Hate crowds? Like to get away from it all? This is the place for you. Well, I don’t know what this place is like on a warm summer day, but on a cold winter day you can have it all to yourself! At least that was my experience this past weekend. I was spending the weekend nearby and, even though it was bitterly cold(about 4 degrees without the windchill), it was otherwise a beautiful sunny day and I was not going to stay cooped up inside. When I first arrived, I was afraid they were closed because I was the only one there apart from the Park Ranger and a civilian volunteer. Nope, they were open for business and I pretty much had the entire place to myself! :-) I headed over to the Necedah Wildlife Refuge. This place is beautiful. The visitor’s center is pretty new and is very well appointed(at least now I know some of my tax dollars weren’t wasted). The Refuge itself is a gem too. 44,000 acres and miles and miles of well maintained and marked trails: some through the woods, others through the«savannah» of marsh and grass. All in all, I had a great afternoon here and would love to come back and do more exploring.
