This place has been on my list to go to for a long time. I am so glad that we finally made it last night! First off, I was not aware that this place has a main floor and a downstairs venue as well. It was purely by accident that we discovered this. Each floor seems to have it’s own vibe. The upstairs has the house band so to speak… their pictures and names are on the drink menu, so I’m guessing that they are always there. Our feeling was that upstairs they are more like background music to a really long bar with seating either down the length of the bar or surrounding the band in the front area. Downstairs is set up with a small bar in the back area and the seating is all facing the stage area where the music seems to be the main draw. I think both areas have a great feel and a cool atmosphere and it’s important to know that they both exist. We loved our visit there and are definitely looking forward to going back.

Just the coolest place to enjoy great jazz and a terrific cocktail. Premier talent, luxurious ambiance, cozy seating, friendly and attentive staff. Great for a classy evening or a night cap(open to 3am). LOVE this place… and no cover!

3.5 stars. A little pricey but the drinks were good and there was live music when we went. Nice, relaxing lounge feel. Need to go again to try some more of their cocktails.

My fiancé and I took my mom here to give her a taste of Kansas City life. They never have a cover charge and seating is always open. It is a wonderful place and very classy. Get there a bit early to get good seats for the bands. You can check who is playing on their website. For a more detailed review go to:

I wish there was actually a dancing green lady, but you can’t have everything. This place is awesome. Smooth Jazz. Dancing if the crowd is right. Class, style and chill vibes. You know where to go friday night if you want to have a good time.

This lounge was beautiful and unpretentious. My friend and I were visiting Kansas City and very excited to stop by. The drinks were great and the atmosphere even better. When we arrived the second band was just getting ready to play. Once they started they killed it! There’s nothing better than to enjoy a good drink with great music all at the same time. If you are ever in Kansas City make a point to stop by here.

Absolutely a Kansas City institution, and a gem. Easily one day of the sexiest bars in town. Brought hubby and a friend who had never been before, he had an absolute blast. Jazz was very good, as hubby put it «John Coltrane cool», and«how Kansas City jazz should feel». Well said. Could have hung out till 3am. Cocktails were well done, had a Cosmo and a Lemon drop, hubby had a perfect gin martini and scotch. Hummus plate comes with literally half a box of crackers. Tip: get there early! We came on a Saturday night about 9:30 and were lucky to snag a table. Any later and you’ll be lurking at the bar, waiting for someone to leave. There were some annoying«shot, shot, shot» immature 29-somethings making quite the racket next to us, but other than that, a super classy joint. Like how well dressed the wait staff is. Good jazz, good drinks, no cover charge, open super late. Pre-dinner, post-dinner, or all night kind of place. Just as likely to see someone in a fur coat as someone in jeans. Cool place!

Whoever the Green Lady is, she is a goddess. Despite living a few blocks away, it took nearly 9 months for me to finally visit the Green Lady Lounge. I definitely wish I would have gone sooner. GLL is enrapturing. Between the live jazz, great cocktails, and swanky ambiance, it is hard to not feel like you are in a different world. That is, of course, unless you spend every night in an old-fashioned feeling jazz bar. Which in that case, you go Glen Coco. Server and bartender were both hospitable and prompt on the two occasions I have visited the Green Lady Lounge. I look forward to coming back many times.

Very nice atmosphere. Low lighting and usually pretty crowded. The live jazz bands are usually pretty good and the drinks aren’t bad either. I also like the fact that they’re open pretty late. Not a bad spot at all.

Like my drinks tall and strong, my jazz to to tell a great story from the soul, an atmosphere that’s sultry for a date but relaxed for a group meet. Welcome to Kansas City’s jazz hot spot Green Lady Lounge. 7 days a week live music but no cover EVER. I don’t know how they pulled it off but I am all in. Longer than it is wide the bar runs almost for all of it. Lush red velvet, cozy booths, low gold light that you would have to try really hard to look coyote ugly in. I heard the area had a shady history but I see none of that now, just classy good looking staff, well lit parking and an inviting spot to spend an evening any night of the week.

This place is awesome period. Dark red velvet theme, old leather booth, tiny table up front to the stage. I was 8 ft from the sax! Classic, good vibe, I can come here every nite if I live in KC. You just don’t get much of these jazz any more.

A fun and classy atmosphere, with light jazz, soft lighting, and candles. Be careful with your orders, though – a martini here will run you $ 12.

No cover, great atmosphere, two levels of lounges each with a live jazz band. This is the kind of experience I was hoping for during my night out on the town in KC. You walk in and the first thing you notice are red walls and dim lights. It feels warm and slightly sinister, especially with all the booze hounds tucked away in every corner of the place. You’re best bet from here, especially on a crowded weekend night, is to find a spot near the music and pray a server will stop by and take orders sooner than later. Mine came by somewhere in the middle. After a so-so house cocktail(something like a Manhattan), I swapped to double scotches. Sure, there’s no cover and the music’s pumping, but the band gets paid out of the bar(and tip jar), so your cover is hidden in your tab. Before leaving, I checked out the downstairs lounge, only to find another great local band fronted by a vibes player going nuts on some modal jazz. No complaints here. The bar downstairs was tiny compared to upstairs. Still, very cool to have two simultaneous shows going on at once. If you visit KC, Green Lady Lounge is a must visit.

Got to love the local jazz scene at the Green Lady Lounge. You can find some of the best jazz musicians in the country here. It’s hard to find a seat on most Friday and Saturday nights. So be prepared to wait for your seat! Also, check their website for a schedule of the performers ahead of time. I love the organist they have so I typically try to show up when he’s performing. You MUST visit here if you’re visiting KC. It’s simply the best.

Ginger Beer is AWSOME, be sure to try it, it’s on tap The drinks are excellent and the live music is jazz and even if that’s not your favorite it is light and enjoyable. They have a great drink menu also with some really good drinks. The Ginger cocktails are really good. I love Ginger so I’m hoping Heaven is like this. Lol

This place is a must! Live jazz is amazing and stiff drinks are superbly prepared. The bartenders and server are class acts and add to the vibe. There is no food so eat before you go! The best seats are in the front half of the bar near the band and against the wall. Those are usually full — we sat in the back half of the bar and could still see the band. It isn’t so loud you can’t talk but you won’t want to — you will just want to enjoy and listen to the music! Not a dance place either. Don’t expect anything fancy but do expect to feel«cooler» than when you went in!

Green Lady Lounge is one those gems in KC that contributed to my amazing weekend there recently. The second I walked in the door I in love with the place. This retro-gaudy-chic, dimly lit, hand-crafted-libation-haven whispers of a vintage era where Don Draper suavely mixes your cocktails, a live jazz band plays your favorite standards, and the regular patrons warmly greet each other dressed in Saturday evening going out attire. The space is quite large and there’s also a «secret» basement area with even more lounge space. The cocktail menu is classically inclined with a venue-specific spin, all of which are very well made. My personal recommendation, however, would be the eponymous Green Lady cocktail if it’s your first time here. It’s strikes a perfect balance between sweet, bitter, citrus, and boozy, and it was the crowd favorite with the group of people I was with. But don’t just come here for the great libations. There’s no cover for some incredible jazz music, and with a venue like this, why wouldn’t you want to come in for a least a few drinks when you’re out on the town? I can’t wait until I’m back in Kansas City to come back to the Green Lady Lounge, it has my 5 star approval rating for sure!

How on earth have I never reviewed Green Lady Lounge? This place is exactly what KC has needed and has been an amazing time every time I’ve visited! The last time there, my cab driver pulled up and blankly stared at the building, asking, «Are you sure that’s it?» It’s certainly an unassuming hideaway with a little sign and no peeking into the windows before you get in. But yes, that’s it and the fun starts on the inside. The old, brick lined building stretches back, with live jazz up front and the bar lining the majority of the lounge. The jazz varies, so check their calendar online, but there you’re bound to find some variety of good local musicians on any given night. The cocktails here are good and will not cost you an arm and a leg, which earns some bonus points. Overall though, the atmosphere carries this five star rating. It’s relaxing but upbeat, classy but cool, and new but traditional. Ever since Jardine’s on the Plaza closed, KC has needed another good jazz place. There are good ones sprinkled about, but we need more since it’s in our heritage here, and fortunately the Green Lady Lounge delivers that and then some. Grab a table, kick back and get in touch with the roots of KC at one of the funnest bars in town.

Green Lady is one of my friends and my’s favorite places in the city. Cheap drinks. Classy atmosphere. Great music. This is Kansas City Jazz at it’s finest. If I have an out of town friend and they want KC Jazz, this is where I take them. It’s more updated than The Majestic and has more of a smoky 20’s vibe than The Phoenix(although there’s no smoking). I love those other KC staples, but this place has a special place in my heart. They have two levels, the main level and then downstairs. Usually, when I’ve been here, they’re piping the music to the bottom level if there’s a band up top. The jazz is good but I will say it is usually Loud. Not the best place if you want a quiet conversation unless you sit in the back. The walls are blood red and the bartenders wear black dresses or suits. An entire wall of downstairs is just a bunch of floor to ceiling mirrors, reflecting the cool-ness of this place. It is always crowded and always a good time.

Love this place! Definitely my go to for live musics. No cover, great jazz, intimate atmosphere, and really great cocktails — what more can you ask for? The dimly lit interior harkens back to the speak easy history of KC, and the cocktail menu is a modern ode to the complex mixology that is so in vogue now. The Young Man’s Cocktail with cognac and the Blood and Sand with scotch are two of my favorites($ 10 each), rivaling Manifesto in quality and balance in terms of mixology. This is also one of the few places that I’ve seen ginger beer on tap — very cool! I love the intimate booths in the upstairs, but you have to get there early to nab one. The place is nearly full at 8pm on the weekends, so come early if you want a good seat.
