Totally subjective but: Best pizza in KC!(mayyyybe neck and neck with Caddyshack) Atmosphere is … nice porch, helpful staff, on the edge of UMKC so you can watch its flavor of college life walk by. So grateful we’re inside of the limited radius for delivery of gigantic pizzas! Fairway location is just as good!

I visited here with my sister on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. I love the atmosphere here; relaxed and funky. We were greeted by a pleasant young lady who explained the menu to us and took our order. Our wait was about ten minutes. My sister raved about this place, but I was less than impressed. Yes, the crust is thin. Yes, a slice is big and easily feeds one adult. Sadly the green peppers and onions were raw… warm like a pizza, but raw.(As in not cooked; they were just warm.) Will I go back? In a heartbeat. There are so many variables in an eatery that lead to a served meal, and every place deserves a second chance. Besides, next Sunday I have company coming from Chicago and I plan on bringing them here.

Got a lovely message via Unilocal from a bro named«Connor M» with the subject line«Nope». This questionable and unprofessional message let me know that Pizza 51’s summer hours hadn’t started yet! It seems that the joint corrected their hours after my review which I appreciate. But if «Connor M» is affiliated with the restaurant then he is a very poor steward of the brand. I will probably never patronize this place again.

We have eaten here a couple of times and the food is always decent. They serve HUGE slices of pizza, so make sure you only order one to start with and go from there. The prices are good for what you get and the people working the counter are nice.

We were greeted so warmly by the woman working the counter when we walked in. She was just so polite and sweet and explained the menu to us. What a great way to start our meal– much appreciated! They aren’t kidding when they say their slices are large. They’re so big they have to slice them. Picture the biggest NYC street slice you’ve ever seen and increase it by 50%. So we trusted her when she said they’re big and each got a slice and shared bites with each other. The Canadian Bacon slice was dynamite, the plain cheese slice was perfectly flavored but could’ve used some more cheese, and while I liked how many veggies were in the veggie slice(it was absolutely piled high) it was missing something– it was just kind of flavorless and could’ve used more cheese. The crust on all 3 was amaaaaazing– hand tossed, not too thick, not too thin, and perfectly crispy. We also got an order of cheesy breadsticks while waiting for our slices to arrive– it was decent, but nothing special. Granted we were there on a busy Friday night, but this place is seriously LOUD. Definitely a great place to take young, rambunctious kids, but not good for intimate conversation. All in all, we were impressed and will definitely be back and recommend to friends.

This has to be my fifth time here and now I have a classmate who works here so I’ll be here more than I usually do. I always get the sliced 5 topping pizza for about 6 bucks. They have a happy hour of a pitcher of cheap beer I think $ 4 can’t go wrong with that. The pizza almost always never get enough cheese on it. I feel like you have to order twice extra cheese to get a decent cheesy pizza with toppings. Crust is always crispy and great. Outside and indoor seating. Service is a hit or miss as this place can get big crowds sometimes. Cooking station is open and you can watch them cook. Tvs for sports. Some décor that tells a bit of history. Even the pictures they leave at the table for your order tells some music history. Seating is ok. I find myself moving tables about to find the best fit for me. I like this place and being that it’s so close it’s my only choice. Wish there was another pizza place around I could try in walking distance.

This used to be my go to spot for gigantic slices of Pizza, but haven’t been able to enjoy them in awhile until I learned they started serving Gluten Free Pizzas recently, so basically you get a 7″ pizza starting at $ 4.51 for cheese and $.75 for additional toppings. The crust is very similar to Minsky’s but not quite as flavorful, it was nice and chewy with a little crisp to the bottom of the crust, I would suggest taking it home and baking it for a few more minutes. Overall a great value, at almost half the price of other gf pizzas in the area. I shall return soon!

The pizza slices are very large, but the crust is too thin for my taste. There is really no chew, just a thin layer of dough just barely thick enough to pick up. I’ve never really been«wowed» with the service here either. However, it is cheap and a nice area to sit outside in nice weather. They get plenty of business with their proximity to the UMKC campus. I eat here with other students occasionally, but would not go out of my way to go here.

Friendly staff and great pizza. The slices are huge so the price does make sense. Decent beer selection too.

This pizza slays. Giant slice, excellent crust to sauce ratio and fresh toppings to die for. Service is always friendly and attentive. Try the patio outside, it’s one of the best kept in KCMO!

Pizza was ok. Crust was less crisp than desired. Sauce was thin, but had ok flavor. They ran out of croutons for Caesar salad at last lunch and it took three times asking for one of our party to get the salad he ordered.

I enjoy Pizza 51. Huge, gigantic pizza slices with toppings falling off. My visits have always resulted in the Cowtown slice. All the meat you want in every bite. Some more cheese to keep the meat from falling off would be great, but this is a nice slice of pizza. Your order right when you enter the door. This can get a little congested. The bathrooms are located to the side of the ordering area and the congestion of the ordering line can make it tricky getting in and out of the bathroom. They have a fantastic patio to sit and enjoy your slice and beverage of choice. I think I would put Pizza 51 in my top ten pizza places in KC. Thin, crispy crust, with a ton of toppings is doing it right IMO.

Pizza 51 was kind of what I lived off of when I lived on campus at UMKC. Anything’s better than the cafeteria, right? Biting into a big hearty Pizza 51 slice will always be a nostalgic experience for me. I was impressed from my first bite: the pizza tastes really really good. But after going so many times, I did start to have a few issues with them. The service was often slow and sometimes very rude. One time I remember trying to order my food at least an hour before they were closing, and the cashier impolitely told me they were about to close and wouldn’t take my order(???). Also, stick to ordering pizza at Pizza 51. The salads suck. Lastly, I did receive slightly undercooked pizza a couple of times. But all-in-all, for a desperate college student, Pizza 51 was great to have right across the street from campus. One time my friends and I ordered that humongous pizza that’s too big to even fit on a table, and that was really fun to share. You can’t get a pizza that size from chain restaurants.

Living right by Pizza 51 has me wanting to catapult them into my top 3 pizza place in town, but alas, I’m not quite there yet. I love their pizza, it’s on a hand tossed dough and isn’t too thick nor too thin. Our go to is pepperoni with feta cheese and a side of their house made ranch. So often when I pick up my pizza from here, it comes boxed up and about 10 minutes undercooked. It’s often so undercooked that I can’t even pick up a slice without most of the toppings falling off. We’ve started cranking our oven to 400 degrees when we place our order because we know we’re going to have to cook it a little longer. The other issue is the service, and I’ve some pretty frequent service issues here. I literally live less than half a mile away and when I called for delivery one time the girl said«We don’t deliver that far.» I wasn’t really having it on that night and fired back, «I’m pretty sure I could throw a baseball from my place to Pizza 51, how could you not deliver?»(Think I could throw a football over those mountains?) I’ve had service be an issue with carryout and when eating there, although I should say there are a few really on-the-ball folks there. If you haven’t been, go and check out their pizza and see what you think. This spot isn’t far from being a four, maybe even five star pizza if everything comes together.

Holy crap! When I walked in to pick up a «large» pizza that a friend had called ahead for, I wasn’t expecting that I would need a pickup truck or Cirque du Soleil skills to carry the thing. The pizza box was about 3 feet by 3 feet HUGE. The price tag was big as well, roughly $ 45 if I recall correctly. The pizza was ok. NY style thin crust, ok toppings, and nothing to write home about. The novelty of it was the best part. For $ 45 I’d rather have several different pizzas from some other place.

The pizza was just ok, I like the atmosphere a lot. I think the idea of the large slice, cut into pieces was pretty cool. It’s walkable from work and try have a decent lunch special. The side salad was by far my favorite part! I would return because it was a fun place. It’s in an old garage and they remodeled it pretty cool. Staff is pretty nice and fun as well. Betting this place gets busy when UMKC is in session.

I’m diggin’ this place! Large thin crust slices, any toppings you want within the $ 5-$ 7 range with good beer selections and a great outdoor space! I haven’t been overwhelmed by the pizza choices in KC so I was presently surprised to be able to customize a good slice. Large, probably won’t cut it, these slices are HUGE. More than enough for a meal, for me it makes two. The service is always friendly and I love people watching UMKC students from the outdoor space. I think next I’ll have to try out the breakfast pizza on their Mission locations menu, yum!

Garlic, Cheesy, Bread. That is my lactose intolerance IDGAF meal. haha Its sooo good. So much cheese and so much garlic(also usually just as bad if you sensitivities to lactose). The bread is soft and not doughy. They have 3 main«specialty» pizzas… Nothing artisan or «different» about them… Just something to choose if you dont want to create your own. I am someone who likes the ability to create their own pizza depending on how you feel on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, but not Sunday. Sunday you should be at church… Or thats what my mother keeps telling me! The pizza itself is thin but not burnt and crispy like chain thin crust pizzas. It is soft and warm to the touch… Kind of like your 5th kiss… Because come on… Your first 4 were outright terrible! The slices are good size… Meaning are you going to have to unbutton your pants? No… But if you really want to… Order another one! They cut your sector of pizza into quadrilaterals. *THINKABOUTIT!* Which makes them easy to eat. The toppings are adequate, but you dont want a pizza where the toppings are falling off all over the place! They serve a few select beers… Which is key to any pizza establishment. The service is typically good. Except with one person who works the front and sometimes she smiles, but most times she just blank stares you and isnt typically welcoming. *Sorry I know your boss reads these… So if he hassles you about it… Its only for the best*

I really enjoyed my first trip to Pizza 51. The atmosphere is great — just enough of a crowd on a Saturday night not to worry you, but still able to get the food quickly enough that my darling kid only ate most of the black olives from my salad. We each got a(giant)slice — I love not having to decide who will have to compromise on toppings. The crust is crisp and airy. The toppings are abundant. Great beer selection — and if it’s nice, you can sit outside and enjoy the patio!

I can’t say enough good things about Pizza 51. Located in an old gas station on the corner of 51st and Oak, P51 gives you what you want with no BS — pizza and lots of it. It’s naturally in the heart of the UMKC campus, ripe for the picking for hungry undergrads and neighborhood foodies. My recent visit here wasn’t much different than the previous ones. Delicious food, hip ambiance, and the satisfying feeling that comes right after finishing a pizza the size of your torso. Start with a round of breadsticks, especially the roasted garlic variety. Add a house or caesar salad. Pick your pizza passion — my favorite is the Cowtown Lovers(pepperoni, sausage, beef, Canadian bacon, romano cheese). Enjoy. You really don’t need more than one slice of pizza here unless you are Ed «Crazy Legs» Conti or Takeru Kobayashi. One slice here equals three«healthy» slices at any other pizza joint in town. Thin crusted and cooked to perfection, P51 really knows how to serve up a great slice of pie.
