Most Sunday mornings we lie around, discussing brunch, but we never really get out of the house in time to make it worthwhile. For once, though, we actually woke up with a game plan, and the name of that game plan was One80. After reading all of the good reviews on Unilocal and making myself drool with One80’s online menu, we were sold. So, off we went, arriving at about 11:45am. It was moderately busy, but we were seated right away. There are a LOT of good options on the menu. We quickly decided to split an order of Drunken Donuts, but I was really torn between breakfast and lunch options, and usually I’m more of a lunch kind of girl(so that’s saying something for the breakfast). After a lot of indecision, since we already started with donuts, I did decide to go with breakfast, so I ordered the Wild Mushroom Sausage Frittata, and my husband got the Sicilian Scramble. I liked that there were a lot of different options — there seems to be something for pretty much everyone here, and some«inventive» things that I’d like to try. AND they have truffle fries, which is a current obsession of mine. I sort of wish I had gotten them on my last visit, but really, that would’ve been taking gluttony to a whole new level. Service was quick, and our server kept up a nice flow. We didn’t have to wait long at all for the donuts to arrive at the table, piping hot, with a cup of some of the tastiest dipping«sauce» I could’ve imagined. The Grand Marnier hot chocolate was not terribly sweet, which was a perfect combination with the donuts, generously covered in powdered sugar. I confess, I did taste some of the hot chocolate on its own, and actually considered drinking what was left over, until I realized that might be a bit less than dignified. The frittata and scramble were huge, and served with a generous portion of potatoes. Our server brought ketchup without us needing to ask for it, which gave him extra points. We both enjoyed our food, and I was unable to finish all of mine, it was that large. My husband did say that his scramble was fairly onion-y, so I wouldn’t have been a fan(I tend to pick onions out of things), but he really enjoyed it. I quite liked the ambiance of One80, and was a particular fan of the exposed brick walls and the beams around the bar. I could definitely see myself coming in for a drink, but also can understand how other reviewers said it has a couple of different vibes. I’d probably rather come here for a drink and dinner, pre-going out, than for a night of adult beverages, but that’s me. When we left, we were thanked by the hostess and the bartenders, which was nice. It’s always good to be acknowledged as you’re leaving(and entering) a business. We’re definitely going to be back, probably very soon.

I feel like one80 has two different vibes: one for during the day and early evening, when it functions like a restaurant, and another for later when it’s really just a bar. And thus I’m giong to review it slightly separately. As a restaurant, it’s good. The flatbreads are delicious, and you really can’t do better than roquefort dip and chips… their salads are good but not incredible, with fresh but not particularly interesting combinations of things. Beer and wine-wise it’s not the largest selection under the sun, but as one of the sisters of McCoy’s and the Foundry, it’s also not half bad. The drinks that come along with are good, although like many bars, the cocktails on the menu are less inspired than those you get if you talk to one of the bartenders. And this brings me to the bar scene. So as part of the McCoy’s team, one would think one80 would translate into nightspot better, but the space just doesn’t cater to it. And they’ve tried a variety of methods, and I haven’t seen anything successful up to this point. Yes, if you sit at the bar, and chat up the charming bartenders, you’ll have a good time. But behind you will also be some sort of slightly awkward situation involving karaōke(on Wednesdays) or DJs(on weekends). Some people might be dancing uncertainly in the middle of the long, narrow room, while others stand around. Some might sit(or pass out) in the booths that provide most of the restaurant seating. But mostly, it’s a strange atmosphere, and it’s like it hasn’t hit its bar stride. I recommend it wholeheartedly for an earlier drink before going to one of the sister establishments across the street, or Harry’s, or the like. But as a way to spend most of your night out, or definitely to end your night out, it’s not what I would select. I’m also not saying I have a reason for or solution to the problem– it just becomes a sort of awkward space after about 10 or 11PM, earlier on a weeknight. I’ve heard amazing things about brunch, and I will admit I like anywhere with a kitchen that’s open this late. But it’s just not quite enough.

One80 is hands down(why not hands up?) my favorite restaurant in Westport, though my best Westport bar honors would go to Harry’s. Upon entering, there is no host/hostess stand. A waiter/waitress will usually promptly direct you to a seat, but they seem not to care if you seek out your own(i.e. you can avoid unnecessary, awkward lemming-like standing around at the entrance). Be weary where you sit in the late afternoon, the restaurant’s windows are situated on the west, so the sunlight beams can become a little Raiders of the Lost Ark on you. The waitstaff is usually excellent. My brother and I once left Californos(we were seated and then ignored for fifteen minutes) for One80, and received great service instantly. The waitstaff is supremely better than the sister-restaurants of McCoy’s and The Foundry. The atmosphere at One80 is chill, a little lounge-like. It is conducive to taking anyone, and I’ve gone with my girlfriend, brothers, parents, etc; however, I don’t think I’ve ever seen children at the restaurant. An educated guess is they have no children’s menu, and I would think McCoy’s might be a better option for a family. The food is speedy(though I had one lethargic Sunday brunch, where the pace of life and arrival of food were one-in-the-same; the astute bartender noticed and kindly provided us some free drunken doughnuts). I love the Veggie Portabella Gyros(two pitas stuffed with portabella mushrooms, feta, and red onions), Five Cheese Gnocchi(little dumplings in a creamy cheese sauce), and the Bruschetta Chicken Caesar Salad(be weary, I’ve ordered this salad a few times and the vegetables were room temperature, instead of cold). Drink-wise they have a normal bar selection and McCoy’s beer too. If you order the hot tea, it comes in a small tea pot with a timer for steeping the tea. They also have descent hot and cold cocktail list. The most interesting is the Oral Fixation(Stoli, Pucker, and Sierra Mist), that has a glass rim lined with pop rocks(awesome right?).

One80 gives vegetarians options. Like all restaurants should! Converting to the vegetarian lifestyle over a year ago I finally woke up with the the overwhelming craving for biscuits and gravy. I checked Unilocal, read some reviews, and decided that we should try One80. We were up early and saw they had brunch starting at 10. So I sucked down some coffee and told my stomach that the wait would be worth it. I had the Biscuits & Gravy in Mushroom sauce, Potatoes, and a Cajun Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary came out first and a lava demon couldn’t have mixed it better. Spicy and thick just the way I like it. The biscuits and gravy were not the best I’ve ever had, but I was able to look past it because of the sheer fact they served it. I felt they could have used some more gravy. Maybe next time I’ll ask for extra. The potatoes were some of the best I’ve ever had. My wife ordered the veggie frittata and she had to fend me off because I couldn’t stop stealing it off her plate. The service was excellent! The server was polite and informative. The host asked us if we needed anything, and the chef even came out to ask how our meal was. The lunch/dinner menu also has several great options. I would probably eat out more if all restaurants followed suit. More importantly though, my stomach would stop yelling at me.

One80 Located in the heart of Westport. One80 Lounge is sophisticated and sexy. The décor is urban chic with aged brick and wood with modern lighting and accents. It is classy with upscale bar food and entrée’s with an extensive drink menu. We were there a few months ago and had these amazing Praline Cheese Truffles. These little gems consist of goat cheese, rosemary, pecans and honey. Their menu is extensive from small plates to full entrée’s and breakfast is served on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. It is a great place to go with friends and share the small and not so small plates and that is exactly what we did. In addition to the Praline Cheese Truffles we had the Tuscan Steak Kabobs, the Chips and Dip, the White Bean Hummus and the Three Cheese Gnocchi(my favorite)!

Another fabulous find for brunch with decent vegetarian options, like the ultra decadent biscuits and gravy(don’t worry, they have a normal sausage version, too). This is an *enormous* portion, so you’re best off sharing it(I did). Hell, three people can share these yummy belly bombs, as they serve you three enormous biscuits smothered in a mushroom gravy. Heavens! Soooo, I wish I had ordered a side salad instead of the veggie burger. Wait, no I don’t. Why? Because this is easily the best veggie burger I’ve had in town. I couldn’t even manage a bite of it at brunch(too busy scarfing down the perfect shoestring fries that came with), so I took it home and enjoyed it cold for dinner. They serve it with sprouts, tomato and yay, avocado slices! If eggy brunches are more your thing, they have a vegetable frittata. Two sweet options included the drunken donuts(served with a Grand Marnier sauce) and a positively sultry French toast. Our server was perfect, attentive, friendly, despite this being the height of the brunch rush. I’ve saved the best for last… in this review, that is. Have no doubt as I sat my a$$ in the chair, I ordered up a Cajun Mary, extra spicy. It did not disappoint! Wait, that’s an understatement. Their bloody is up there with the best of ‘em, previously enjoyed in brunch spots all over the country. Rimmed with celery salt, garnished with a giant olive and half of a jalapeño, I’d be tempted to forget ordering food, if it wasn’t all so damn good.

I had brunch here and it was different. I had the Sicilian scramble and it felt like I was eating a Mediterranean pizza on an egg. I liked it. The caesar salad was not impressive. How can you do a caesar salad wrong? Anyway, the menu had it listed at $ 3.99 and the waiter charged us about $.50 more. Not trying to be a stickler, but I wanted to point out the mistake in the system and clearly point out the discrepency between the receipt and the menu.(Hey, who knows? what if someone orders 200 caesar salads, that $.50 adds up… or if you are Russel Peters two caesar salads gives you $ 1 and one dolla a lot of money) He said he would take care of it but he came back saying he couldn’t find his manager. Annoyed. I calculated 15% tip from the total and deducted $.50. If he only got it changed he would have gotten 20% tip.

I love their Power Lunch deal: innovative, tasty food at a good price. The bartender/manager on duty at lunch is always great to chat with and provides great service. I really like this place and plan to bring friends and clients.

One80 has a great atmosphere in a really good location. We decided to share a veggie pizza which we were not that impressed with but they saved face with their Drunken Donuts. OH. MY. GAA. The staff was friendly enough, though didn’t go out of their way. That was fine because we weren’t any any hurry. We plan to try it again and order some other things. maybe on a happy hour since I hear they have a great one. Fun place. We will be back. Even if only for drunken drinks and donuts.

One 80 will forever have my love because they serve vegetarian biscuits and gravy for brunch. Ever since I gave up the meat, the one thing I have probably missed the most has been biscuits and gravy. There is nothing in this world that can cure a hangover more effectively. In fact, I wish that one 80 would go ahead and start serving these bad boys late at night so I could eat them before I went to bed. Mmmm biscuits and gravy. Thursday nights and during happy hour they have 2.00 domestic beers. This is the best drinking deal in KC, because they count McCoy’s brews and Boulevard as being«domestics.» Which make sense, since they are brewed so close to the bar. DJs are pretty good here too. One night they had some awful acoustic duo that sung horrible 90s alterna-soft-rock. I didn’t like that very much, but it really didn’t matter after a few 2.00 beers. I always have a good time here, and I am sorry to hear that people have had bad experiences with service here. It can be a little pokey, but I’ve never had any problems other than that.

Short and sweet review. Two things stood out to me about this bar(in a positive way). 1. The service. If you’ve read my other reviews, you’ll notice this is a theme in a lot of them. I think the quality of service can make or break a place. It was definitely good here. My boyfriend and I met some friends here on a Thursday night after a concert at Beaumont. My boyfriend ordered drinks from the bar and we sat down in a booth. The rest of the night we didn’t have to get up to order drinks, the server came around to our table(and wasn’t pushy either.) When I asked for cherries with one of my drinks(that didn’t come with them) he brought back a whole bunch for me on a plate at no charge. I thought that was awesome. He also remembered that I preferred my hot chocolate sans whipped cream. In general the staff were friendly, and they made tasty drinks! 2. They served hot alcoholic beverages. I get cold easily, and I was absolutely freezing the night we went there. I ordered a raspberry hot chocolate, which was hot chocolate that had a couple types of alcohol in it, including chambord. It tasted AMAZING. It’s hard(for me at least) to find places that serve good quality hot drinks. And by drinks I mean alcoholic drinks. There was even a variety of different kinds to choose from. Coffees, teas, hot chocolates, etc. That hot chocolate really made my night. This bar hit two of my sweet spots. 4 stars. I’d definitely go back again.

OK. I can’t help it. One80 deserves my most recently updated fifth star. The amount of times I’ve been here in the past month prompted me to write on. The $ 8 lunch special(choice of 2 items from a list of sandwiches, soups, salads and flatbreads plus a perfectly portioned small dessert) is STUPIDCHEAPDELICIOUS. Both times I’ve come in for this delight of a deal, I’ve had the vegetarian(!) artichoke bisque(chunks of artichokes, onion and tomato in a velvety broth flecked with parsley… foodgasm, oh my) and the mix salad(Greek) or Veggie flatbread. The flatbread’s size as an add-on to an $ 8 lunch special was just ludicrous. Huge. Monday is taco night and a pitcher of(relatively strong for the price) house mojitos is $ 10. 3 tacos are $ 6. This is one of the very few places with delicious veggie tacos: Portabellas, red and green onion, pico, cheese with two tasty salsas(tomatillo and fire roasted tomato… I believe.) rounding it out. Other taco choices are shrimp, chicken or beef and chorizo. Drinks here are always on point. Grapes of Wrath is always a favorite, and more traditional drinks are poured with a heavy hand. Service can run about 3.5 stars, as I’ve encountered some who obviously don’t want to be there. But honestly? The sheer tastiness and value of all that is One80 has made me a huge fan.

I was in Kansas City for the weekend and wanted to coordinate a get-together brunch with some of my long-lost friends. A friend suggested one 80 and after looking at the brunch menu, I agreed. I called Saturday evening and made reservations for nine people the next day(although I didn’t need to make them because it was pretty dead). The person over the phone was very nice and the table and setting was pleasant. It’s a really pretty restaurant, in my opinion. I had a few different drinks and ordered the french toast and smoked bacon and thought it was all very delicious(and very filling). I think I left spending around $ 20-$ 25. My biggest problem was with our service. Our waitress would not take drink orders, screw up drink orders, forget drink orders and generally acted very annoyed with anything having to do with drinks. Actually, she acted very annoyed about everything. I was not impressed. One of my friends ordered six fireflys(he has a high tolerance AND was splitting them with his boyfriend). When she brought the sixth drink, she loudly announced to the table that it would be his last firefly for the day. My friend was not driving home and was not being obnoxious or causing problems that would call for him to be «cut off.» She was extremely rude about it and it really left a bad taste in my mouth. I’ll go back to One80 again, but if the service is just as bad I think I’ll try to find another brunch place. The food is good, but not worth being treated like crap.

BEWARE. I know that times are tough in the restaurant business, but unless you want other restaurants similarly to be nickel and diming you to death with surprise upcharges, you should not put up with the policies of this restaurant’s current management(which in my opinion should be replaced as soon as possible). This restaurant evidently has the same ownership as McCoy’s and The Foundry across the street. But the management is another story. One80 has some of the most comfortable booth seating in Westport and excellent service. I enjoyed the food that I ordered and ate in the restaurant, was impressed by the service, and liked the atmosphere and the booth. As a result, I also then ordered more food to go for the next day’s lunch. It was brought out rapidly along with the bill that included a 50 cent upcharge for packaging the food to go. I’ve never heard of that«to go» charge before — anywhere in the world. When I complained, I was told that they would remove the charge. But I am not willing to encourage that kind of behavior. I refused to accept the take-out food and insisted that they remove it from the bill and trash the food. They did so. Don’t order take-out food here, and don’t put up with that sort of trickery. Who knows what they’ll think up next? While airlines might be able to get away with such surprise new charges, restaurants cannot. We have too many other choices.

Stopped in one80 for a drink about 10:30p on Sat night to find it surprisingly absent. Nonetheless, we grabbed a few open stools at the bar and knew we were going to have some variation of sweet tea vodka cocktails(McCoy’s doesn’t have any). Went with a Firefly and water(boring :)) and I ordered a Firefly and lemonade. I will say the housemade lemonade here is excellent. Raspberry lemonade infused with rosemary and split with some soda. Thumbs up. The bartender was attentive and helpful with any questions, given the lack of patrons I would expect this type of service. one80 had a DJ playing some good tunes, just the right speed and volume. I would expect this place to be able to handle a bigger crowd if the public provided it. I go with a 4pack of stars here and will be back for another Arnold Palmer variation.

I found this restaurant on the internet and figured the prices were right and the food sounded good. boy was I wrong it was GREAT and l must give a shout out to the wait staff for the excellent service. I had bruschetta as an appetizer and«melt in your mouth» lobster ravioli as my main dish, and I can’t wait to return for brunch. I would give this five stars but will need to return to make sure that the restaurant maintains consistency on service and food. I will return in the near future!

Back in the day when I used to work in the Westport/Plaza area, I used to come to One80 for Happy Hour on a very regular basis. Why wouldn’t you, as it’s frickin AWESOME! Beers or mixed drinks for only $ 2.00 is awesome, though i thought it was a lot cuter in the past when it cost $ 1.80. Oh well, what can you do? The bar staff is awesome! Really friendly, remembers your name and your drink. Back in the glory days when you could smoke in bars, they were always there with a lighter and there was no such thing as a dirty asstray. Oh, memories… The floor staff isn’t my favorite, and I’ve had some bad experiences with them, but what can you do? Though the time they spilled both a martini and a glass of wine on me, 30 minutes apart, that kinda made me cranky. Still, that joker got the boot, so I can’t hold that against them anymore. Speaking of drinks, however. I do wish that their specialty drinks weren’t all so sweet. One80 hangovers are NASTY! It’s like everything is full of grenadine or schnapps or something overly sweet, and rimmed with sugar or poprocks or godknowswhat. But I guess that might bring the ladies in, and it IS a business after all… The food is quite tasty, and I recommended checking out their Sunday brunch. The servers all wear their PJs, which i think is a fun touch. Eggs benedict are goooooooooooood! I like their pizzas, as well. Though obviously not for brunch. I changed the subject to dinner, for those struggling to keep up. One80 isn’t really my regular place in Westport, but it’s an awesome bar and good for the district. With this place, McCoys, and Foundry, the owners of these companies have really impressed me. Add Harry’s and now Firefly, and Westport has again become my favorite part of town in which to barhop.

One80 put me in one after having some pretty high expectations. Why the assumptions? It’s this dimly lit urban dwelling that seems to ooze romance and sex appeal. As others have stated, a killer spot for a date or a weekend hangout. The clientele were playful and seemed like regulars. But there weren’t many people making up the clientele, all of 4 or 5 people at around 7:00. As cool as the space seems to be, it suddenly gave off a lowly vibe further enhancing its flaws. The service was pretty awful. Our waiter came over and literally disappeared. He continued to be around, only for chatting it up with his coworkers. Even though this put a bitter taste in my mouth, he resurrected himself by giving us great tips on beer as we were about to leave. His recommendation was McCoy’s across the street! It was the purse hooks and the ambiance that helped seal the deal for me wanting to return. It’s all about the details. Women will be praising the hooks while us guys will enjoy the subdued ambiance given off by the yellowish lights that hang from the brick and mortar establishment. I’m actually anxious to return for a bump in star status.

Have you ever consumed a vodka martini and not felt a buzz afterward? Neither had I until I visited One80. I walked into this establishment with very high expectations. The atmosphere is very sexy and the lighting is dim. A great place to take a date. Our first bartender, Nancy, was great. Quick service and a good eye for detail. Our martinis were weak, but I can overlook that. After Nancy was off for the night the level of service declined rapidly. The 3 bartenders seemed more interested in grab-assing and flirting with boys than doing their job. I’m willing to try anything twice so perhaps visit number two will revamp my thinking on this place.

I went to One80 for lunch one day with a friend. The atmosphere was pretty cool and servers were very nice and friendly. The beef carpaccio was really, really yummy with greens on top. And the homemade chips with gorgonzola dip was seriously addictive. Even after I was stuffed from the meal, I kept eating it. I had some pasta with chicken that had a french name that was really good. The proportions are very reasonable so it is not overwhelming. Great place to go for a date or with friends for a fun time.
