I give up on Frank’s. They have awesome veggie dogs that I crave. I dealt with the lack or personality or customer service for these delicious veggie dogs. But now they change their hours so they open at eleven am and close at three pm. You are catering to a very, very small group of people at this point. I don’t get it. Why be open at all? So let’s do the math. Rude employees who just stare at me blankly + hours that are only convenient for you = me no longer being a customer.

Are you familiar with hot dogs? If not, don’t worry! Once you walk inside Frank’s Delicious Hot Dogs & Sausages, you can watch a video installation showing hot dogs being cooked on a grill. It’s pretty dang high art for a wiener joint. Fancy«art» aside, this place is alright. I mean, if you want a hot dog or sausage, they’ll have your fix. Plus they have a large variety of specialty dogs, topped with things that I wouldn’t consider on my own but look dang tasty. Also, if you want to just be traditional and get a dog with ketchup, mustard and relish, you can do that too! The sides of mac and cheese are legit! It’s ultra-creamy and topped with bacon, so I’m not sure how you could NOT like it. The beverage options are limited, but they do have cream soda on tap, which makes some people happy! Basically, if the name of this place appeals to you, what’s inside will appeal to you as well. It’s good stuff!

Best place in town to get a good Chicago dog. Love the neon relish, hot peppers and fresh tomato. Unlike the real Chicago dog, I did not experience heartburn for three days! Chips are great, and red cream soda on tap is awesome. Good value for the price.

Went to lunch at Franks Delicious(yes it is!) Hot Dogs today and got a jumbo hot dog with onions, kraut and onions. Delicious. Even as yummy as the hot dog, were the french fries. Thin yummy deliciousness in a basket. Now, to find a corner of the office to nap, because I’m stuffed.

Tubed meat, how I love thee. But I wish to be loved in return. A true Chicago style hot dog is all about two things: dog and bun. God forbid if either is lacking. I wouldn’t call Frank’s attempt a true Chicago style hot dog and here’s why: the dog should have a good casing and should snap when you bite into it. It should be juicy and savory, a bit of lingering garlic. This dog lacked inspiration, taste and a decent casing. They boast use of locally made high quality products but honestly this was barely a step up from a lowly Hormel dog of the cheapest kind. What the heck? The bun was massive, almost looked like it was whole wheat and hadn’t really been heated or steamed properly. I’d estimate it at least 12 – 18 hours paste its prime – suggesting it should have been sold the day before. You can see evidence of this in the photo I took. The condiments were good, not great: green relish, mustard, hot pepper, etc. The total bite into it, a bit dry. Sigh… The homemade in-house tamale was the star of my two item dinner. It was moist, sprinkled with some partially cooked onions and a bit of savory cheese(not the orange/pink stuff). Falling apart tender. Should have gotten three of those but after all, this is a hot dog place with a dozen decent Mexican spots within a 5-minute walk At 5:45 p.m. I was the only customer on a Friday night. Maybe my lust for a true Chicago dog tainted my experience, but this visit I’d have to rate as something I wouldn’t want to repeat, and likely won’t.

Back to Frank’s today, I was craving that fabulous Chili Mac(I got 2 servings)! It was delicious! And because I’m a glutton, I also got the Über Dög Chicago Style. HUGE dog! It’s going to take 2 sittings to finish it! And I’m happy to report the peppers were plenty spicy this time around! Mmmmmmmm!

I have been to Franks many times now, and I like the new place. It’s pretty spacious and there’s more room for a big group of people for lunch. I’m a big fan of the Fabulous Burger, though my other favorite is the chili cheese dog(Jumbo size). My husband loves the Chicago dog. For the sides, I love the baked beans and Mac n’ Cheese, but the fries are pretty good too.

I really like the quick in-and-out option of Franks. They have a variety of things to choose from, despite the name. I settled on the KC style dog, with BBQ beans and dill pickle spears, along side. It was good — not wonderful, but good. Their fries are really yummy, almost like little french-fried onion though in consistency. My lunch date got the«fabulous» burger. He said he would have renamed it the«just good» burger. Overall, I really like the place; it was busy enough. They are only open for lunch, though, so make sure you get there by 3pm. The owner, manager perhaps, came to check in with us and see how our meal was. I’ll be happy to see them successful — it’s nice to have a change from Mexican on the Blvd.

Franks, why do you taunt me, so… I WANT to like you, more! I love Hot Dogs! Wow, do I ever. But… I tried your establishment down near Kemper when you first opened, and didn’t have a good experience, at all, but went back because I felt like I needed to give you a second chance. And that second chance was… O.K. I was able to change my order up enough to make it tolerable, but it was still inconsistent as far as service and food quality. But, it’s a hot dog, right? Should be pretty easy to just be alright with it, but… I guess my standards are too damn high. Anyhow, then you moved! Over to SW Blvd. Which, is certainly more traffic for you, bur further from my work. But, I still head to Crossroads at times and decided to give your new spot a shot. But you were closed? On a Monday at lunch? With no hours posted anywhere? Hmmm… Then, I tried again, really craving a Hot Dog, and honestly, wanting to see what you guys had in store. But the shop is just so damn WEIRD! The seating arrangement, the way you do the drive-through, the strange vibe of a place where customers were obviously there to support but were unhappy with their service… I felt bad for you! And the wait for my(seemingly) simple food-stuff just frustrated me too much to really enjoy it… and, honestly, it wasn’t that great, anyhow. As I’ve mentioned, I gave you many chances. I MIGHT go back if a co-worker were to really be craving a hot dog and wanted me to go along, but… even then, I might just try to convince them to go to Quick’s for some BoLo…

I love tubular meats, a lot… really…and I wanted to love Franks too, but damn it if I didn’t have an odd, somewhat bad experience. First off, we were the only customers in the place. We were neither greeted on our way in or on our way out. Then the Saturday NIght Live skit started. We placed our order, were then given our order number to then sit in the empty dining room waiting for our food and then one of the two employees working walked our food to the counter and called our number! We were the only ones there. Could they not walk the food 10 feet to our table and hand deliver it? Make it more personal and be like«hey guys, your foods ready»? But no, we got a dry delivered«number 13, number 13». No kidding, we are the only people in this place! I just hope we didn’t add to the skit potential and actually look down at our number to make sure it was ours, but with this weird little place surrounding us, we may just have. I wanted the food to be great. A drive thru local hot dog place is what dreams could be made of, but alas, the food was mediocre. The hotdog was fine but nothing special. It’s in the name of the business, it should be special. I also ordered the cheese fries which were cooked so long that they were crispier than a potato chip and the cheese sauce never made them turn a slight bit tender. I didn’t have it in me to complain or approach either of the two employees that were void of customer service, cooking skills or personal interaction. What a disappointing experience. It’s going to take a lot of great word of mouth before I venture down and try Franks again.

Just had the Franks Fabulous Burger and Chili cheese fries, and it was delicious! The service was great, the dining area was clean, and the portion was huge. Glad I decided to have the cheese and chili added to the fries or the fries would have been a tidbit bland. The ice machine didn’t have ice and the grilled onions were not quite right. But other than that, everything was tasty! I will go back soon!

Pretty good stuff. Got 5 dogs. Cooked to order over charcoal. Service was amazing!!! My hands were full with my baby and I was on the phone, they noticed and came to open the door do I could get in without struggling. Would go back again just for the customer service, a lost trait!

Stopped in for a quick lunch today at Franks which I had heard made a great chili dog, and let me tell you it is great. A great chili dog needs of course chili but also needs a bun that can contain said chili, raw onions sprinkled on top and a little mustard for additional tang. I got what I asked for and a side of fries too. The value here is a good utility lunch without breaking the bank while getting a quality dog. The franks had great beef flavor and were sized for the bun and toppings. The fries leave a little to be desired. I love good steak fries, unfortunately Franks is serving up shoestring which tend to dry out and overcook easily. Everyone that sat down around me seemed very happy with their meals and I get the impression you don’t leave this place hungry. So why the 4 stars you ask? Simply put, décor. This place could use a little sprucing up and a reset on the dining area, old tables and chairs fill this place and make the room feel dated. Truthfully this is more of a 4.5 star place I’m just used to a different dining room setup. Overall the food is legit and the value is great. Highly recommended all the way.

Franks, This place is legit. The west bottoms has a bit of a ghostly feel but it’s birthing some wonderful spots. Kansas city it’s time to get out and support our local economy. Keep your culinary dollars local. Franks hours are a little tough sometimes but when your downtown and your ready for a lunch that’s going to satisfy and not leave you bloated and unable to work get a dog from franks. Franks has a wide variety of sausages like bison and cheese. He gets as many as he can here locally and you gotta tip your hat to that. I honestly don’t think there is a bad choice on the menu from the usual suspects like Chicago and NewYork to you picking an toppings you want. His fries are real thin stringy and on point. I don’t know about you but I don’t have stock in Jimmy Johns or these other chains so make the trip across the 12th street bridge reminisce about when you went to the beast this Halloween and get a sausage from Franks.

The price is right, but the hours are nearly impossible. I would try again, but I’d have to take a day off to make it. I loved the Chicago, but was a bit surprised(in a not-so-good way) by toppings on some of the others(Boston, New York). I’ve never been too impressed by restaurants who seem proud to use a lot of canned ingredients and even tend to decorate with the waiting-to-be used canned goods. The toasted buns are the salvation and more hot dog places should realize what a difference this makes. I was the 6th order of the day and it took almost 20 minutes to get 3 hotdogs… I don’t think they were quite ready for the day because once they started getting orders out, it went pretty fast, but it took them quite a bit of time to get the ball rolling. Very small dining room, but comfy and clean.

Finally! A hot dog venue that doesn’t take itself too seriously(no offense Dog Nuvo). I am excited to say that this is another West Bottoms hidden treasure. While the restaurant has been open for a few months now, I just got around to stopping in the other day, and boy am I glad I did! While this is a hot dog joint, I have to admit this review will focus solely on the amazing side of Mac & Cheese I ordered to go along with my Chicago Dog. I talked my co-worker into going to Franks with me for lunch on Wednesday. We both ordered the same thing and we both paid less than $ 5 for lunch, score! Of course when we returned to the office we both started with the Mac & Cheese instead of the hot dog. Halleluiah! The Mac & Cheese was A M A Z I N G! You get so much for spending so little. It’s not just Mac & Cheese, it also has bacon and peppers in it and it is oh-so good. It was like a little bowl of heaven to brighten up a dreary day. We are still talking about how good it is! Don’t get me wrong, the hot dog was good too, it just had the misfortune of having to go after the Mac & Cheese. If you’re in the neighborhood(and even if you’re not), I highly recommend this place for lunch. It’s quick, it’s cheap, it’s tasty and the employees are very friendly!
