I stopped in for brunch last Sunday and had a tasty little meal. A half order of French toast and a half order of biscuits and gravy were just right and only about $ 6. There wasn’t any art hung downstairs as they must have been between shows, but the space and patio were funky and charming on their own. There was a smoked salmon and veggie bagel I might go back and get tomorrow if I can make it there before noon(that’s when they stop serving during the week).

I think we stopped in on «ass day.» Every piece of art on the walls depicted a woman’s ass. So, whether you dig the art will depend on how much you like staring at different asses. Breakfast was yummy. We had some good coffees and some egg and cheese sandwiches, which were tasty. The gallery space is cute. The patio is a little rough around the edges, but pretty charming. I liked it.

This is a cool little art gallery… and now I guess they serve food, too. The space is nice, I love all the old buildings in the crossroads. It’s right next to Grinders and the Acme Bike shop… in this epicenter of the East X-roads. They had some interesting pieces on the wall, but it was a little awkward to get to some of them as they were behind tables. Luckily there was no one eating in there at the time so I didn’t have to try to look over anyone to see the art.

This place is interesting. Imagine an art gallery/breakfast-lunch-lounge. Add a second story of art and a outside-dining-garden-type place, and you’re starting to get the picture. The food is fresh but that is not the focus. The lounging around, the quixotic company, and the modern art is the focus(although there is a huge portrait of ben franklin from the hundred dollar bill upstairs. Pencil, not so modern). If you have an extra $ 5 in your pocket, you can buy a token for the art-o-matic machine: a converted cigarrette machine before they became contraband which dispenses cigarette-sized art things. Also, upstairs they have a really spectacular washroom. I hesitate to call it a bathroom, because it really is two rooms, one for the flushing, and another for the sink but it also has a shower, I think. At any rate, they’ve filled it with art, too, so you won’t have to wash your hands staring out the window while they dry. I think they are just starting the restaurant part, so as it develops it will hopefully get a little more particular about where they are going with the food. But the art is pretty substantially established. And if you happen to make it to the bathroom upstairs, you’ll find an almost suite-like kommode, with a shower in one room, and the bathroom and sink in the other. Lots of art, too.
