Although they have very tasty selections with large portions at a great price, I have to comment on their honesty. I stopped in last night to get a quick, hot and filling meal and received everything I wanted in addition to very friendly and courteous service. Since the meal was a great deal for the price, I decided to do a «$ 10 tip for a cup of coffee thing» as I was still feeling the holiday mood. I left the money/tip with the check in the folder and walked over to Longs to do some shopping. I was halfway across the parking lot when I realized that the manager was calling after me and had been trying to chase me down. She explained to me that I overpaid and was trying to give the money back. She tactfully mentioned that I might have misread the amount because of the print on the thermal bill tape. When I explained that it was not a mistake, she thanked me and went back to the restaurant. It was a total cash transaction, and if it was a legitimate error, I would never have known, and she could easily have pocketed the cash. I was really touched by their honesty. Chasing someone down because you thought you were overpaid or over tipped; C’mon who does that.

First, the good: plenty of parking, excellent service(food came quickly, server was remarkably attentive), good portions for a decent price(on the combos). Taste was mostly good(gyoza, ramen, mochiko chicken) to average(curry). But I’m thinking that despite a sign that claimed ‘No MSG,’ there was MSG. My wife and I enjoyed our late lunch here and even took food home. But afterward, we crashed hard. Went to sleep as soon as we got home and awoke about 40 minutes later feeling very groggy. That was a bit disappointing. I wouldn’t rule out this place entirely, but given that there are a number of other options in this same shopping center(and more in the food court across the street in the mall), I doubt this will be a regular haunt for us. YMMV.

I didn’t order any ramen; previous reviews saved me from that. I really enjoyed the spam katsu, tofu appetizer, and kimchi fried rice! The mochiko chicken was juicy and flavorful, but the curry wasn’t particularly great. I’d gladly eat here again, but I wouldn’t go out of my way. All of my food was hot, and the waitress was very friendly. Parking is easy breezy, and the restaurant is clean.

Convenient location next to Safeway. But the food and décor were just OK. We had katsu chicken curry and it was Just OK. Can’t complain but not to rave for either.

You know the old expression, «you can’t see the forest for the trees»? If this place was located anywhere but a few doors away from Uncle Howard’s L&L Drive Inn, I would’ve been eating here a long time ago. Recently my wife had a sore tooth and wanted something warm and soupy to eat. I suggested saimin but she was in a mood for something else. Then I remembered Sumo Ramen & Curry so we went there. Walking in the door, I could smell the curry and that was it for me. I’ve always been a sucker for a good dish of curry and these folks are masters of using curry. My(ha ha) foolish wife ordered a won ton mein and I ordered the katsu chicken curry. Thank goodness we didn’t order any appetizers! When they brought out our cauldrons(believe me, these were way bigger than normal bowls) our eyes almost popped out of our heads. My wife was more like(How the H_ll am I going to eat that?) and mine was more like«I think I died and went to Heaven». Fortunately I didn’t have any lunch that day so I had a shot at finishing my food. My wife wasn’t so lucky and ended up eating most of her dish but couldn’t finish because she was full. Unfortunately the curry did a nice job of filling any nooks and crannies I had so we had to abandon the rest of her won ton Mein. The sauces were flavorful and portions as a I said, were very generous. The only thing that prevents this from being a five star review is the service was marginal. Somehow the waitress knew when I was getting annoyed enough to call her and popped up just moments before I would’ve said something. It must be a body language kind of thing because this happened 4 or 5 times during our visit. One would figure the waitress wouldn’t let me get to that point if she were attuned to what I wanted. Go figure. They do take-out and if you don’t want to risk dealing with the servers, I would do that. Nevertheless, we will be back!

Excellent place for families. Everything that I’ve had here is very tasty including their dashi(broth). My typical go-to’s on the menu would have to be the curry udons or the mabo tofu. It’s reasonably priced where you would be able to get a combo(main dish item, gyoza, and fried rice) for $ 10 or less. Service is excellent and the owners of the Kaneohe location is very friendly and personable. Food comes out fast(except for maybe the gyoza). They also do take-out although I have yet to try this option. Parking can sometimes be congested, especially during prime lunch and dinner hours.

I really enjoy Sumo Ramen. Good place for Ramen and Curry. Prices are very reasonable especially the combos. My favorite is the Mochiko Chicken Curry Combo. It includes Mochiko Chicken with a side of Curry and Rice, Gyoza, and a bowl of Ramen. For $ 9.50 you can’t go wrong. The staff is very friendly and will service you right away. They also take phone orders which makes it very convent for dinner: D. All in all a good place to eat if your in Kaneohe.

Omg the curry mochico chicken plate is a beast. That’s the only thing I get from there. It always hit the spot so why change it up.

This place is SOOOO freaken ONOLISCIOUS! Everytime I go back home, about several times a year I use to eat at the one that use to be down the street Makakilo. Well they close that place a few years ago and I was like freaken out. I’ve tried literally 95% of everything on the menu and would always order more than 60 bucks worth. Well my sister in-law said this one was open so now when I go home, either me or my family makes the trip down. My favorite is the garlic chicken wings! Dam Bomb! And of course I love the fried rice and that I’m super picky about. The croquettes are soo good too. My dad loves the fried rice, but always blows up and gets swollen. I told him that’s how you know it’s good food, when it’s seasoned like it should be! He still eats it because it’s worth the onoliscious flavors. It’s not expensive at all and you get hug portions. My hubby too, who’s full on Buddah Head«my grampa called him» but he’s from the mainland, loves the Ramen here. Everything is sooo good and I can’t wait to go back home again this thanksgiving, cuz I’m gonna order a tray of the chicken wings, freeze them and take it back to CO with me. I do that with All the food I like, which takes up a whole suitecase in itself. SOOO worth it! This place is ASGOODASITGET“S! Mainland ain’t got noting on this place, even if they are Japanese owned, like in Denver.

My husband loves mochiko chicken ramen so I tried for the first time. I was very disappointed w their soup. They used udon soup for ramen soup. Spicy beef both was cooked w star anise. It should not get used for Japanese ramen. The only thing good was gyoza.

Affordable, fast service and pretty tasty. We had the vegetable ramen and chicken curry. Good flavor. I don’t have a ton of experience with ramen but comparing to what I’ve had in California it was good. Nice little local spot.

This is a good lil ramen shop. It’s tried and true since high school for me and I want to share my latest experience that made me even more of a fan. I went here with my dad & sister one afternoon recently and there was nobody in the restaurant. My family ordered first and I did my usual«I’m vegan, what the heck can I eat here?» line of questioning. The server did ask me what does vegan mean, which I was happy to explain(but I do think that in this day and age, restaurants should be educating their staff on different dietary needs and restrictions). After I explained it, he suggested veggie rolls and croquette. I said that sounds good! When our food came, I realized that I was son hungry, I forgot to ask if there was egg in any of the items I ordered. He said he was so sorry but there may be egg in the batter for the croquette. He said he felt bad that I ordered something I couldn’t eat. I said it’s okay, I could just take it home for my husband who would definitely eat it. He offered me a veggie ramen which would have no noodles, just a bunch of fresh vegetables in soup water! He said that normally, the soup base has animal products in it so he will make it without that base. At first, I declined, not wanting to create more work and trouble, but he said my family is eating so I should have something to eat with them. I was so thankful for his consideration and understanding of a problem that wasn’t even a problem! I didn’t get his name, but that server is a shining example of great customer service and the reason I will continue to return to this location.

Food is below average. Got gyoza and chicken platter, which were bland and boring. Customer service is also lacking. The guy that works here doesn’t smile or greet you when you enter… he just stands there in front of the cashier and stares at you while he waits for you to order. Will never come back here again.

Love this place! Black pepper noodles awesome! I changed it up and added chicken it was really really good. Service is kind of slow but they’re very very busy, every chair is full they must be doing something right. I changed it up and had chicken told him I did not want beef. They were real accommodating. The portion is huge! When they close their kapolei location down I didn’t think I would be getting this again total A+ plus plus. Service B Food A+ Cleanliness A(they all wear rubber gloves lol)

I think just because I’m Asian and from the Bay Area in Cali, I have pretty high expectations for Asian food. The ramen noodles were pretty bland and the curry chicken katsu was only okay. The gyoza is pretty good.

My husband and I love to eat at Sumo especially on cold rainy nights since we live in Kaneohe. We came here tonight because I just had a root canal done and wanted something nice and soft to eat. It was perfect. Great service and great ramen. My favorite is the Mochiko Chicken Ramen with a side order Gyoza and my husband likes the Char Sui Ramen or Won Ton Ramen. Their Mochiko chicken plate is good also and their Mac salad is one of the best on this side of the island. This is one of our go to places when we can’t decide what we want to eat.
