Best vegetarian restaurant in Kansas City. Don’t waste your time at any of the others. Eden alley always has comfortable seating, friendly wait staff, parking, accepts cash and credit, reasonable prices, and the most delicious and healthy menu. Don’t let other veg restaurants fool you. Just because it’s vegetarian/vegan does NOT mean it’s healthy. Always Eden alley has the most wonderful kombucha. If I could eat here everyday I would.

Absolutely amazing food! I ordered the special of the day– lentil burger with roasted sweet potatoes. It was absolutely delicious and satiating. Not to mention gluten free and vegan :) for dessert, our waitress brought out a large platter and actually showed us the desserts and described them to us! That was a first and was certainly a delightful replacement of just a dessert menu! Definitely recommend this place :)

My boyfriend and I tried Eden Alley for the first time tonight. We started with the curry and hummus dips. I thought the hummus was bland, however, the curry dip was full of flavor and very good. I also had the ginger shandi which was awesome! I had the special of the night which was summer street tacos, very good. My boyfriend had the falafel platter and we were both unimpressed and thought it was bland. We then had the mocha cake which was very moist so thumbs up on dessert. I will definitely be trying Eden Alley again.

If you are not familiar with the location it can be a little trick, it is inside the Unity Temple. The service was great and food was delicious! I love that they use organic and local ingredients! I highly recommend giving this place a try, the patio is a beautiful place to grab a nice brunch/lunch.

Just visited Eden Alley today, and it lived up to my hopes. It was a nice day, so we dined on the patio. Tables are nicely spaced out, could not hear what anyone at other tables were saying. I ordered the«loaf» and my friend ordered the tacos. We both really liked our dishes. The loaf was very filling but not uncomfortably so. Really good, earthy flavor. We were too full to get dessert but after eyeing them in the display, I will definitely get one next time. If it’s up to the quality of the entrée, I have no doubt it will be good. We didn’t get pictures, but our dishes look exactly like the pictures others on Unilocal have posted. Good consistency. Everyone who served us was friendly and helpful which is very much appreciated after experiencing some low-level, rude service lately. Looking forward to my next visit!

I m giving this place 5 star because of the tasty food they serve. It’s amazing, tastes very natural and fresh. Great patio for people watching. — took very long to get water, menu and order drinks. The server took a drink order in a very speedy fashion and skipped my order, showed up with beers 15 mins later and then when I inquired if I can order a beer since I didn’t get asked last time, she rudely asked if we were ready to order as well. Few times during our interactions with her I got the impression she was rushing us, didnt wanted to serve us — food is very expensive(keeping portions and vegetarian) expect to pay at least 60 dollars for two Overall, fair experience and I don’t want to decrease their rating by just concentrating on negative factors

Oh no. Here I go committing Unilocal KC heresy again! 3 stars is a stretch for Eden Alley in my opinion, but I generously rounded up due to friendly service and a really nice patio area for dining. Something I should mention is that I had eaten at Eden Alley with my hubby(then«the guy I was dating») a few years back and we both found it to be pretty bland and boring food. But since it had been a few years and there was a Groupon, we decided to give it another shot, especially since the hubby was very excited to read the Unilocal reviews raving about the desserts. So we came in with an open mind but ended up not being terribly impressed again. Our Groupon deal was for an app, two entrees and a dessert to split. The app was a warm curry dip served with pita and it was really good. My hubby had a Mediterranean platter and he wasn’t terribly impressed by anything about it other than the size of the portion. I ordered the avocado sandwich which was actually fairly good, but something that I could easily throw together myself at home in about five minutes time. Since the hubby was excited about the desserts, we ordered one to split at the restaurant and one to take home for the next day. Both were visually appealing, but the appeal ended once a bite was taken. While the desserts weren’t bad, they weren’t good, either. They were just kinda bland and boring. Both were chocolate desserts, but were lacking enough cocoa/cacao to actually taste very chocolate-y. Overall, it wasn’t an awful experience. The location is fabulous and the people who work there are genuinely nice people who provide great service. I just wish the food lived up to the rest of the experience.

Hands down my favorite place to eat! If you aren’t a vegetarian this place can fix that problem. They truly know how to prepare excellent balanced meals with relatively uncommon ingredients into nutritious wholesome meals that leave you feeling full of energy instead of regret. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu, it’s all good, but always order the special for the day, it’s always the best!

Oh my. I’ve recently returned to vegetarianism and so I met a friend here for lunch. Everything on the menu is fresh, hand made and vegetarian and you can make any meal vegan or gluten free as well. I started out with some hot green tea and then ordered their daily special, the Baba Melt. And that is, ladies and gentlemen: Baba ghanoush spread over an onion and roasted garlic potato flat bread topped with steamed broccoli flowers, grilled chard, sun dried and roma tomatoes, caramelized onions, mozzarella and feta cheese. OHMY. I don’t usually rant about food. Food is food but OHMY this was so delicious. And it was so large, I had to take half of it home. So many colors. So many flavors. And it was so fresh! I was there with a friend who makes this her regular lunch spot and she informed me that she’s had everything on the menu and has never once been disappointed. I loved the space, I loved the waitstaff, I loved the ease of coming in and getting a seat. I can’t wait until it’s springtime so I can sit at one of their tables outside. I’ve been coming to meditation at the Unity Temple for years and I simply can’t believe I’ve never eaten here. Well, I guess I can only in that as a former meat eater, I never thought something vegetarian would be so yummy and filling. To top it off, they have an eclectic drink menu with teas and juices and wine and some beers… so it’s sure to please everyone in your party! I wish someone would’ve let me known a long time ago and this place would’ve been on my lunch rotation for sure. So let me let you, dear reader, know now that Eden Alley is legit. It’s a great healthy, tasty alternative to normal lunch or dinner time fare and I’ll be a patron from here on out. My new goal for 2016 is to try everything on the menu. Wish me luck!

This review is only for the veggie burger as it is one of the best(possibly the best), I have had to date. What is truly remarkable about it was this was actually consumed at probably close to room temperature since this was at a catered event and came out of a small box. And it was fantastic. The patty, the dressings, the fresh vegetables, the bread, all really great. When I first opened the box, I was like, are you kidding me, I paid money for this? But boy was I surprised! I need to visit Eden Alley again, and would like to try some of the other interesting items on the menu, though I will find it hard to eat anything other than that burger, it was that unforgettable.

This would be one of my top ten places in KC. Joey our service was the absolutely best server I think I have ever experienced, including the hugs. He made it an amazing feel good experience. The food was delicious. I have tried a couple of sandwiches and salad options and I have never been disappointed. Also, the desserts make a meh dessert person a yea dessert person! I love the healthy options and a menu that is perfect for those who may have eating restrictions. Having a few friends with medical eating restrictions allows us to come here and everyone can find something to enjoy. Also, the prices are very reasonable. It seems most places like this tend to be overpriced in my opinion, but Eden Alley prices are great. They have very limited hours so check to make sure they are open, but go try them you will not be disappointed!

Sooooooooo yummy! I’m an out-of-towner visiting a vegetarian friend and we found this place by chance. Really relaxed atmosphere and the selection was really great! We did the two meal special — $ 15 each includes an appetizer, an entrée each, and dessert. They have vegan options for everything as well. Im not even vegetarian and I would definitely would recommend this place!

Eden Alley is far and away my favorite restaurant in Kansas City. In addition to Celiac Disease, I also have a host of food allergies, which make eating out more than a little challenging. Eden Alley has always taken my dietary needs seriously, and they even offer an ingredient list for all menu items upon request. They offer high quality, health conscious ingredients that always taste fantastic. The menu is so diverse and tasty that even my most carnivorous family/friends enjoy eating here. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting, and the staff are always welcoming. They even have a beautiful shaded patio for dining outdoors. I am so grateful to have Eden Alley in Kansas City. I only wish this gem was open seven days a week!

After a meal in Paris at a well-regarded vegan restaurant, I was skeptical about trying the food here. I am glad that my girlfriend recommended that we had a brief lunch here. The ambience is roomy, as this is a rec hall by design, with tables with adequate distance between them. Think of a small café stretched on all ends, and no addition of more tables. You have your privacy, and with their attentive service, you really feel like you’re at home. Excellent attentve service, and the wait staff seem knowledgable. The food here was served with good plating and portion size(medium size). Service was attentive and did not take a long time. The breakfast foods here are excellent. I ordered the eggs benedict. The sandiwches could use some work to add cohesion of ingredients. And onions in salads? C’mon! Overall, this is a nice relaxing pace to dine. There is something homely about this place where you feel comfortable to read your book in peace while enjoying their coffee roasts.

Excellent food all around, at a good price, and decent portions. The veggie burger is good(not the best I’ve had) but the loaf and chef’s choice salad are both incredible! I am not vegan or vegetarian but I loved them both and are filling(unlike some vegetarian places I’ve been). The staff is really friendly too. Like others have said the location is a little odd but spacious and relaxing.

Really great place if you are vegan. I’ll stop right there and say I am neither vegan or vegetarian but I had some really fantastic tacos here. I would recommend this to someone who needs a vegan restaurant to take your vegan friend/relative to and want to have a decent meal. Atmosphere is a little weird as it’s in a community center type space which is very open and the amount of people there to eat couldn’t really fill it.

Despite being a vegetarian, I’m always a little leery of vegetarian restaurants — I usually feel like they push a kind of health food agenda and are wont to spread nutritional untruths. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find Eden Alley does not do this at all. It’s definitely an «eat your veggies» kind of place, but not one that shames you for ever doing otherwise. The restaurant is actually right off of a Unitarian church and, if I’m not mistaken, looks like it was probably part of the church being renovated into a restaurant space. It’s extremely open and I hear it has a nice patio. The interior has a play area for children and the walls display modern/abstract paintings. Our server was very sweet and attentive. She also made some fantastic recommendations. For dinner I had the special — the late summer cornocopia(not sure if this was a typo or some sort of pun) and the ginger shandi(again not sure why that particular spelling). The ginger shandi came out first and it was delicious! The drink was a mix of Boulevard Wheat beer, a ginger syrup, lemonade, and a fruity flavored and layered ice cube. Definitely would recommend. The late summer cornocopia came out pretty quickly and was also fantastic. It consisted of a roasted half of spaghetti squash topped with one«cheesy» sauce(made from nutritional yeast) and one tomato sauce(featuring sun-dried tomatoes). There were also broccoli florets, green beans, and mushrooms thrown in the mix. It was incredibly filling and satisfying. If you’re ever in the Kansas City area and looking for a good veggie place, this is the spot to be!

So I’m writing this in a whispering tone because I have some friends who absolutely love and swear by Eden Alley, but I have to shoot straight and let y’all know that my food here was surprisingly bad. The concept of this spot is so amazingly unique. It’s part of a church, but not any church, a non-denominational church anchoring a busy intersection on the Plaza. Not only that, but the basement restaurant expands to a Plaza patio. If you walk through the other bar/night club kind of places around the Plaza, you’ll know what I mean when I say this place gets an A for originality. I consider myself an open minded eater, and while I eat meat, I’m all good with vegetarian meals too. I ironically find some of the pure veggie meals heavier than meat options. The heavy grain combos and multiple fibrous veggies can have me rolling out of a place like this. It was very quiet when we went here, and we were a bit unsure of where to go. We ordered from the basement area and migrated outside to the patio. All the servers we encountered were very cool, friendly and helpful. We started with some hummus and I took one bite of it and got that, «Oh shit, something is wrong with this» feeling. It was leaky, watery, gritty, flavorless and honestly about the worst hummus I could imagine tasting on this planet. Usually my date and I trade tit-for-tat dipping our pita while taking down a plate of hummus, but this one resulted in a silent cry for our waitress to come remove this from our sight. I then had a sandwich that fell apart in my hands and at that point I was sort of just ready to cut the cord and count my losses. I looked over at my date’s nearly full dish(a burrito) and noticed she wasn’t really making much headway on it for the same reason I wasn’t. I actually enjoyed hers more than mine, but only in a «I enjoy a small flu shot versus a large tetanus shot» kind of way. Is it possible I ordered wrong or hit it on an off night? Absolutely. The menu still has some allure to me, and I can see why it’s a cool/unique/fun spot, especially for vegetarians. Will I be back? Hell to the naw. I just remember having such a bad taste in my mouth(literally) that I’m out on this place.

I really want to like Eden’s Alley. I do like the vibe of the place: paintings on the tabletops, a spot for kids to play, and it’s plaza location in the basement of the unity church. The food not only missed the mark for me, but really tasted bad. I love vegetarian and vegan food, but they did not seem to get anything right tonight. We got the tofu sandwich and the loaf. I’ve never had a sweet potato I didn’t like until tonight as a side with the loaf. We weren’t feeling the love.

I love the concept of a vegetarian farm-to-table top eat. I love the spaciousness and relaxed setting of the interior. I would have given it a 4-Star, but flavors were alarmingly lacking, overdose on oil, pricy for the portion. The names sounded fun and exciting, but I think their creativity(and Flavor!) make their offerings short of the glory. They pitch their idea so well(even the mugs and dishwares, the interior setup, service. very«hipster» — for a lack of a better choice of vocab — fun, and different. Edgy in its own rights). Then the food is served, and they don’t meet my expectations. Now, their desserts. The Monstrous Mocha Chocolate Cake was absolutely addicting! my favorite. Another interesting option is their Chocolate Coconut Cake(avocado base for their pudding-cream?). The Carrot Walnut was my greatest regret. very bland. $ 5~$ 6/piece Despite it all, I appreciate being able to dine with greater peace-of-mind than I can at most other restaurants: the promote Local and Organic sources. Nevertheless, notice that the local and organic claim does not apply to all ingredients. still makes a difference! Check out their Date Night Friday option: For $ 30, 2 People share: 1 appetizer + 2 entrée items + 1 dessert (tax & gratuity not included) ^ The above is what my other 5 friends and myself chose to do. good for us, good for our waitress.

«Eden Alley» is the perfect name for this restaurant. It really is like a little alley of heaven. The interior exudes an ethereal aura, and the fact that it’s connected to Unity Temple makes it even more magical and calming. The staff are all very friendly and helpful, as is often the case for vegetarian/vegan restaurants. The food is, for the most part at least, delicious. I have tried a couple of things I didn’t completely love, but the build-your-own-burrito never fails. The hours are also kind of strange… I feel like they’re never open when I want them to be. I also want to point out that to my knowledge, all the other veggie-friendly restaurants in KC are fully vegan, while Eden Alley is vegetarian with vegan options. I prefer this because I love cheese ;)

When you’re in Kansas City, everyone tells you to eat the BBQ. The conference I was attending even provided attendees with a giant list of BBQ joints to check out. Unfortunately, if you’re veg-inclined, you’d think you’d be SOL, right? Wrong. In Country Club Plaza, therein exists a slice of alternative-eating heaven: a restaurant with a menu with only vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. And yes, they had a BBQ sammy. Replace pork with seitan, and I was set! The BBQ sammy was excellent, as was the side of potatoes that came with it. I tasted a bit of the mac and cheese someone else ordered and wished I had ordered the«Triplet» — where you pick 3 dishes and get small-sized versions of them. I also partook in Venus cake, which is a light chocolate and coconut cake that was simply delicious. The service was excellent — our waiter was very attentive to our party of 7. The space was big and airy, plus quiet on a Saturday night. There’s a temple above the restaurant, so with all the local art adorning the walls, I felt like we were in this church-esque /art gallery assemblage of a restaurant. On the way back to our hotels, the shuttle driver noted that KCBBQ culture is all about making it your own way. I was glad to hear that, because BBQ my way is still good, even sans meat.
