Being an Oklahoma girl visiting KC, this is my kind of bar. We went out for a Bachelorette, and loved this place. Everyone was super friendly, and someone told us about the wristbands you can buy that purchases $ 3 wells and domestics(and one free drink I believe). Even though we didn’t utilize that offer, I think it’s an awesome option to have. Although there was a $ 5 cover on a Friday night, I think for the drink offers, it definitely evens out. Also, a perk is the bull riding is off of tips, so you don’t have to pay like $ 10 to ride. Plenty of seating, and I believe they do party reservations as well. Overall, if you like country music, with a mix of dance music, this place is for you.

I come here on a Friday night thinking I am going to listen to country music and maybe see the bull in action, all I see is no Bull and in the 5 hours I was their I heard 2 hours of bullshit rap music and another 2 hours of what they call country music. At least I heard about 5 real country music songs. Although I had a good time, if your going to call yourself a country bar don’t freaking play rap music for 2 hours on a Friday night.

Mix together a cup of corporate cheese and a tablespoon of douchbags, with a splash of trailer trash and don’t forget a dash of meatheads fighting.

Rude wait staff. When you walked in felt like we were cattle being sold and the guys were all checking us out. Will never ever go back. Very unsafe establishment. Floors need to be redone because of slippery floors and people can be hurt really bad like a girl in our group and the bar could care less. Thank goodness for the compassionate people around us! Who helped her up and made sure she was okay. The staff just walked on by thinking she was drunk when she was our DD that had just fell on their slick flooring!

Here’s the bar, summed up: They try to be the«Double Deuce»(Roadhouse) combined with any one of the douchey«VIP» bars in any town. Weird combo. In the P&L district it’s a trendy/divey kinda country bar. $ 5 cover charge at 9… not sure what for… however here’s the highs: Drinks were on the high end of affordable, cold, portioned well. Place is decorated well and looks like a cowboy bar. Have a mechanical bull if you feel like slipping a disc(okay I’m too old to be here) Servers wear assless chaps that show their underpants. Girl underpants. The lows: LOTS of security. Apparently it becomes a little punch-y later at night. MANY«VIP» areas. Kind of douchey. Apparently they desire to be a destination place for bachelorette parties and offer bottle service. At a bar with mechanical bull. The ladie’s bathroom door is propped open for some reason should you have some voyeuristic tendencies. Notes on the mechanical bull: The operator lets people win, doesn’t throw them off right away, lets them enjoy themselves, and it’s got a lot of padded areas to land. Everyone seemed like they were having fun on it and there was a line at times to ride it. Seems like if you really want to pull the full 8 seconds the operator could make it challenging for you. Not for me but I do enjoy a good country bar. PBR is too hipster for me, even in a faux country bar.

This is the kind of bar I love. Mechanical bull, laid back, dark, country music, plenty of bars… There are women dancers, etc. though.

The bull! Should i say more? The bull! I am impressed, amazed wow. I rode a mechanical bull here for the first time in my life and boy, it was so amazing i went three more times right after and even convinced my friend to do it too! Very very fun. They also had some country band play, im generally not a fan of country, but when there are stable walls, men in cowboy hats and a mechanical bull, country — bring it on. This place makes me like country music, how crazy is that? Such a cool atmosphere, a bit divey, but insanely fun. I would go here again and again. The bull is super fun. Try it if you’re here :) If i lived in Kansas City i think i’d frequent this spot quite a lot.

When going to the Power & Light District, this is where I have the most fun. Everywhere is overpriced, as well as this bar, but I enjoy the country music and all the craziness that goes with it. I however, hate how crowded it gets. It’s literally chest to chest on some nights and it drives me insane. Do you really need that many people in one bar? It makes me go crazy when I can’t get to the bar and it takes like 20 minutes just to get a refill. I’ve been when there are live bands and they are usually pretty fun. The mechanical bull is everyone’s go to so everyone I have gone with at least rides it once. It’s fun to go with a group of people, but if you separate… you may never find them in there again.

California girl on a visit for an Army ball and I came to the Power & Light District after. I absolutely loved this place. The girls are super cute. The bartenders are great as well. I ordered a Jameson neat and it was filled half way for $ 5. Holy hell! The Midwest is awesome! Drinks are cheaper out here than back in LA. On a different note: the lines for the bathroom weren’t bad at all! I hope to visit Kansas City again soon!

This place could have gotten a lot better score if it wasn’t for: 1. We were charged for drinks we never ordered 2. We could have gotten the guy who sets up the mechanical bull to actually do that instead of sit in the back with his feet up This was an early stop for us so we didn’t have to pay cover, it was just getting crowded when we ended up leaving. The concept looked fun and I enjoy country music, so it could be fun. Good thing we weren’t wasted though because when we got our tabs were were charged for extra drinks(I would hate to think that happens a lot since most people probably aren’t sober enough to realize it) and then we checked our statements and there are two charges pending… hmm. That just sucks. Secondly, we wanted to try out the mechanical bull because I think that would be hilarious, but when we asked the guy if we could do it, he said ok, but then sat in the back for an hour with his feet up, so we just ended up leaving. It could have been a lot better but it just majorly disappointed.

There’s a time and a place for everything, and when the time is «wasted out of your mind at a bachelor party,» the place more often than not will be the P&L Live Block. Now, this is absolutely not my scene, but of all of the places we went, I enjoyed PBR the most. Let’s be clear, I enjoy PBR in a «Carnival of Horrors» type way. If you want to drink cheap beer in a packed room, listening to REALLY loud country music while one friend rides a mechanical bull while the other makes out with a drunk chick, this is the place to be! It’s the antithesis of everything I ever want to do, but knowing that it was a bachelor party, and i was going all-in, I let it all just flow over me. Basically, if you’re the absolute opposite person as me, you might enjoy this place un-ironically. I, however, had an absolute blast of a night being Bizarro Matt. Thanks PRB, I’ll see you in another 5 years.

Muffin top mania. Ride the bull after you’ve had enough liquid courage, and it’s muffins for all. I have been to this place a handful of times, each time because someone else drags me in there. It seems like there’s a line at the door pretty regularly, although I’m not sure why. Probably only go here if you favor Levi’s and/or want a guy wearing $h!t kickers to try to make out with you every time you turn around.

not a big country fan, im from California, and one of my co-workers is a big time singer so when they did kareoke with a live band he was all over it. The electric bull is pretty cool kinda money the girls who work there(in underwear and chaps) never got bucked off at full speed. I enjoyed it and everything the Power and Light district offered

I was really disappointed when I went last Saturday. I’m not sure I know many bull riders who’d actually like Big Sky. It was crowded, had dirty bathrooms, and I saw more muffin-top than I’d like. Also, they only played country every three songs or so. Do NOT think this is going to be your country bar in the city. However, if you’re going to have a couple of beers and laugh at people who attempt to ride the bull, go for it.

If you like Country music, girls in chaps and red undies, this is your go-to. You get a wide range of age group of people. Music starts off as country and as the night progress, it goes to mainstream dance music, which is kinda weird, you gotta admit — watching 50 year old man in country hat dancing to beyonce. One unique thing about this place is that they have a mechanical bull. the people who work there are amazingly good at it. One guy actually stood on the mechanical bull and didn’t fall off regardless of the motions. It’s pretty entertaining to watch people literally get thrown off the bull. Especially those who think that they are really good at it, they always seemed surprised when they fall off. :P I do not like that men there think they can smack any girls’ butt. Some women don’t mind it, which i know encourages those men’s behavior. But seriously, keep those hands to yourself — especially when you look old enough to be my dad… TIP: Get there before 9pm so you can avoid standing in line.

I’ve been going here for almost as long as it’ has been open, around a year and a half. EASILY of the top 3 busiest bars in Power & Light, and for good reason… there’s ALWAYS something to do! Between listening to live local AND Top 40 country stars, dancing on the large dance floor, or riding NORMAN, the mechanical bull — center stage of the place … there’s plenty going on! 3 full bars to fill your cup, half a dozen shot girls to keep ya entertained(especially when dancing table-top, happy hour specials, after work specials, VIP seating and gooood music:) to boot. If you can’t have a good time here, ya just don’t know how;)

I had been avoiding going to this bar ever since I moved to Kansas City; it’s a country-western bar and I have found that sometimes the people that come with country music aren’t my most favorite people to be around. Sometimes! The waitresses wear chaps with only underwear underneath and have cut-off shirts. The waitresses did some line dancing on the tables; they were very attractive. I’m sure this is why most of the men come here. That, and for the mechanical bull. Watching drunk girls ride that mechanical bull provided a great source of entertainment for me and my friends. Don’t get me wrong, I could probably never stay on that thing even if I hadn’t been drinking, but I just don’t think that alcohol and an erratic bull make the best mix for my stomach and my head. We left after the bachelorette we were with(it was kind of an impromptu bachelorette party) rode the bull. I would say that I probably won’t come here again unless I’m with someone that I’m with really wants to go here. I didn’t hate it, it just isn’t really my scene.

Wow, I had the opposite experience as Erin… I LOVEDDDDDDDDPBR!!! Admittedly, I am a little bit of a country music fan(a little known fact amongst friends) so upon walking in here I was met with a live band playing the greatest country covers every– Garth Brooks you’re my hero!!! This place is also so cheesy to the max– re: assless chap-bikini wearing-professional bullriders, loveeee it! They also have Monster instead of redbull, in sugarfree too, so it was a nice change to add to my vodka ;) I’ll def be stopping here my next time to the P&L.

You know, I’m sure I’m not the best person to review this since 1) I hate the majority of country music, and hate the majority of people who love country music and 2) I’ve not spent more than about 20 minutes in there, since we use their side door off 13th street to stealthily sneak into P&L without waiting in line. Man, but the time I HAVE spent in here makes me glad we didn’t stick around. Blaring music… BLARING. It gave obnoxious Rock Bar a run for their money. And maybe this is just weird to me, but I’ve personally never seen a girl ride the mechanical bull here, only sweaty, overweight guys. What? I’ve been told I’ve just caught it at «off» times but what bar would really rather have tubbo in a KSU shirt on the bull than a hot chick? Even I would rather watch the girl! I have to give a 2nd star for the bartenders… great service and some of those guys are pretty cute.
