Stop #1 on my Tri-State BBQ adventure led me here to A&W pit beef to grab a quick lunch in between classes. Driving down the 175 it sneaks up on you, but if your there at lunch time just look for the line of people standing in front of the white trailer-like food truck. Those people are not there for the paint job, you have just stumbled onto one of the best little BBQ stands in the area. Located in a gravel parking lot, it’s pretty much just park where you can find a spot. That almost goes for seating as well. They have two picnic benches that I’m guessing fill up pretty fast on a warm summer day. With it being pretty cold right now though, I wouldn’t venture to say many people will be «dining in» here. As you walk up to the window your greeted by the owner and a nice young lady’s pretty smile eager to take your order and answer any questions about there menu to the best of their ability. Now to the best part, the food. I asked them what they had that was the best. He said the pulled pork. I went for it. A unique BBQ sauce smothering juicy pulled pork and placed on a warm toasted Hoagie roll. Mm-mm. I think next time I go though, I ask for them to go a little lite on the sauce because the flavor of the pork was awesome, but got punked out by their sauce. On the side I received their hand cut fries. To be completely honest they were a little soggy and could have been cooked a little longer but the taste still came home for me. Just work on the texture guys and they will be 5 star. I also got a side of baked beans which I inquired about and found out they are Bush’s baked beans Original version and they heat them in a Microwave. I would maybe like to seem them go for some originality in there beans and maybe add some honey, brown sugar or BBQ sauce in them, but that’s just me. They were nothing to complain about, but I think they could add some flavor and get a huge response. The drink. Here’s where I was a little disappointed being a southern gent. SWEETTEA! Gotta have it. It goes so well with BBQ! :). Their setup isn’t bad though, they have a little cooler with canned sodas on the side which is practical for there grab-n-go style BBQ pit stop. I also ordered a Turkey Sandwich. Was definitely not my favorite. Granted, I added some BBQ sauce to it, but it really just didn’t blend like th pork. I think your target interest here should be the pulled pork sandwich and fries. $$$$$ I attached a picture of the menu and prices but overall it’s pretty cheap. $$$$$ You can get a full meal for around 7 – 8 bucks. Well, that’s that for stop número uno here in the Tri-State of Maryland. Nice way to start things off and I look forward to my next BBQ hit.

After watching Man vs Food showcase a Dallas BBQ place, I started craving. Like Pavlovs dog, I see pics of juicy beef brisket with perfect bark on it and I just drool. So Unilocal had this local BBQ truck listed with high ratings. Quality BBQ, outside on a glorious day — i was stoked. However, I wasted what little lunch time I had to get through heavy traffic to find the place closed at about 1PM. No idea if it was closed for this afternoon, for today or for the season as there was no information posted. Might be the greatest BBQ on earth but it is hard to tell if they are not open during their stated hours and not even the courtesy of a sign as to why they might be closed. Not sure that giving a 2 star is the way to handle this, but not sure what else to do with it right now. I will certainly update & upgrade if I ever try again. Hopefully I have been at least clear about why.

It’s a classic roadside bbq/pit-beed/hot-dog stand. Nice people. Tasty home-made chili on the chili-dogs. Great hoagy-style bread for the dog makes this a real meal! Fries are hot and fresh, ocean-city-style. You can sprinkle them with salt and vinegar, or the usual add-ons. And they have bluegrass on Friday’s starting May 11th at 7pm, with«dinner at 5pm». I guess I’ll just have to go and find out what that means ;-) Definitely a go-to roadside stand. Also, a fresh vegetable/fruit stand out back of the stand, with live plants too.

Decided to go out to lunch today but wanted something different. I turned to Unilocal and found the A&W Pit Beef Truck. It was a gorgeous day, perfect for sitting outside on a picnic bench for lunch. The A&W truck has a new owner as of April of 2012. He worked with the old owner for a while so the transition would be an easy one with no change in the quality of food or menu. The new owner, and I’m sorry I didnt get his name, was really nice and friendly. This is literally a food truck on the side of the road in front of a produce«stand». After reading the other Unilocal reviews I decided on the BBQ Beef sandwich or Pit Beef with a bit of BBQ sauce and fries. The food is all cooked to order and comes out hot and delicious. The sandwich is on a large soft roll that has trouble containing all the meat and juices. It was really good. The BBQ sauce was delicious and different from other sauces I’ve had. It is not overwhelmingly sweet and I believe has a definite strong taste of cinnamon. The fries were crisp, salted as requested and then covered in Old Bay seasoning. There is of course also ketchup and vinegar if you choose. There are only a couple of picnic tables so I would imagine at a «rush» hour you might have to sit on the ground, in your car, or take it away with you. The truck sits on land that also has a good size produce stand and a small field in the back with a small bandstand where they have live Bluegrass music every Friday night during the summer. I’ll have to go back for the music with my BBQ next time.

Found A&W on an whim driving through laurel — but i’ll be back. The big A&W special burger was delish topped with some farm tomatoes. I sampled all the sides and the coleslaw was the standout favorite. The owner is a friendly guy so don’t be surprised if he comes and chats you up. Make sure you visit the great market across the lot after lunch. The only downside is that when they run out of smoked beef, they are out for the rest of the day — so get there early. The ribs are also killer.

Don’t let the stand in the middle of a gravel parking lot fool you into driving past this gem. The pit beef sandwiches are that good. Like some of the previous reviewers suggested, I ordered a pit beef sandwich with light sauce. There was a ton of meat between the buns, and the fries were crisp and delicious. I will be making this my place to visit often, especially for lunch.

It’s not a bad place to stop for carryout lunch. The pit beef sandwiches fall more into the barbecued beef category and are my go-to item — I would go with light sauce to avoid the mess and taste the meat. The owner gave me a sample of the ribs, which are braised instead of smoked. The meat falls right off the bone; quite edible with a plastic fork. While different due to the cooking style they are nonetheless excellent. The fries are required eating in my book.

A great place to grab a quick lunch bite. A very unique BBQ flavor. The pulled pork sandwich is tasty, but my favorite is the BBQ beef sandwich. If you get the fries ask for them well done, they are hand cut and get a little mushy if not cooked long enough.

As good as pit-beef gets! And I know pit-beef! Just as good as the best locations if not better. Fantastic sauce too. Keep up the good work guys.

Pit beef just tastes better on the side of the road. All summer, Duvall’s Marketplace in Jessup sold produce on Rte 175 in Jessup, and the A&W Pit Beef trailer has offered sandwiches to eat at some outdoor tables. Don’t think the cold will chase A&W away. They plan on serving up pit beef Monday to Saturday — for lunch until about 4 pm. It’s a handmade sandwich. The owner cuts up the meat and cooks it himself. He reheats servings for each sandwich. It’s not Pioneer’s slices right off the roast, but that Woodlawn institution is one of the best sandwiches around. A&W’s is a meaty, solid sandwich, almost a BBQ-style with shredded meat. Ask for light sauce because the beef stands on its own — and stands up to the horseradish that I require on a pit beef sandwich. At this time of year, Duvall’s is shifting from vegetables to Christmas trees. So it’s a fine outing to buy your tree and get a sandwich. It’s also a great place for lunch if you’re doing errands, going to Arundel Mills Mall or driving home from the airport. Call ahead around Christmas week. The owner was talking about taking some time off around the holiday.
