and mussels($ 12) with the signature sauce(medium). It was spicy and just how I like it. Portions were big and very flavorful. My son had calamari and it was really tasty as well. Also had the oyster special($ 1 each on Tues). You can add sides to the seafood bag like egg noodles, sausage, corn etc. I added egg noodles to the shrimp and it was quite good. Overall I was really pleased!!! For all that including drinks, spent $ 65(not including tip). Reasonable price and friendly staff. I will be coming back!

Not sure if there are too many seafood boil locations in the Jersey City area so my girlfriend and I decided to check out this place on a Saturday. Very open space and it’s a good place to get messy. We ordered an order of the crab fries, which were bomb, and a pound of shrimp, lobster and crabs, with a side of steamed rice. We ordered with the Just Beclaws sauce and it was great. Really good flavor, and not too spicy, so we asked for some extra spicy sauce on the side. I would highly recommend this place.

Calling all seafood lovers! If you love your fish and don’t mind to get your hands dirty, Just BeClaws is your spot. This is a great addition to JC and in a great location. The décor overall is adorable and I love the funny little signs they have displayed throughout. I started off with the crab fries as an appetizer($ 12). They were pretty good. The crab meat on top was very fresh and enjoyable and the fries had a nice golden color with the perfect amount of crunch. I did think they could use a little something extra something, maybe sauce? But overall they were good and I would tell anyone that enjoys crab to give it a try. I did a pound of shrimp in the Just BeClaws sauce(medium). The shrimp came served in a huge plastic bag and its your job to pick em’ out, peel em’ and eat em’. Like I said, can’t be afraid to get your hands dirty! They do give you a bib to wear, as well as gloves, although I didn’t use the gloves. For $ 5 extra you can get the shrimp peeled and next time I think I would do that. The shrimp not only had the shell on them but the entire head. That made me sad and kinda grossed out, so I looked away as I was peeling them :(I got my shrimp with a side of corn on the cob and it was so good, especially since it had the Just BeClaws sauce on it.(That sauce is delicious!) Next time I would definitely up it to hot, the medium didn’t have enough kick for me. Just Beclaws is definitely VERY pricey. Most of their items carry a big price tag, so be prepare to splurge. It is BYOB though and I think that’s great since the menu is so pricey. Being BYOB allows customers to have more wiggle room and spend more money on the food. I know Just BeClaws is in the process of trying to retain a liquor license but I really, really hope they don’t. Being BYOB is such a HUGE plus to this establishment, adding in a bar would probably deter me from coming back frequently, it would just be way too expensive. The service was very, very good. Our waiter was Van and he was super knowledgably about the menu and answered all my annoying questions. I can’t wait to come back when crawfish is in season, my dad loves crawfish and would definitely enjoy this spot. I’m hoping by that time it’s still BYOB too! :)

Great place. It’s my first time coming to a boil & it definitely exceeded my expectations. Both the service and food was great, plus it’s a good place to come & watch football. The only thing I wish they had was a bar, but it IS byob! If you love fresh seafood & you don’t mind getting your hands a little dirty, check this place out. I would pretty much recommend everything that’s on the menu. Here’s a little input on the food that we tried: the crab fries: are a must. Theyre perfectly crispy and not all soggy from the oil. It’s seasoned and loaded with crab meat on top. I’m drooling just thinking about these fries. The lobster roll: you definitely get your moneys worth for this roll. They give you a ton of lobster meat on a pretty short roll. Less carbs + more seafood meat… so worth it. It’s honestly the best lobster roll I’ve ever tried. We also ordered snow crabs, lobster, and shrimp in a bag. We ordered this with the recommended JustbeClaws sauce. It’s garlicky and buttery. Also you can order this mild, medium, or hot. We ordered the medium but it wasn’t spicy at all. They also have cute & witty quotes hanging on the walls. I can’t rate this place any less than 5 stars.

The food here is quite good, but it isn’t cheap. I paid $ 25 for a shrimp boil with a few add-ins. For what is basically fast-food(or at least fast casual) that’s a handful. Boil was good, BeClaws sauce fantastic. It should be noted that the shrimp are full — head-on, unpeeled, and not deveined. To me that’s a royal pain in the butt, however that’s just my personal preference and I know it’s an aesthetic choice. On a prior visit I had the shrimp po’boy and it was good though the proportion of bread was overpowering. I’d hollow out some of the bread. Would go back to try the crab fries which got such rave reviews.

Food, Service and Ambiance was great! After reading the Unilocal reviews, I HAD to try this place and so happy I did. My girlfriends couldn’t stop thanking me for bringing them here. We had raw oysters… demolished them! The CRABFRIES… AMAZING…GETEM!!! ONETHING I REGRET… was not getting my own bag of shrimp with the beclaws sauce and egg noodles… so freaking finger looking delicious! And they have white rice!!! Banana pudding was yummy too… I wanted another one. Van was a great server… gave us suggestions… and just very friendly! I will definitely be back and ordering my own bag!!! Tip…not on the menu… they have Vietnamese coffee

I have been here twice and the food is amazing. Cool space with a nautical hipster vibe. I’m not going into the menu as a ton of other reviews go into detail with it. Overall, you buy per pound a selection of crabs at market price. The Snow Crabs runs around $ 18 while the King Crabs around $ 35. The King is totally worth it. Meatier and a lot more hearty. Different selection of spices and butters to go with it. Everything is served on a big steam bag. Tear in and have a ball… They give you a bib and crappy gloves. Bib useful but the gloves are pointless. Crab fries are good. Mussels were ok; nothing special. Service was good. Our waitress the last time was a bit more focused on her iPhone than the customers. Wife and I watched other waiters customers getting their food even though we ordered before they came in. Whatever… We will be going back. Have Fun

Here’s what you need to do — Get a baby sitter so you can free up both of your hands, stick them in the plastic gloves supplied to you and literally dig in. And don’t wear anything you care too much about, those plastic bibs may only go so far. I’m glad that hubby can’t be bothered with having to bust open shells before getting to the meat(so he ordered the crab fries and crab cakes), that it allowed me to do just that while he tended to our baby’s needs. I love that there are so many sauce(but just get the«Just Be Claws» sauce, because it is awesome!) and sea food options(crawfish, lobster, blue/snow/king/dungeness crabs, shrimp, clams, mussels) on the menu to choose from, and how the server took his time to explain everything and let us know which option was the best bang(most meat) for buck.

Wow, the freshness of the food is just amazing! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday dinner and I thoroughly enjoyed it. For the appetizer, we ordered crab fries. I heard amazing things about it so we had to get them. And it exceeded my expectations! The crab tasted very fresh and there was plenty of it on the fries. The seasoning on the crab and the perfectly crunchy fries were delicious! Oh and there’s just a slight drizzle of mayo to hold it all together. YUM. For main entrees, I ordered the lobster roll and my boyfriend ordered the crab cake sandwich. The lobster roll was much smaller than I expected, but it was very good, especially with the cajun sauce. It was pretty much melted spicy butter. I poured that bad boy all over my lobster roll and it was heavenly. Though the sandwich looked small, they gave a ton of lobster. Oh and save some of that cajun sauce for the crab fries. It just makes the crab fries even more amazing! My boyfriend really enjoyed his crab cake sandwich. Size is a little larger than my lobster roll. He said it was very flavorful. What really got to me was the freshness of the food. I’m very impressed and I’ll definitely be back soon!

Ohh man this place has been such a welcome addition to JC downtown. JC badly needed a seafood place like Just Be Claws and they definitely live Upto hype. We have come here multiple times since our first visit. The service and food has been consistently good. Coming to food we have tried almost everything on the menu. I would though say stick to regular fare(seafood) in bag as there are other better places to enjoy those appetizers. My personal favorite is shrimp goodie bag with Just Be Claws sauce, crawfish and crab are good as well but they demand a lot of work :). They have kept prices as very competitive and reasonable. Tip– If getting wings with BBQ sauce don’t eat them before seafood as it would forbid you from enjoying the yummy Just Be Claws sauce taste.

#gonow #shrimpinthebagrocks #getthecajunsauce Just BeClaws has been on my Unilocal bucket list for a while now and so much so, that I was worried after the hype, we would be disappointed. Far from it. This is such a great place for sea food lovers. And one that was much needed in Jersey City. What we got: 1 pound of Shrimp in Cajun sauce 1 pound of Dungenese crab in the beclaws special sauce(hot, as they had run out of the medium) 1 side of Crab fries 1 side of white rice 1 side of corn on the cob How it was: Everything was outstanding. The shrimp especially was lipsmackingly good; juicy, fresh and the Cajun sauce was spicy, buttery, smooth and fiery — all at the same time! The ultimate combination. I could go on describing it and I could definitely go on eating it! The crab was succulent, luscious and absolutely delicious. I liked the beclaws special sauce, but I didn’t love it. I thought the ‘hot’ version was a little too fiery and drowned the taste of the crab a bit — I would stick to the medium next time. I also wanted it to be a little more ‘lemony’ and felt it lacked the zingy aftertaste. The crab fries — why are they not listed on the menu??! However, thanks to Unilocalers, we discovered it and they were SO good! Creamy + crunchy = #can’tstopeatingthem! Rice and corn — what’s not to love?! ;) What else you need to know: Yes, it’s a messy affair. But don’t be squeamish — put on your bib, gloves and dig in. The service was spot on The above was more than enough for 3 people. The total came to $ 73 + tip. BeClaws if you’re reading this — please don’t raise your prices! xoxo

4.5 stars rounded up. Just BeClaws is a welcome and much needed semi-new seafood restaurant in Jersey City. There was a 30 minute wait for a party of two on a Saturday evening(with amazing weather, if that matters). They luckily take your phone number and ring you when your table is ready — thank goodness for that so you don’t have to stay in the restaurant and smell the amazing aroma of the food for 30 minutes and salivate. Our waiter was interesting. apparently it was his first day and you could totally tell, as he was literally all over the place. The prices are fairly reasonable for seafood — $ 15/lb for crawfish, clams, $ 18/lb for snow crab, $ 35/lb for more fancy crab… etc. They’ve also got shrimp po boys, chicken fingers, and other entrees. How could you come here and not get the seafood though? Definitely get the BeClaws sauce — it’s probably the best on the menu. We got ours«hot» and it was the absolute perfect level of spiciness — enough to make your lips burn, but not enough to be inedible and not enjoyable. Delicious! Very buttery and greasy, but delicious! The crawfish was fresh and were large and the clams were amazingly seasoned in the delicious sauce. The crawfish isn’t as seasoned due to the fact they’re in hard shells. We also had the crab fries($ 12) — their fries are crispy and fried just the way I like it — warm and soft on the inside and super crispy on the outside. The huge, heaping serving of crab meat on top may make the fries a little soggy, but it’s worth it. It’s topped with lemon aioli. The fried calamari was the most lackluster of the items we ordered — it wasn’t hot enough and just didn’t really have much flavor to it. Actually, the fries weren’t hot enough either. Minus .5 for the calamari and temperature of the appetizers. Other than that, delicious meal. Will be a staple when I visit JC.

Jersey city was in need of a seafood place like this! Seafood cooked in a medley of herbs and spices, yes and yes! Whatever seafood/flavor combo you pick you can’t go wrong, just know it’s on the salty side. Crab fries are a must though! Skip the sandwiches, they’re alright but can be mostly bread. Service is nice but on the slow side due to how busy they get. My only other complaint is how bloated you feel after eating here. Almost inevitable. I personally wouldn’t come here if there was a long line but with a short wait and time to spare, this place will fulfill your seafood cravings.

Waited until my 2nd visit to review and my first impression was correct: After all is said I’m a glutton. I love Crawfish, it’s just such a weird thing to eat, with that large head and crunchy shell, and when it’s done right — cooked here in Just BeClaws(Cajun, Lemon, Pepper and Garlic Butter — Hot) seasoning, it’s perfect. Crawfish is something you eat for fun, not to get full. Seafood is bought by the pound and if you get 2 lbs of anything they throw in extras such as corn on the cob and some potatoes. The King Crab legs would be next on my list although at $ 35, it won’t be a regular thing, maybe to share with some other dishes. The biggest non-«secret» is the crab fries. Not on the menu but everyone knows. Shredded Crabmeat on top of crispy fries and some cheese based sauce. Sinful. A nice touch, there are 2 sinks just outside the restrooms to get cleaned up, and let me say this: If you don’t get messy enough with your food that you need to wash a couple of times, you’re not doing it right. Still BYO, hence the 5 stars. Service is adequately friendly and efficient, but you really didn’t come here for the service. Definitely the best addition to Chilltown this year.

I am so happy to have a seafood restaurant in town that serves fresh fish and crabs. Of course everything is a little pricey in the way that everything is in the new restaurants coming up around the Newark A rune corridor. At $ 35MP for a pound of crab, not sure how many local working or service class folks will eat there but if you can afford it, you won’t be dissatisfied. The restaurant is boat-themed with very simple décor and low cost paper plates, plastic utensils and paper cups for cold drinks. The eatery is new so they are still working out systems especially for service which was ok and I think will be much better over time. The food was amazing!!! I had the French fries with the crab and garlic mayo topping. It was so good– best $ 12 I spent in a long time. The lump crab had delectable spices including a clever use of lemon zest that just blew your palette wide open– I would order this time and time again. I also ordered littleneck clams with Cajun spices and garlic which arrived in a plastic bag and with a bucket. It was messy to navigate and I felt concern about my fingers being stained orange. Minutes later amy server brought me a bib, gloves and a paper bowl where she transferred the clams into that made for an easier dining experience. I know they will work their service choreography out and when they do they will truly earn a 5th star. The clams were out of this world good!!! Worth every penny. I will definitely be returning and I will eventually sample everything on the menu. I begged the owner to figure out a way to get BLUECLAW crabs — as they are my favorite crabs. He was so nice to talk with. I wish them every success!!!

One star for the«I got crabs in Jersey City» sign at the entrance. One star for the yummy Cajun fries. One star for my yummy sweet crawfish boil smothered in the Just BeClaws special sauce. One star for BYOB. I’ve been looking forward to this place opening up for a while now, and I was not disappointed after my first visit. We did a pound of shrimp in medium spicy Cajun seasoning and a pound of crawfish in the Just Beclaws special sauce, which was both of our favorite sauce. I was a little unsure of how much food to order, but after ordering fries to share and a pound per person of seafood we were both full. If you are really into spicy, I’d go with the hot level of spice as I didn’t find medium to be spicy at all. Service was friendly and I can’t wait to go back to get my Po’ Boy on.
