Ray’s of Kelso

I was not impressed. I made reservations online through Unilocal a week ahead of time and it was accepted. I get a call on Tuesday stating that I couldn’t have that time. She offered another time, but a minute later told me I couldn’t have that one either. We finally agreed on a date and time. So, I’m thinking that this place must be really nice. The building was an old house that had been remodeled into a restaurant and it looked it, too. It was very cramped. Our waiter was pretty good, though. My husband and I both ordered well done rib eyes. Mine was done to my liking, but my husband’s was still bleeding. He sent it back twice before they got it done enough to eat. The manager did take it off our bill without us having to ask. He ordered steak fries with his steak and got a child sized proportion. We have gotten better tasting steaks for a lot less money elsewhere. This was definitely not the place for us. This was our one and only visit.

Excellent food and service. It isn’t a cheap place at all but if you don’t mind paying and getting excellent food then it’s worth it. The menu had a lot of interesting dishes. I went during the week and did not need reservations. Google maps took us close but said we were there 4 or 5 blocks from place… so watch that.

Last year at an event catered by your restaurant we got certificates for $ 25 off a meal for the the day before, the day of, and the day after your birthday. Both Larry’s and mine said they expired in 2016. So did the ones the people we attended with. They were able to use theirs last year but we were out of town on both of our birthdays. Last night I gave ours to the waitress. Ray came out and said he didn’t know where I had «come up with this» but that all of the ones they put out expired in 2015 and besides that it didn’t even look like his signature. I was very uncomfortable with being accused of a forgery, particularly in front of friends and the other 2 diners. We all tried to explain to him when we got them. He just repeated that they hadn’t put these out. I assume the coupons were maybe prepared by whomever was in charge at the event we attended. Apparently someone put the wrong expiration date on there. But it wasn’t me. I was just relying in good faith to an offer I received. I said that I was not comfortable eating someplace that was accusing me of falsifying this document. I also told him that I hoped that not honoring the $ 25 coupon was worth the fact that the 6 of us were walking out and that Larry and I would never be back. He just turned and walked back to the kitchen. We came back to Cape and ate at Outback.
I will be letting everyone I know about the treatment I received from Ray, which was abusive and completely uncalled for.

Went here for my birthday dinner. OH MY GOODNESS! Absolutely wonderful. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Food was outstanding. I definitely will be back!

Love this place. Requires reservations, probably due to lack of dining area and no waiting area. I don’t think I have ever had something even mediocre here. Everything is great. My number one restaurant in the Cape Girardeau area.

Upscale quality with a relaxed atmosphere. Food is excellent. Pizza, seafood and steaks are especially good. Service is very attentive and polite. A highlight for me was the sweet potato soufflé, it’s a side dish that was so good I reordered it as my dessert. Great restaurant that puts the customer first.

Not quite fine dining but very upscale. Ray’s menu offerings range from $ 10-​$ 13 pizzas all the way to $ 35 Chateaubriand. Their hand cut steaks are brought out sizzling to your table and are to die for! They also offer a good sampling of chicken and seafood dishes.
The restaurant itself is a beautifully remodeled bank. You can even sit at the table in the old vault!
Service at Ray’s is nothing less than excellent!
