I’ve been using Upholstered Elegance for a few years now and they always deliver a top-notch product. I have sent them several pieces, both antique and newer pieces, and each time they recover a piece they make it look beautiful and the quality of the workmanship is very apparent. They take care to make the special touches so that the piece looks very professional. Barbara, the owner, is very hands on and makes sure the customer is informed about the steps involved and works to make sure that the furniture turns out perfect. I would highly recommend using them.

I had a vintage chair reupholstered here and had issues from beginning to end. I was referred by a local northland business, Nell Hill’s, through whom I regularly purchased fabric.(Her estimate was higher than three others I received, but the chair was important to me so I opted to use her anyway based on Nell Hill’s recommendation.) The chair also had a leg broken in a previous move and it needed repaired. Barbara said she would have to see it. So, I loaded it up and took it. She looked at it, said she had a repairman who could fix it — no problem — another $ 100. I agreed. We picked fabric, paid half in cash for deposit and went on our way. The fabric we picked was discontinued — not her fault. However, she was not okay with the fabric selection I brought in after the fabric I had ordered through her was discontinued. As soon as she saw where I had bought it, she became agitated. I’ve never had an upholsterer get annoyed by me choosing fabric elsewhere. After a lengthy and awkward conversation about rubs and durability, how she was ethical and the business and business owner selling me the other fabric wasn’t, I agreed to just use her fabric instead. At this point, I’m so uncomfortable, but I do want it done right and she was adamant that what I had was not a good choice. Whatever, I just want to wrap it up at this point. Eventually, the chair is repaired and recovered. Yay! Unfortunately, I have to go get it myself or pay delivery. Boo. However, when I do get it — it’s fantastic. She did a wonderful job, it looked perfect. Yay! Key word here — «looked»… After having it approx 2 weeks, the leg broke off when I leaned over in it to put a drink down on a nearby table. Not only did the the leg that was repaired, snap, but another one, too. I’m thankful it was me hitting the floor and not someone else — especially an elderly family member. I contacted Barbara immediately. She agreed to fix the one leg without charge, but not two, AND I needed to bring her the chair — again. I don’t see how this is good customer service or «ethical» at all. I already paid for one repair that failed, ultimately causing the second need for repair and I don’t feel confident paying the same people a second time to do what should have been done the first time. Plus, I need to load it up and bring it to her? In summary, I now have a really expensive vintage chair that looks awesome and has piping on it that will withstand 100,000 rubs. However, I can’t sit in it until I pay to have it repaired. AGAIN. My other pieces I planned to recover, will be going elsewhere and I am thoroughly, disappointed.

I had a very worn leather recliner seat and wasn’t sure how to go about fixing the problem. I contacted Barbra because her ratings were excellent. She helped me decide on an affordable, attractive solution. The price was reasonable and the work excellent. The chair looks and feels great.

Beautiful Estate pieces, Upholstered furniture & décor. After browsing the 1st floor vendors, my favorites are Teal Lotus, Aberdeen & Lampworks Gallery, don’t miss the 2nd floor, it’s not just an Upholstry Shop

I recently worked with Barbara on a Television home makeover show that was being filmed just outside of Kansas City. Our team had to renovate a home on an extremely quick deadline, and we were in need of some custom drapery panels. I stumbled across Upholstered Elegance through a Unilocal search and all of the reviews rang true to the high quality and efficiency of Barbara’s work. As a Television Art Director dealing with fast turnarounds, I do not have a lot of time to research different options for what we need, so I was extremely lucky to have found Barbara! Thanks to her excellent reputation and presence on Unilocal,I was able to make a quick choice, that was the right choice! She is personable, funny, kind and of course professional. I will recommend her to anyone who has upholstery or drapery needs in or around Kansas City. Thanks Barbara, and I hope to work with you again in the future!

Got Barbara’s name from Nell Hill’s. Needed a chair recovered and some cushions made. She was quick, easy to work with and my things are beautifully done! Will use her many more times in the future.
