We stayed at the Sun Porch. While we liked the cuteness of the décor, not having a shower head made it tricky to wash your hair and even take a shower. Sure you could soak in the tub. But when it came time to rinse off the suds, then what? Plus, the mattress was creaky and the pillows thin. Perhaps spending a few extra bucks for a better lodging would have been a wiser choice.

Note that this is not a bed & breakfast, just a bed & muffins. This hardly matters since who wouldn’t rather wander down the hill to the Julian Café for breakfast.. . That said, the Historical House is a great place to stay. With a location just off of Main Street you get the benefit of being close to the«action» without being right on the main strip with the noise of bikes or hordes of tourists making inane comments that they find insightful. We stayed in the Sunporch — a suite with a formal sitting area and bedroom. The extra space makes the room so much better than the average hotel and the period appropriate furnishings and décor create a charming atmosphere. The claw-foot tub in the bathroom is a lovely touch. The owners are delightful and promptly mailed me the camera case, memory card, and battery that I’d left behind.
