This place is your typical small dinner that has quite a few tables. Ate here on a Saturday morning around 10 and found it empty so we were a little leery. With 5 adults and two kids we sat down to a lengthy menu with great prices. People came in after we did and it was soon a pretty packed restaurant. Food came promptly and the portions were large and everyone enjoyed the meals. This place may not be super clean as we noticed the tables looked old and a little grimy with some built in dirt on the tables. The rest of the restaurant seemed OK.

It’s impossible to find fault with this down home and friendly café. There were a lot of interesting sounding items on the breakfast menu but we stuck with the old standbys. What we ordered was tasty with nice-sized portions. Prices were wallet friendly too. Perhaps Main Street Café is a little on the small side, but it’s clean and it’s apparent that there was some thought put into the decorations. Overall we felt that it is a solid breakfast or bite whenever destination.

If you’re looking for an all day breakfast place after your long previous evening’s events, this is THE spot. Marlene has been serving up the food we want when we’re hungry for years now. Need somewhere to get breakfast after an all nighter? Look no further. Biscuits and gravy are a favorite and you can’t go wrong with the pancakes and eggs.

This was one of the highlights of the trip. Service was outstanding. It was like having breakfast in your aunt’s kitchen. Large portions, delicious food, and lots of check-ins to make sure all was well. And the prices can’t be beat.

We ate breakfast here this morning and it was amazing. I has the vegetarian omelet with white toast and American fries. Our service was good and the good was hot.

Not the classiest of places but I do like it. If you like diner food that is good and inexpensive, this is the place. Breakfast looks great and that is what I will try next. Lunch has been good and I have always been pleased. It may be the best comfort food in downtown Kalamazoo.

You really can’t mess up greasy breakfast… unless it’s really that bad of a place. Main Street Café is a hole in the wall diner that serves good simple breakfast and I’ve had great service every time I’m there. Bacon. Eggs. Pancakes. Cheap and delicious!

I had breakfast. Good portions, cheap prices. Services was odd, but friendly. By no means gourmet but a good, cheap diner breakfast vibe.

Prototypical hole-in-the-wall diner. Food is OK, service is OK, décor is tacky, all the hallmarks. My corned beef hash needed more time on the griddle but everything else was OK. My wife liked her spinach feta omelet. The coffee was really weak.

Breakfast here is the best and most affordable in Kalamazoo. I come here at least twice a month. If you’re a student, you can get a solid breakfast for around $ 3. For a traditional American breakfast, look no further. The service is also fast. Marlene, the owner and head server, is really friendly.

My favorite breakfast place in Kalamazoo. My boyfriend and I are always greeted with a smile and the server knows our«regular» order. Can’t beat the service or prices. Plus, you get an entire pitcher of coffee left at your table.

Be warned: this is where all the kids go for morning hangover food. Service is nice, portions are giant, and the food isn’t bad at all for the price. The food’s a little on the greasy side(and so are the tables, in my opinion), but this is a solid breakfast place if you’re not expecting anything fancy.

My favorite breakfast place in Kalamazoo. Main Street may not have the best quality food, but you cannot beat the service or the Hawaiian Omelet for that matter. Great diner food. And a pot of coffee is always dropped off on your table after you sit down. The perfect place after a long night

This place isn’t anything fancy but sometimes that’s what makes it better. I’m a fan of everything I’ve had there. The service is friendly and prices are very reasonable.

Certainly not the best breakfast in town(for that I’d try Food Dance or Crow’s Nest), but they do the cheap/greasy breakfast spot thing well. Almost every meal is between $ 4 – 5, the servers are nice, the food comes out in less than ten minutes. It’s hard to find a complaint.

Not bad. Very hungover after a long long night in Kzoo and found this place. Had a ham/egg scrambe for 3.99. Prices are so low and the food is good quality. Can’t beat it for a quick cheap hangover cure and decent food. I still prefer Crows Nest for breakfast anyday, but for a cheap alternative, this does well.

Classic, classic. And the best part about a smaller town, like Kalamazoo, is that you can find parking… DOWNTOWN… RIGHT by the place you wish to go to! They serve the coffee in large pots that they leave on the table. Guess what? This is a coffee lover’s/addict’s dream. I can refill my coffee every time it goes down two millimeters. Basic breakfasts… DIRT cheap prices(I think my meal was six dollars — an omelette, hasbrowns and toast), clean atmosphere, newspaper readers, and a «down home» vibe. And they still have local ads on the mugs. I dont know why, but I love that.

The Food: As long as you are looking for a greasy breakfast, Main Street Café is as good as it gets. The menu is pretty expansive as far as breakfast foods go and the specials, which are always good, change day to day. The portions are very generous and i have never left the restaurant without a food baby that needed to be slept off. The Service: When you step inside Main Street Café, the waitresses make it very clear that they consider you family. As Rivkah B. noted, they are always there to help you with your personal problems and even become like parents away from home for those of us who are out of staters. The food is delivered quickly and the tables are always clean and well stocked. Plus they always have the right hot sauces for us when we sit down. Conclusion: Main Street Café is by far the best place for breakfast in Kalamazoo. While Crow’s Nest and Food Dance might have technically better food, there is nothing that can beat the experience of a cheap greasy spoon breakfast at a comfortable restaurant with good friends. I recommend this restaurant to everyone.

I love Main Street Café. I have lived in Philadelphia for one year now and can not find a greasy breakfast that comes remotely close to this one. It’s as if they perfected the simple breakfast down to it’s most delicious element. The ladies who work there are the kindest, friendliest, most wonderful people I’ve ever met in a restaurant. I leave for 6 months, come back and they still remember my name. I get hugs and kisses on the cheek as if I’m a member of the family. And it is cheap. Expect to walk out stuffed for less than $ 4. This isn’t huge challah bread french toast but it’s is the best example of how less is more.
