Gina and the gang at Kenton Brothers DOTHEJOB. And it always works. Jenny, in the service department is a joy to speak to when you need service. The counter guys are smart and quick… ANDDOTHEJOB! There’s a reason some small businesses last 120 years. Kenton Brothers knows that reason.

There aren’t many mom and pop stores left out there that handle these services. However, I can highly recommend this one. I’ve used their services several times whether it was purchasing locks(they can even key them to fit the same key) or cutting copies of keys(getting it right the first time), they have been very friendly and helpful. They have quite a selection of locks and services and are honest and upfront with you. Their prices are competitive and the other mom and pop hardware stores that don’t have keying services recommend them. Parking? They have a small private lot and are a short walk from downtown and the Crossroads.

Three minutes. No wait, that’s not dramatic enough… THREEMINUTES! In three tiny minutes I was able to get in, get two copies of a key made, and get out. THREEMINUTES! It took me 30 minutes yesterday to get the same thing from Grandpa Mumbles over at Home Depot, and those keys ended up not even working. I don’t know what else I can say. I mean, it was a 3 minute interaction, after-all. But they did what they promised, correctly and quickly. I hate that other terrible places(I“M TALKINGABOUTYOU, HOMEDEPOT) have set the bar so low, but they have and Kenton Brothers more than cleared it.

I love living downtown. That is no secret. It’s where I work, live, play, and explore. And I love sharing my space with others so that they can realize how great Downtown KC can be. This means, I often have a need for keys for guests to use. Back when I lived in West Plaza, Ace was my go-to standard for any key-making needs but I was on the lookout for something a little closer to home once I moved to this area. After two visits here, I have a new home for key-making. No question. They may have a monopoly on the market because there aren’t many places here to choose from, but even if there were, this would be my favorite. The guys here are quick, make keys that fit better than my original set, and are reasonably priced. $ 2-$ 5 and 5 minutes after walking in the door, and you’re ready to go. When it comes to keys, I have a lot but memorize which key goes to which lock. For those with more keys or less ability to keep them straight, Kenton has a large variety of key chains, key toppers, and funky colored key rings for anywhere from 50 cents to $ 2. The building seems very starch and corporate, and I probably passed it 100 times before I ever realized what it was and another 50 before I realized they serve walk-up traffic and not just businesses in need of security systems. Do not let the exterior fool you though. When you walk in, there is cheerful music coming from an old school stereo(sometimes it’s country but I can overlook that) and you are instantly greeted with a smile and are a priority no matter how large or small your key-cutting needs may be. Discovering Kenton Brothers has helped fill one the few spaces in my living needs that I previously couldn’t have met in the businesses Downtown. A few more niche places like this and I’d be able to never leave.(not that I’d want that!)
