Though it has been a year since my visit to Minnie’s I still think of the delicious food constantly. My ex and I had been living on Oahu and decided to head to Big Island for a bit. During our trip we went zip lining at Kohola Zipline in Hawi. Craving good local food after our time in the trees we asked our guides their favorite place to go, without hesitation they recommended Minnie’s. We quickly drove over and ordered ourselves lunch, I got the Ono plate and he got the roast pork plate. After the first bite we were hooked and didn’t stop eating until there was nothing left on our plates. The food was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. I still dream of it.
If you’re near Hawi and you want good local Hawaiian style food stop at Minnie’s. You won’t regret it.

Big portions, good food, friendly people. We stopped for lunch and split the house pork plate with salad. The pork was tender and had just the right amount of gravy since we were doing all salad and no rice they adjusted the normal amount of gravy down. Greens were so fresh it seemed they must have come from the backyard.

Nothing fancy about this place, but the food is excellent and the service extra friendly. I couldn’t decide between the Korean chicken and the fresh fish of the day plate, so the lady at the counter suggested getting both. Good choice! The fish was awesome! Cooked to perfection. I recommend and I would go back, if opportunity allows.

Great plate lunch! Just on vacation from Colorado and trying some of the local places. I had the fresh catch of the day, the Ahi Tuna plate seared, best I’ve ever tasted! The place is totally casual, lunch was served on a paper plate with plastic utensils. We sat outside on the front patio. From the outside I would never have guessed it was such great food. Luckily, I checked with Unilocal and and totally agree with the other reviewers that liked the place. I would definitely go back and recommend to others.

not really impressive, i think its pricey mahi2 is special of the day n its $ 16, korean chicken is a bit salty, coleslow is just cabbage slice of aplle nothing else. Place is like ur in patio home.

WOW, what an awesome find on the way back from the Pololou look out and Black Sand beach, looked at Unilocal and wanted something quick to take to the Beach with local, simple food. We hit the jackpot at Minnies, conveniently located on the main road back to Hawi, very clean, it was like eating a home cooked meal with really healthy portions. A variety of sandwiches and plate lunches. The fish was very flaky and very nice portions. We will definitely stop to get food on the next trip up to Hawi!

Came here for a late lunch after afternoon hiking. Amazing fish sandwich (ono was the fish of the day). Huge filet. Not fried! Tartar sauce made with dill was dill-licious (!!) and also great for dipping my Maui chips. The coleslaw is very fresh and light (yes pineapple, no mayo!). Highly recommend!

Definitely worth stopping in!!! Best fish sandwich on the island (and I’ve had a BUNCH of fish sandwiches this week). Hit this place after hiking down (and back up from) Pololu Valley and I was met with a smiling face, friendly service and, of course, GREAT FOOD.

My family and I decided to stop here for lunch after ATVing because our guide had recommended it and said it was a great place to eat, and she sure wasn’t kidding. I ordered the roasted pork with gravy plate and it was one of the BEST things I’ve ever tasted. The pork was juicy and just fell apart while eating it, and the gravy was to die for. I made sure I didn’t leave anything on the plate when finishing. Some of the other entrees that my family tried were the fish burger and plate (Ahi was the catch of the day) and the shrimp salad. Everything was really great, tasted very fresh, and they did skip out on any of the portions which we all loved. Pricing for each entrée is $ 9 – 10, which i thought wasn’t bad at all, because this was real local, fresh, and comfort food, not some tourist chain.
Its definitely worth a try if you’re in the area.

We stopped here for lunch on our visit to north Kohala. As vacationers from California, we’ve tried to find local eateries to avoid the tourist, overly priced resort food. We have been craving for plate lunch menus. I had the ½ size roasted pork and gravy — it came with a scoop of rice and Mac salad on a paper plate. My traveling companions got the hamburger steak and seared ahi tuna. All were great. Each plate is about $ 9. The restaurant is located off the main road, so it can’t be missed. We sat on the front porch as we ate, a small town nostalgic. The food is delicious and definitely worth the stop if you’re in this area. Recommended, yes!

Minnie feed a crew of volunteers breakfast over two days and a lunch. Minnie was very kind and the food was really, really good. Day one was fried rice, eggs, Portuguese sausage and fruit. The flavor the sausage was fantastic. The chicken we had for lunch was even better. Life-changing. Ruined us for any other chicken.
Her husband’s BBQ place up the road in Hawi is also crazy good!

My mom lives less than a mile from this place. My girlfriend and I had just finished ziplining at Kohala Ziplining and came across this place when walking back to the house. We were hungry so we stopped in for a quick meal. It was an off hour when we swung by so there was no one there.
We ordered a tuna steak plate and the pork.
Big portions! Felt like a mom pop shop. Super tasty! Would definitely stop by again enxt time I’m in town.

Roast pork plate and korean fried chicken were dope. Nice large portions and cheap price. Super friendly staff too. We also had the burger steak. No complaints there, but I just favored the roast pork and fried chicken more. Great post meal after hitting up Pololu Lookout.
Not open for breakfast so plan for lunch. You’ll love the food, the ohana feel, and super cool staff. Always smiling. My fave spot in North Kohala. Id rather drive up a few more minutes to eat at Minnie’s than eat at the more commercial restaurants at Waimea. Oh and they do combos, so don’t feel like you are limited to one good plate. Get a combo and taste more than one plate!!!
