There isn’t a single item in this store that hasn’t been thought about, everything in Charles is there for a reason; because it’s been tested, tried, checked, and found to be durable, quality, purposeful, better than the rest, and if it isn’t, one of any of the people who have been working there for decades will be happy to have a conversation with you about it. This is how things should be bought and sold.

A very nice family owned store that is located along the main drag in Katonah. One can stop in and get a great shirt or jacket or you can also pick up some nice barbequing or kitchen equipment. The staff is warm and inviting & its impressive that the business has remained in that same family‘s ownership for so long. It is a quick walk from the Katonah train stop or an easy drive for anyone that lives in Northern Westchester. Their is no reason to get your North Face, Filson, Marmot, etc gear at a big box retailer when you can support a local business such as this for the same product.

A quick side-trip to Katonah, a town I’ve never visited, was rewarded with a visit to one of the most perfect stores I’ve ever encountered. It’s as if the housewares department of Zabars or Gracious Home had moved to Katonah, but been well organized and not so overwhelming. They have everything, at a wide range of prices, including a 2nd floor with men’s and women’s clothes, ranging from high end(Barbour, Eileen Fisher), to affordable activewear. The owner was a delight, providing incredible customer service. Will return and do all of our Christmas shopping — Charlie says they provide free gift wrapping! This is so old school, in the nicest possible way. Go!

Love this store. Friendly staff, and super knowledgeable about the products they carry. We’ve been able to replace older or poorly made kitchen supplies with really solid stuff from Charles.(They also sharpen knives!) Both my wife and I have found great summer clothes there, too. We love the small town feel but appreciate that they carry world-class products. It’s not the cheapest place, but then again I know that they stand behind whatever they sell. I don’t think I’d get that kind of service and guarantee from, say, Target. Even if you aren’t going to buy anything, make a point of stopping in and saying hello to the Raneris — the store is an «Experience»!
