We were driving in the area looking for breakfast and we decided to come here. It’s well known that it’s a busy place and sometimes you have to wait for a table. We gave it a try. We got a table in minutes and our server Josh was very helpful and attentive. I ordered the avocado scrambler and my wife ordered a lite omelette. My son ordered a pancake. The coffee they serve is really good! Not sure where they get it but it’s taste is one of the best coffees I’ve tried in this area. We waited no more than 10 minutes when we had our breakfast ready and OMG! My scramble was delicious! I also took a bite of my son’s pancake and it tasted great! On my way out I ordered a cinnamon roll to go and they were sold out! Maybe next time… but we are coming back!

Came here for the bakery and also picked up a frozen lasagna. I ordered a slice of dutch cherry pie, cherry cheesecake bar, and some cookies. The cherry pie was really great, had a crumb topping with a good balance of tart and sweet. The bakery had a lot of breads and take-home desserts. The cherry cheesecake bar was on the sweeter side and was fluffy, not dense like a typical cheesecake. The crust was a soft graham crust that also had nuts in it. The lasagna was great too. It had ricotta and ground beef, and it was a light tomato sauce. It was definitely a lasagna on the lighter side. I’m excited to come back to try the cinnamon rolls and cream puff! I came at lunch time, and the restaurant was packed.

Wow! What a great lunch! Went here on a Tuesday at about noon. Got a table right away although the restaurant was pretty busy. Our server, Nick, was super friendly. My request to have the special Lemon Basil Chicken Salad on a salad instead of a croissant was no problem. It was absolutely delicious and came with two different dressings on the side(one lemon and one sweet raspberry). Good sized portion. The person I was eating with ordered a sandwich, which came with delicious-looking chips and dip. I will say, this wasn’t the fastest place for lunch, but that didn’t bother me. If you need to get in and out quick at lunch, go to Jimmy John’s. I can’t wait to go back again!

Went for lunch originally, which was great(food, service, no wait time). Heard breakfast was even better so went back during brunch. Food was OK, service was great but wait time was about 15 – 20 min. Nice that they have their own bakery, the brownie topped with chocolate chip cookie dough is a must! They also sell Plainwell Ice cream here.

Delicious breakfast! You get so many options and sides with any breakfast order — I always leave with leftovers. The workers are really friendly and helpful as well. It’s a little crowded on Saturday mornings and holidays, but I’ve never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a table.

Got there at 11 am was told they would have to spilt our party of 6 if we wanted breakfast. After agreeing to sit a two different tables we were told it’s to late we could only order lunch. 10 min after ordering the server came out to let us know there was no kale for their weekly salad special. Then about 15 min later they came out to let us know they didn’t have any chicken tenders that my son ordered. After waiting about 45 min our food final came out. It was just ok. They did adjust the bill and offered us some cinnamon rolls on the house which was a nice gesture. However this was the second time we have experienced less than satisfactory service. It seems the front and back of the house are just not on the same page. We will not be going back

I only tried the cinnamon roll from a previous suggestion, but the local said it was the best and they did not let me down. They have a plethora of pastries and deserts. Will be coming back to try more. Must come to!

4 Stars with an asterisk! Rykse’s is a bakery and restaurant. By reading some other reviews I think others share my somewhat hesitant recommendation. What I mean is that I would give the bakery 5 stars. The cream pies are divine and the pumpkin cookies haunt my dreams. The restaurant is 3 stars. We went for brunch and the food was good… but…there is just a few things missing. Maybe it was because we were dining with a 2 year old but the service seemed slow. I eat out a lot so my expectations for place that charges more than 6 bucks for eggs and bacon is high. It just wasn’t gelling from giving us the wrong kids menu, to not having enough table settings. Having broken down my 4 star rating in the end a restaurant where I can get a fresh, warm from the oven, ginormous cinnamon roll as a breakfast appetizer is a place that I will recommend for an occasional indulgence/experience/break from the normal.

The place is clean and neat. The food such as it is is well prepared. The acoustics are AWFUL! Trying to have lunch and the noise is almost unbareable. Forget having a quiet casual conversation here. The menu choices are scattered, eclectic and lack direction. Some are just plain wierd. While others are simple home style fare.

I’ve been coming here for about 20 years. They do not appear to be nearly as busy these days as they were back 10 – 15 years ago, when there used to be long lines waiting to be seated. The food is good but not great – and a bit overpriced – and some of my former favorite sandwiches are no longer available. The service is average. Their bake shop offers some delicious treats, but I seldom buy any because of the calories and the sometimes high prices. A couple times they have quoted my wife and I a price for a whole pie that was based on the restaurant’s individual slice prices, which is ridiculous. I think Rykse’s management has never quite figured out what it really wants to be – a restaurant or a bakery. The last time they remodeled, they replaced a popular meeting room with a bakery and brought in some very uncomfortable wooden chairs that my friends and I simply refuse to sit on when no booths are available. For awhile, the entrance was so crowded with tables full of baked goods that one could barely enter the restaurant. They offer soups at lunch time, but do not list them on the menu, so good luck finding out the price. Despite a whole case of delicious baked goods in the front of the place, I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a dessert menu. Finally, the waitstaff does not take your money or credit card when you are ready to pay your bill. Rather, they leave you your check and you then have to stand in line to pay your bill. This would be okay, except that you often find yourself standing there twiddling your thumbs while the cashier fills a bakery order for another customer. Process management is clearly not a strong suit of Rykse’s management.

What a lovely restaurant. The Lemon Cloud pie was as delectable as can be. It really was soft and light and fluffy, just like the cloud it is named for. This is a family friendly place with lovely service and friendly people. I enjoyed this pie so much. Three thumbs up.

We used to come here a lot, but stopped because of a bad experience. Decided to try again as our car was being serviced next door. Right out of the gate an addition of a cinnamon roll that the menu states is $ 1, we were told«That will be $ 2.69», when we said the menu states $ 1 the waitress made a big deal about making an exception. Food was mediocre for almost $ 10 a person with no beverage.

I’ve been coming here off and on for years and today found they have vastly reduced their menu — again. It was not clear what their sides were, and I had to ask if they had soup. The white chicken chili was good but not hot enough. I hesitate to order their sandwiches because the bread is so thick. My ongoing beef is their rest room: the ladies’ is still dirty and vastly in need of updating! I don’t go here nearly as much as I used to. Wish they would bring back the turkey reuben. They have all the ingredients, but refuse to make it if you request it. Not really after my business, and I’m not a big fan of sweets.

Four stars for breakfast breaks down like this: Omelet — 3 stars; Baked goods — 5 stars; Service — 5 stars. Satisfactory omelet and good coffee, the bran muffin was delicious(got some cherry muffins to go). In fact, the whole bakery case looked terrific. The waiter was on top of all of his tables — he seemed to be everywhere at once and left me wanting for absolutely nothing. Portions commensurate with the prices, but I’d lower the portion to lower the price a buck. All in all, I’ll return with no hesitation.

I’m new to the area, this place is wonderful. Fresh, homemade and delicious. The hours are short, only breakfast and lunch. Our waiter was attentive and very helpful. I strongly recommend eating here or minimally buying some baked goods in the store. And of course everyone mentions… cinnamon rolls are to die for.

Dear god do they make anything that is not amazing here? I love going with one of my good friends and we each order a different sandwich then trade half, best idea ever! Even their sides are amazing and have got me to try things I would not normally try and I now love. I have to stop and get stuff from their take out frequently! The chicken salad is so good, I love the California club,(even their bread is homemade and amazing, my favorite is the oatmeal bread) the broccoli salad is extra yummy, the cowboy caviar is addicting, anything chicken or turkey is so good it is better than homemade because I don’t have to do the dishes after and tastes like it was made with the same love it is in my kitchen. All that and I have not mentioned dessert, believe me don’t miss dessert here!!! Cream puffs with homemade chocolate sauce, fruit pies and cream pies that make you think of Sunday dinner at your grandmas house as they would certainly give her a run for her money… When blueberry season is here I have to go get a blueberry cream pie, they are so amazingly good, and surprise my parents as it is a favorite of theirs too. The Dutch know how to do it right they are a can’t miss restaurant!!!

Breakfast was excellent. Large portions, not greasy, huge cinnamon roll, excellent service with a smile. Coffee was pretty good, not awesome, but good enough. Prices fair, too. Family of 4 eats well for $ 25

Try the cinnamon roles. This place is the best breakfast I’ve ever had. We often take our car to the Toyota dealership down the road and walk here while we wait. Great family place!
