Sheik’s Restaurant

I’ve been having a loco moco craze, that’s all I want to eat when I’m out. There’s a lot of places trying to start an outrageous trend and making weird fusions, but I just want a regular loco moco. Sheik does it right.
My food didn’t seem like it was sitting out on hot plates waiting to be served, the gravy didn’t have that skin on it and the patty was soft enough to be cut with a plastic fork. It was also a nice thick patty, none of that flimsy cardboard patty that you can find in the frozen aisle. Even if it was frozen you can see the TLC that went into the food so it would still be fine with me, that plate filled me up and I love it.
Someone brought me my plate so I can’t comment on service or interior. I think even if I did I dine in, I wouldn’t care, just shut up and take your food elsewhere then. Their food is too good to complain about trivial things like that.

My family has been coming here for years so I guess you could say it’s a old family hangout lol. Sheiks is a mom n pop little hole in the wall place. Alot of people out there have their own opinions about this place but I am telling you I have never seen any of the things they accuse this place of. The staff is friendly, the decoration bare… they look like an older restaurant. .but the food is still good. I always get the Chicken Breast Steak and have never been disappointed on the amount nor the taste of it. If your expecting nice dressier class kinda place this is not the place for you. But if your up for some pretty good food go for it. Just remember to take cash with you tho as it is the only for of payment accepted.

Love the food, price and customer service! Like a hole in the wall kinda place but in their own building.

OMG, They should not be called a place to eat. As I entered, I got a faint wiff of sewage. Then I was bombarded with all these negative signs. The signs were everywhere even in the bathroom. No shoes no shirt no service. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone. And, that’s when you walk in the door. There was no smelly carpet like some people were mentioning but there was an odor. There were holes in the wall where paint had peeled off and holes in the cushions on the chairs. Bad Bad Bad!!! It was recommended by my sister who lives on Maui. She said you can’t get this on Oahu. I agree! They would be out of business in a day.

The service here was not good. We had asked for simple things like a seperater to be removed (it wasn’t throughout entire meal). Service was terrible; took over an hour after ordering to get food, and when food finally did arrive I had gotten shortchanged. I had ordered the #2 meal, which specifically said comes with 2 eggs, I only got one.

Lived on Maui for quite a few years and first time here…
Ordered Miso soup (cold rainy day) and their fried noodles. Miso soup was cloudy and waaaaay salty; I’ve never seen or tasted Miso soup like that.
Fried noodles were average but I did clean that plate — but half a spoonful of soup and I’m done.
Not going to be scrambling to get back again.

First time visiting Maui and took an early flight coming in 6am on 8÷26÷14 with a group of friends. We were looking for a place to eat breakfast and the lady from the car rental (Alamo) recommended this local restaurant 5 mins away.
Okay here’s where my 4 starts comes into place.
1. Food was great! Menu selection is just about right. I ordered the Spam friend rice with the side order portuguese linguica (Big large portions).
2. Great local hospitality.
That’s the two most important things to me when comes to dinning in. Now here’s my only concern about Sheiks.
It’s without a doubt your typical local moms and pops restaurant, but please, please, please get rid of your carpet and replace it with wood or something other than carpet.
Since most of their customers are really local, I don’t know if they just gotten used to the smell of the carpet or what not. Maybe its a ploy to turn off tourist? or perhaps this is how the locals wanting their restaurants to smell like?
Bottom line is, this place is 5 star. Just get rid of the carpet.

Cheap food but god this place is disgusting. In major need of renovation and it smells a lot like a cats litter box.

The only thing I go here for is the saimin & chopped steak. We used to eat here all the time but now every time we walk in, it smells like mold in the carpets. It needs some major work. Mashed potatoes are out of the box, but Idk why i still eat em. lol. Other than dirty carpets (& cups) this is a mom & pops kinda restaurant. Majority are the locals tho.

I’m Hawaii-​born but not Maui built. A few friends of mine and I were looking for a good local spot to eat breakfast on our last day visiting Maui, a local guy we randomly asked suggested this place.
From the outside it gives you a local drive-​inn feel. When you walk inside, you get a family-​friendly vibe. Really nice people working here.
As far as the menu goes, there aren’t many options. It’s a simple menu, which is good and it helps to narrow down your choices.
They have menu options that are served all day, so you can have steak for breakfast. We tried their homemade biscuits with blueberries which are like pieces of cornbread, really, but so yummy. Wish we got to try their fried rice but really, we were stuffed.
Don’t expect IHOP food from this place, but if you’re looking for a good local diner, this place is pretty good.

It’s a hole in the wall, mom&pop type breakfast place.
I had the cornbeef hash. It was pretty junk. wierd thing was it came with mac salad… for breakfast… kinda wierd.
My gf had the banana pancakes. This was by far the worst pancakes ive ever eaten… it must have not been fully cooked… it was uper mushy.
only reason for two stars is the blueberry biscuit was pretty good. however, it actually tasted like cornbread with blueberries in it.

Grew up eating here. Always loved their food. It has never failed me.
Only downfall is the restaurant needs some up keeping so unless you’re from here you’ll think it’s dirty. It really isn’t. Just a mom and pop place.
Local good food. Chopped steak is my favorite. Fried rice and saime. Is also good. I honestly like it here more than Sam satos

Oh Sheiks! I remember coming here almost every week for their fries and Saimin during high school. And for breakfast during my hanabata days! haha
This is definitely a local spot. As mentioned other reviews, it’s unlikely that you would find tourists coming in.
Parking: they have a relatively small lot, but it usually isn’t too busy.
Atmosphere: super casual, super local. Pretty old school feel. People may mention a «smell» of like aged carpet or some sort, dont worry you’ll get used to it, haha. Its where the grandmas and papas come to eat!
Food: they serve local food, pretty good selection. I personally love their fried chicken, I’ve never had a problem with it. It actually has a similar taste to Tasty Crust’s drumettes. Their fried rice, saimin and fat fries are good too. Portions have gotten smaller of the years, most likely due to the higher cost of food. As for the price, some items may be a bit more on the expensive side for their portions. So look around you and see what they look like to get an idea LOL.
Service: they generally have a friendly staff, except for sometimes when they have high schoolers come in, there can be a bit of tude. Just sayin’. Youngins nowadays. The food arrived in a timely manner, around 15minutes.
Overall, good local spot located next to Minit Stop. If you want a quick bite, come on in.
Oh, and they take only cash! Remembah!

Lau lau combo portion was big but the lau lau was too salty. The service wasn’t that great. The waitress did not make sure everyone in our party got their food. Had to wait half an hour before I got my food. Don’t think I would go there again.

this place was recommended by a fren. I definitely need to have a talk with her. first of all when you walk in there’s this smell (I couldn’t make it out but after awhile of breathing you get kinda immune to it). the floor was sticky, plates and cups dirty, and slow service. my fren recommended the fried chicken and that’s what I ordered plus a side order fries (I’m a sucker when it comes to crinkly fries). the chicken had more flour than meat and no flavor at all.

First timer. We wanted to eat before heading to the airport and this was nearby.
I had ordered hamburger steak, hubby got fried chicken and the kids got saimin.
Saimin– was pretty decent and they had split it into two bowls for my kids. Kudos for that
Fried chicken was crispy and cooked! The hamburger steak on the other hand is a whole different story. Got my plate and first bite of meat I took tasted SOUR! wth?! I thought it was just me so I had hubby taste it too and even he said it was sour. I guess the cook thought I was lying because we seen them take a taste of it.
They had let me get another plate so I got dry noodle and that made up for the horrible hamburger steak.

Came here for breakfast on a weekend stop on Maui, nice quaint diner type feel. I had the pancakes with egg and bacon. Nothing really special to expect. But its definitely good. Server was very nice. And the fried rice looked really good. Must try that next time!!!

This place is a dive, but it’s a Maui landmark.
This place is known for cheap eats, really cheap. The place is not the cleanest place, but you pay for what you get.
I like to go here if I’m really poor or sick. Their saimin and french fries are the bomb.
Be warned: They only accept cash.

Sheiks… what can i say, but its a locals spot. You wont find much if any tourists ever eating here. I usually eat her twice a month as I am used to this grungy locally owned restaurants (Jack”s Inn, Tasty Crust, Kitadas… how I miss that place)
If you go here for breakfast the pancakes is the bomb, to me they are better then Tasty Crusts, who boasts the famous pancakes in their sign. When eating here for lunch or dinner, i usually get the Roast Pork plate or the Hot Roast Pork sandwich which comes between two white pieces of bread, brown gravy and mash potatoes… Onolicous :)
The appearance will turn off most people who are not used to this local community spot, and as the the smell… hmm i dont notice anything unusual.

Next stop on my Memorial Day Weekend Maui food tour… Sheik’s. I was really excited to eat here, as i used to frequent this place when i lived on Maui. Unfortunately, I didnt turn out to be as good as i remembered. I ordered the usual; spare ribs with fries and mac salad. Pretty simple local food, yeah? I remember the ribs being very juicy and tender. This time, however, I got mostly bones and the meat that i did get was tough and dry. Bummer. Service, as usual, was great.
3.5 stars for Sheik’s, based on all the great eats i have had here before. «S»
