Had an amazing experience at light wave pottery! Was taken with the millefiori pottery and the owner gave us a complete tour of his workshop and his process for creating that beautiful pottery. It is an exhaustive, meticulous and very lengthy process, and I am in awe of the creative talent and artistry it requires. He is a true artisan who has honed his craft over decades of dedication. We bought a heart– shaped shallow bowl that is our most treasured acquisition on Kauai, and our experience there will always be a treasured memory.

My husband and I stopped by this pottery shop while cruising on Kauai. We saw the sign on the side of the road and decided to stop by the studio/store. My husband loves pottery and he was really impressed with his work. We got a really beautiful set of mugs that looks like the Kauai mountain range on the water. We are really excited to bring these pieces back home to remind us of our awesome trip to Kauai! Even if pottery isn’t really your thing, we highly recommend checking out this awesome local shop! :)

This place is hard to find but it’s well worth the effort. Lightwave Pottery, a functioning pottery studio with a showroom, is run by Dean and Malone, an old surfer and his wife who used to run a smaller studio on Kahili Makai in Kilauea. There are large art pieces(lighthouses and ceramic figures) as well as small functional pieces(great ceramic cups and plates). Almost all of Dean’s works have some island flavor, including some clay made with Kauai red dirt. I have happily collected his petroglyph mugs over the years. They also sell cheap ceramic seals that make great souvenirs. The studio is also a great stop for people with kids. Dean teaches pottery classes on Mondays but he sometimes gives kids impromptu pottery lessons on the wheel. There is a large ceramic dragon outside and a menagerie of real animals to see, including goats, sheep and ducks. The only bummer is that it’s most often closed on weekends. Look for the LightWave sign on the side of the highway as you go through town! It’s a stop I make every time I am on island.
