Went for a living social deal and absolutely loved it! The food was amazingly fresh and delicious. I well be visiting again often. Try the delicious stuffed grape leaves.

Unfortunate this place had to close. Last time I visited I ordered chicken shawarma and it was delicious. Will never forget it.

I stopped by on a Saturday around 12:30. I was hoping for a nice buffet, lots of Egyptian food. I walked in, seated myself. I looked at the buffet. There was falafel,(that’s a plus, but it looked like it was sitting around for awhile), Egyptian noodles,(looked like it had been there for awhile as well), pita bread triangles, a pasta dish that needed to be replaced. There was a huge tray of turmeric/curry rice which was delicious. On the cold area, there was a black bean salad, 3 types of hummus, baba gonouche. I debated between ordering from the menu, or ordering the buffet. I really wanted falafel, so I decided on the buffet. It was actually very good, but there wasn’t any vegetables, except a few salad bar items. Their hummus was so/so. I’ve had better baba gonoushe. The rice was a plus. But I wasn’t totally crazy about this place. I think I’d have faired better if I’d ordered from the menu. But there are plenty of vegetarian options, which is great. I think I can get falafel at better places, But it’s nice to know that this location is there, I tried it, and don’t really care for it. Except the décor. The décor is gorgeous, but you don’t go a restaurant for décor.

I had high hopes for this place mainly due to the 4 star rating here on Unilocal.I can’t recall the last time I’ve tried Egyptian cuisine but the menu looked promising. They have similar, if not the same food items as Mediterranean/Greek cuisine, which I personally love. The location is in the Westport area along Broadway. Parking along the street can be challenging but I also would prefer not to park in the back area either; not too surprising considering the area. Because of its location, I did expect there to be a decent amount of patrons, but found about 2 tables occupied. The restaurant is quite roomy and has many tables. They do have waiter service, one during my evening visit. She was very genuine and friendly as well. When asking for her insight on particular dishes, she did not quickly respond with«It’s really good» or some other generic answer. She provided her opinions on what she likes personally and what she sees are hot selling dishes. The food wasn’t the greatest in my opinion. We ordered the grape leaves as our appetizer, the Kifta Kibab sandwich, and the chicken curry(their special for the day). The grape leaves were something I have never had and was intrigued. The taste is a bit sour but I thought it was okay. The texture is a bit slimy and chewy. The Kifta sandwich was pretty good. It’s essential a pita wrap filled with Kifta, minced beef with onions and herbs. It reminded me of the minced beef in Thai cuisine, but has a salty and tangy(Mediterranean) flavor. The sandwich was served with fries, which were inconsistent; some were soggy and some were crunchy. I recommending asking for cucumber sauce for dipping the fries! The chicken curry was a bit salty and definitely has a less thick consistency than Indian curry. The chicken was served bone in and was dark meat. This curry dish came with rice and sautéed vegetables, both were the highlight of the dish in my opinion. Overall, I think Little Egypt had great service but forgettable food. I do think there are other restaurants with similar dishes that pack more flavor. Maybe we should have listened to the waitress when she recommended the lamb chops, as it is their most popular dish.

Totally came here after reading Daniel’s Review of the Day! And… it definitely did not disappoint! Loved all the Egyptian murals all over their walls, it felt like a getaway from Kansas City. Big fan of art and I applaud who ever painted these walls so beautifully. We came on a Friday night, but luckily it was not busy. Our waitress answered all my sill questions and trust me I have a lot whenever I’m not familiar with what I am eating! She was super nice and very honest about what she thought of the food whether it be good or bad, which was good since other servers elsewhere would try to boast about the place and food that they serve. We started off with the famous stuffed Grape leaves… unfortunately I personally didn’t care much for them. The leavers tasted great, but the inside was mushy and too sour for me. Although the cucumber dip that they paired with it helped mask the taste, making it more tolerable for me. I also didn’t fancy their pita bread, it was too dry and just not warm and fresh like other Mediterranean places that is similar to Egyptian cuisine. I was about to just get their chicken sandwich with fries to play it safe, but after I inquired about their daily special being Curry Chicken, I decided to go for their special instead. Thank goodness, they had that daily special, because that was literally the saving grace of my dinner that could have ended on a sour note! The curry chicken was succulent and had a good balance between sour and salty. The curry chicken is not like Indian or Asian curry that are creamy, this particular dish had a broth like consistency that was quite delicious since creamy can also make for a heavy dish. The bowl of curry has one large chicken drumstick and chopped tomatoes in it. It came with a large portion of rice and grilled veggies on top. Oh man the whole dish from the veggies to the curry to the rice were all seasoned perfectly! Delicious!!! They have lunch buffets for only $ 7.99…if the rest of the food taste just like the curry chicken then I will definitely be coming back to check it out! Try this place and give your taste buds a vacation from the norm, you won’t regret it! Happy Eating!

Ordered delivery tonight and incredibly impressed with the speed and customer service. The owner delivered my food personally and asked me repeatedly to call him with my feedback on the food(which I will happily do). We ordered the veggie combo appetizer and the chicken kebab plate. Very pleased with both. Spanakopita was really good and all of the sauces(especially the yogurt-dill) were terrific. Loved the hummos and fresh pita bread as well. Our chicken was moist and flavorful, our veggies cooked to a perfect crisp. Reviews on this place are mixed lately. The owner told me he took over months ago and, judging by what I’ve read here, it looks like maybe he got off to a rocky start. From what I can tell, though, he’s pretty committed to improving. Will definitely order in again, and I’m looking forward to their upcoming expanded menu.

I have never been here before with the«old ownership.» That being said… We have been here 5 times… Ordered the SAME thing each time. And we like it. The wait staff is always friendly and courteous. The management/owner is nice in a funny/pervy kind of way. Whenever he is there he asks us about our dining experience. As with most restaurants, they have much pride in their establishment and hopefully it does not skew their ability to be better daily. Which should be every establishments motto. We get the $ 19.99 platter… It has EVERY meat they serve and LOTS of it. Lamb they have is very succulent and tasty! The chicken isnt dry and seasoned to perfection. They say it will feed 5 – 6 hungry people… False… It will feed 5 – 6 hungry hipsters who need to fit into girl jeans… Realistically it will feed 3 hungry people max or 4 drunk people with 2 appetizers. They give you more on the platter if you are dining in. Weve gotten take out and its been less. I think due to the platter compared to the boxes. The hummos and Baba Ghanouge pretty good… Not like Im an expert! Value and Taste you cant beat.

This update is tough for me to write. Little Egypt was our favorite place when we lived in Westport but after multiple ownership and management changes, it’s just not the same. They no longer have daily homemade specials, and the quantity and quality of their food is not on par with what we’re used to. On our last visit(and by that I mean both our most recent and LAST visit) we were extremely disappointed in our appetizer order of baba ganoush. We got our food to go and didn’t realize there was a problem until we got home. When we opened the styrofoam container, we just sort of stared at it in disbelief for a few seconds. I finally said what my fiancé’ and I were both thinking: «That cost $ 5!?» The puny helping left us feeling ripped off. Being the recovering nerd that I am, I decided to weigh the order, to better describe our dissatisfaction. Even with the container, it weighed half an ounce. If you’ll indulge me in going through some basic math: $ 5/half an oz. = $ 10⁄1 oz. = $ 160 A POUND! That’s $ 160/lb for eggplant, olive oil, and lemon juice. The two young girls who were working the register that night were perplexed by our frustration(granted, they both admitted to woking there less than a week): «Uh, so, do you want more or do you want your money back?». At that point, I recall my fiancé’ sighing audibly and explaining we want our money back. It’s not that this was the first or only such instance of something like this happening since the new managers took over. This was just the most egregious. Believe me, this not a review I wanted to write. But unfortunately, the new managers/owners have ruined a place I used to love. It was nice knowing ya, Little Egypt.

When this place first opened it was great. Family style meals were the daily special. But since there is a new owner there selection is VERY limited The service was still great. Felt sorry for the kid serving us not really having much he could recommend.

The Beef Shawerma Sandwich I had here was okay. As were the fries. I was looking for more flavor… I do not expect subtlety in middle eastern cuisine. I don’t think anyone is going to be too disappointed, but there are many places to go for middle eastern food in town that are just flat out better than this place. Jerusalem Café, Holy Land Café, Habashi Grill, Papu’s, Marbel Top Café are just some I can name right off the top of my head. The service was excellent.

Used to love this place. I guess the restaurant was sold to a new owner just a week before our last visit. The staff is nice, that is the only reason why they’re receiving 2 stars. First off, we arrived at 5PM and ordered immediately. There were 2 tables in the entire restaurant. My food arrived 20 minutes after my wife received her food. Luckily, I don’t mind staring at her for 20 minutes while she eats. I ordered the lamb chop and she ordered the gyro. The gyro was lacking and didn’t have much meat. The lamb chop was disappointing at best. Don’t believe the picture you see on Unilocal.I received 3 paper think lamb shanks(less than ½ inch thick) over rice. The menu also shrinked to 1 page.

I’m having to comb through over reviews to make sure I got the right place. There’s no way this is worthy of the 5 star rating. I popped in here for a quick lunch and it was on par with a street wrap that you would get in New York at triple the price. I asked if they could serve some pita/hummus and they said no, despite the fact that they had pita and hummus together on the sandwich I ordered(falafel sandwich). Aside from that, it was a skinny sandwich with barely any hummus and the pita was cold. Also, I got a look at the buffet for the sake of reviewing and there was a tray of extremely dried out, generic looking chicken shriveled up as if it had been out for days. I am glad I tried it to confirm that this is a place I would never go back to.

I love trying new places, especially Middle Eastern. A friend had suggested this venue for lunch, so I checked it out on Unilocal of course. Wow! Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. I walked in and the place was devoid of customers except for one table at lunch. I was greeted by one of the kitchen staff informally and then an apathetic waitress approached me and steered me to the buffet. It didn’t look appetizing at all! There was one fillet of fish left, watery looking hummus, some chicken wings, some cheesy looking sort of pasta, and perhaps another item or two. Yes, the price for the buffet was quite good for the amount of food, but I’m after quality NOT quantity! I asked for a menu. I think that took her a bit aback as she mentioned several times that we could do the buffet instead and I think she hinted that it came with drinks included. I ordered the gyro sandwich with the fries. It was a large serving and I did go home quite full. However, the sandwich was pretty bland(I’m glad they brought hot sauce as that helped a little bit). The fries were seasoned quite well, but were nothing to write home about. The waitress provided decent service(keeping out waters full at all times), not pestering us for dessert or to leave after we paid the bill, and offered to get us more ketchup(anticipating my need). FYI, it has plastic table-cloths. Annoying, but effective I suppose. I support it gives it a bit of a divey atmosphere. All in all, you do get a lot of value for the price you pay(huge portions), but the quality isn’t great at all. I can buy bland food elsewhere. Habashi House dances circles around you folks!

I’ve been a big fan of this Egyptian restaurant in Downtown Kansas City. A good friend who had lived in Egypt referred to this restaurant as not the best in terms of what he’s had abroad, but it is the best of all those he’s tried in the U.S. The restaurant is easy to find driving down Broadway. The interior is large, sunny, spacious, and colorfully decorated with large murals, cultural artifacts, and wooden floors. I usually don’t see many customers. The food takes some time to arrive but each time service has been personable and friendly. Appetizers: Hummos($ 4.99): Smooth, thick pureed chickpeas with a sweet tahini surge to add to a mix of velvety olive oil, squeeze of lemon, and spicy hot sauce. Outstanding. They were served with a basket of warm homemade pita bread that was thick, soft, and super fluffy. I always ask for additional servings of pita because it is the best I have ever had. Baba Ghanouge($ 4.99): Grilled eggplant pureed with tahini sauce flavored with lemon juice and olive oil. I liked the eggplant but my friend also noticed too much Hummos was mixed into this dish. Not recommended. Stuffed Grape Leaves($ 3.99): Stuffed with rice, tomato, onion, and parsley cooked with lemon juice and olive oil. The texture of the grape leaves was too soft and chewy. I also didn’t particularly like the presence of tomato sauce in a cold dish. Not recommended. Entrees: Lamb Chops($ 13.99): Four huge pieces of well-seasoned lamb chops slow charbroiled and served with rice, grilled onions, peppers, and parsley. I asked for the lamb cooked medium rare and it come out tender, flavorful, juicy, and easy to chew. The humongous serving of rice was buttery with good separation. Delicious. Lamb Shank($ 10.99): Here’s another personal favorite. They serve the biggest lamb shank that usually comes with a dose of marrow to add to the meat falling off the bone and generous portion of rice. I also loved the seasoning to complement the garlic and tomato sauce. Recommended. Hummos with Beef Shawerma($ 7.49): This is a nice alternative for those not craving for rice. The shawerma was nicely seasoned and served on a delicious bed of hummos. The additional pita was handy for this dish. Dessert: Kunafa($ 4.99): Kataifi dough, rose water, cinnamon, lemon, cheese. It had the consistency of bread pudding. I loved it. Rice Pudding($ 3.99): This dessert came with rice, sweet milk, and a touch of cinnamon flavor. The quality was diminished during the last visit but it can be outright delicious when freshly made. Overall, customers can expect large portions, well seasoned meat dishes, good prices, and friendly service. I hope to return to try their kabab plates and more of those delicious pita.

I love trying different cuisines and when my friend told me that there was an Egyptian Café close to where she live, I was instantly interested. My boyfriend and I walked over to Little Egypt Café with my friend and her boyfriend and although the place looked cute from the outside, the inside was a whole different story. I don’t know what was wrong with the place but it was extremely smoky in the restaurant. It was so bad that you could actually SEE the smoke in front of your eyes and to make it worse it was SUPER stuffy. A few windows really could have gone a long way here. The chairs were impossibly uncomfortable and the tables were sticky too. Not good at all. I was hoping the food would be better so I kept my mouth shut. We ordered some Hummus and this other dish which came with cubed Feta Cheese, Tomatoes, and a TON of cumin. Both dishes came with some hot pita bread. The hummus was solid and the feta tomato dish was good when it wasn’t smothered in Cumin. For our entrees, my boyfriend and I ordered the Chicken Kabob Sandwich with a side salad and the Beef Shawarma Sandwich with fries. The salad and Chicken Kabob sandwich were fine but nothing special. However, the Shawarma was BORDERLINE inedible. I don’t know how much salt they put on it, but it was disgustingly salty. I was hungry though so I just shoved it in my mouth and swallowed. To make things worse, the servers messed up my order when I was trying to pay. Combined with the smokey environment, tacky murals on the walls, and the overly salty food, I don’t see how anyone that have tasted Mediterranean food before could bear to eat here. 1⁄5

I’m writing to you from my food coma, I’m not sure how my hands are even moving because I ate to much here over lunch. When I walked in the waiter greeted me from across the room, the environment is very quite. The decorations give a very authentic feel. I wasn’t scared that I was going to see a mummy but the whole wall was painted with Egypt type stuff. I ordered my food and my drink at the same time. I would have taken this as «Hey this guy has been here before» but later during checkout the waiter asked how my first visit was, somehow he knew, maybe he’s a pharaoh and has telekinesis. He also was very friendly and prompt with everything and seemed to know most of the people coming into the restaurant. Points for the waiter. I started with the stuffed grape leaves. These were different but pretty awesome. Its more like a wrap(how can you stuff a leaf?) I would say and inside is rice and tomatoes. It was a great balance of something new to eat but still familiar enough not to be scared. Also ordered the Beef Shawarma which was very good as well. A pita bread housing an arsenal of marinated beef, hummus, tomatoes and tahini. Very good, the contrast of hot beef and cold toppings made each bite exiting. I used my Unilocal check-in to get a free baklava and didn’t eat it till I got back to work. I split it with a coworker because I had already ate so much I was super stuffed and really just wanted to try it out. Well, that was a huge mistake cause this baklava will make your baby momma get turnt up tonight. It was amazing, and a great ending to an epic lunch.

we headed back for dinner tonight after the owner personally contacted me, concerned that we had a less than wonderful experience the last time we were there. we ordered the mixed veggie appetizer to start(hummus, baba ghanoush, stuffed grape leaves and falafel). everything was wonderful — probably the best baba ghanoush I’ve ever had! I also love grape leaves again after a few bad experiences when we were in Turkey. for dinner, my husband ordered the Lamb Shank(he was so excited to see this on the menu) and I ordered the Little Egypt Grill with a combination of gyro meat, chicken kebabs and a kifta kabob. everything had a unique and wonderful flavor and the hot sauce and tahini are perfect complements. there was a massive amount of rice to have plenty to enjoy with my leftovers(even after my husband also enjoyed a little of each!!) the owner made sure we were taken care of to make up for our poor experience last time. what a difference good service makes! we will definitely be returning!

I’ve been to Little Egypt a couple of times and each time has been great. I’m always in search of a good gyro sandwich and this place has the best I’ve had in a loooooooong time. The flavor is spot on. I’ve had both the chicken kabob pita and the gyro sandwich and I’d easily recommend both. The service is outstanding. The owner is usually there and he always welcomes you like you’re his best buddy. He never forgets to remember me. The first time I was there we had a group of 20 medical students after our exam and he came and chit chatted with us and gave us all free Baklava since it was our first time visiting. Another time I came in I brought a friend who had never been before and again, he gave us Baklava on the house since it was her first time there and I guess since I brought her in. Overall, the best gyro in town, great service, and all for a great price(~$ 7.50 with tax and includes fries! Or a salad).

Bought a Groupon to a place I never knew was existed. Man, glad we did! If you’ve never had stuffed grape leaves — go and try them. Yes you can eat the leaves. The falafel was oh so scrumptious. The humus was very flavorful and who can go wrong with warm pita bread. That was just the appetizer… Baklava is typically too rich for me but theirs was not. How is that possible? I’m not sure but we bought a piece to take home so we could try it again!

I stopped by for a late lunch. At first, I wasn’t sure if they were open for lunch. It was eerily quiet and empty. I ordered the stand-by gyro sandwich with a side of hummus. The gyro itself was quite tasty. The meat wasn’t sliced but cubed. The spices were on par and the tzatziki was punchy. The veggies were mixed in with the meat not just a few slices of onion, tomato and lettuce. That was a nice surprise. I was really disappointed with the hummus. It didn’t have much flavor. Plus we received a double order because my squeeze ordered hummus on the side too. If that’s a double order, I would hate to see the side order. The amount of hummus served was tiny. Personally, I think the prices are high when comparing the same entrees at other restaurants in the area. The gyro saved my lunch from being a 2 star experience. It was a star on it’s own.
