I enjoy this place. I’m glad to see it stayed open in a spot that had various restaurants take each others places over the years. Food’s great!

I’ve been wanting to try Don Jose’s for a while now. I finally got to do that. My husband I stopped in for a late lunch on a Sunday. I expected it to be super packed and have to wait. There were tables available as soon as we walked in. I was happy because we were starving. The waitress came right away to take our drink order. She was very, very nice. We got chips and salsa. The salsa was loaded with cilantro, my favorite! We decided to try the regular margarita and the Ocean margarita(I think that’s what it was called, it was blue). They were both very tasty. We started with the cheese dip with Chorizo. It was loaded with meat. I ordered a combo plate that had a tamale, taquito and chile rellino. The tamale was delicious and soft, the taquito was crispy and flavorful and the chile rellino was so ooey gooey with cheese. It was all delicious. The only complaint I had is that our server, while she was very nice, would take a long period of time to come check on us. Overall, I will return and will recommend this to other people!

I’m giving it quick pros n cons. Pros: We had a short wait. Waitress was on point. She didn’t have a bubbly personality. She flickered a hint of a smile one time. We got our food quickly. Cons: Food was luke warm, flavorless, and not«authentic Mexican food». Rice was dry and not very fresh tasting. Overall, I sadly think I would’ve enjoyed a couple burritos from Taco Bell more.

The food was quite good and the portions were satisfying. It came from the kitchen quick and hot. The server was a bit inexperienced but adequate.

I love this place! I travel from the Westbank to eat here usually a couple times a month. You get warm tortilla chips and yummy salsa within a minute of sitting down. Every server I’ve had is extremely friendly. It can get busy, but it still feels nice and cozy in the oversized booths. If you enjoy margaritas(who doesn’t? !) Then I highly recommend the top shelf strawberry/mango margarita on the rocks. There’s also buy one get one free during happy hour. You never have to wait long for your food. It comes out insanely fast, but is always fresh and delicious. I honestly don’t know how they do it! I’ve waited longer for food at a fast food restaurant, it’s nuts! Don’t immediately grab the hot plate after the waiter warns you it’s hot like I do EVERYTIME. Usually I’m already toasty from my margarita and completely unphased by this. Plus that white cheese. Is. So. Freakin. GOOD. I’m drooling just thinking about it. Did I mention they plop a sombrero on your head if it’s your birthday and sing happy birthday to you in Spanish and give you a free dessert?! Yeah I totally did that, it was awesome! So basically this place tics off all the right boxes. Nice staff, clean, great food, drinks and prices. If you’re in the mood for Mexican food this is where it’s at.

We’ve been here multiple times and have never had a bad meal. The food is always fresh and hot and the service is always fantastic. I recommend the chipotle quesadillas, spicy burrito, or the chicken fajitas. This is definitely the best Tex Mex in town.

Don Jose is A-OK The good: Awesome staff Prompt consistant service Very easy to get to Ample parking The Cons Roja and Tomatillo sauces were bland Rice was a little on the dry crunchy side Beans were good. Priced a little high for Tex-Mex So, following on the footsteps of our new found love fest for Williams Blvd As the Blvd for awesome ethnic cuisine, we decided to give Don Jose a try. Good, not great, but good. Salsa and chips a plenty, not the best salsa but good. See my points above as to the food taste, etc. I will avoid this location in the future. Opting for other smaller locations which dot the Williams Blvd Culinary Ecosystem. Out of 5 possible stars, one being the worse 5 being the best, I give it a question mark. How this business was rated 4 out of 5 from 120 reviews is inconceivable. Unless they were simply having an unbelievably off-off-off night. Or, maybe I am just a pick Mexican.

This is my first time here. I came based on the good reviews on Unilocal and I am not disappointed. The stag is very friendly and the food is delicious. They have a large menu with lots of choices. I had the enchiladas and can’t wait to come back and try something else.

My favorite is the chile rellenos. The cameronnes a la diablos is really good too. If you get the shrimp though, ask for a side of tortillas and make little tacos out of them. The chipotle shrimp appetizer is the same thing with less shrimp and none of the sides. I was content with the app portion personally.

Don Jose has great customer service as you enter the restaurant, being seated and throughout the dining experience. I loved my waitress and how the atmosphere was during my time there. The restaurant was very clean.

Quantity over quality seems to be the name of the game here. You can get a ton of food, and it’s reasonably priced, but it’s pretty solidly mediocre. I was really excited to try this place — I mean, I drove all the way out to Kenner for it — and was looking forward to a big ol’ plate of Mexican food. Well, I definitely got that… the dishes are ENORMOUS. I ordered the vegetarian sampler, which includes a bean burrito, cheese chile relleno, cheese enchilada, and bean chalupa, plus beans and rice. Yeah, that’s a heck of a lot of beans. And it was all kind of bland and not very exciting. I ended up dumping most of the table salsa on it to give it some pep. My meat-eating friend confirmed that his food was also on the«meh» side of things. Despite our entrée experiences, we tried the sopapillas because really, how could I resist sopapillas when I know they’re in my general vicinity? Sadly, they were probably the worst part of the meal — weirdly thick and heavy, with some viscous white sauce on top that was not very appetizing. The drinks were disappointing, too. I got the sangria and my friend got the margarita. Both, again, were gigantic, but VERY sweet and not strong at all. I should not be able to drink 900 oz. of sangria and feel sober as a toad. Overall takeaway: fine if you’re looking for a place to fill up without spending a ton of money, especially if you have kids, but not an impressive meal. I definitely have enough leftovers to last for several lunches. I just won’t be excited to eat them.

The service was good for the lunch hour. The chips salsa and cheese dip was very good. The steak chimichanga lacked flavor and was not cooked enough very doughy. My husband had the grilled chicken burrito supreme and had no flavor and they put the lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream on top. This was our first time trying this place because friends said it was good. Not sure what they were thinking. Our server Erica was very nice and came back to see if all was ok and checked on us 3 times.

I’m going to start this by saying I had a great dinner with some friend, but here is why I probably wouldn’t return with the plethora of other Mexican restaurants in the area. Pro’s– good Tex-mex, big menu, fast kitchen, nice atmosphere Con’s– dirty bathroom, rude waitress; never smiled, never checked on us, when she was around she wouldn’t look in our direction so we couldn’t flag her down. We had to flag other waiters down to get our waitress. She appeared rushed or bothered when she was by our table. Ps really want to give 2 stars but I’m giving 3 stars because the food was good and things might have been different with another waiter/waitress

We have eaten dinner twice here and I still dont love it. The lighting is a little too dark for a mexican place. Im not trying to be romantic while Im shoveling chips in my mouth. Speaking of romance, they do carry one of my favorite tequilas at an amazing price. Ive ordered the enchiladas and the sauce is bland. The kids chicken was over salted. You catch my drift. I think I wouldnt mind returning to sit at the bar though. I do prefer to drink in the dim light;)

Just had lunch there. Atmosphere is nice. Prices are reasonable. Ordered combination plate off lunch menu. My friends ordered something else. It was gross… like slop on a tortilla. Ground meat was plenty but the quality was low grade. My plate looked like they had poured enchilada sauce over everything. However, my friends enjoyed their steak taco salad and enchiladas. So Ive been asked to give this place another chance. Perhaps try something different with a different meat. Which maybe I will. Maybe… But I definitely prefer Velvet Cactus over this place(even though it is pricier). Also, the server never returned with my change. I had an $ 11 crap meal, gave her a $ 20 and she never returned with my change. She did ask my friend if she wanted her change back, but she never addressed me. So I guess she assumed that it was the decision for the whole table. Bathrooms were terrible. There are 3 stalls … The last one had no lock, the middle one had a loose seat and low water pressure, and the first one was filled with toilet paper. Then, while I was using it, they allowed a man in(Im guessing he worked there). They were speaking spanish so I dont know what the deal was. It was definitely an awkward situation. I hope this is not my last review on this place. I would like to give it another chance bc my friends did enjoy their food and Inhad heard many good things prior to my visit. If there ever is a comeback, I will be sure to update my review. Unfortunately, no pics.

Nice to find some real Mexican food right by the airport — no American cheeses or other obviously ‘Americanisms’ on the menu. The most noticeable nod to those with no culinary adventurism is the ‘Mexican chicken fingers’, which we most certainly did not order. We ordered the tamale plate(3 pork tamales, each with a different sauce(red enchilada, white cheese, green tomatillo) + rice + beans), chimichanga plate, beef crispy taco, and taco plate. None of us finished our plates because the portions were big, all had to go boxes for home, making the $ 40 total check totally worth it. Good food, too!

I went back. We had the cookout again(a meal for two) and it was better than I remember it being. Maybe the heat last time just made me enjoy it less. I don’t know if that would have been enough to raise the rating, but I tried the Sunburn Margarita, and it was super-awesome. That drink alone is worth a star. My only criticism is that the meal for two only came with 6 shrimp and 6 [small] tortillas. It should have had a couple more shrimp and twice as many tortillas. The food was great though, I highly recommend trying this restaurant

I had heard a lot of great things about this place from my Boss. So given the fact I was in Kenner I decided to check it out that day. The service was speedy and the server was nice. My only complaint was the fact that the waiter wasn’t very fluent in English. It made the process of ordering rather tedious and somewhat difficult. The food was definitely on point. I had a chicken quesadilla with Spanish rice and refried beans. I most definitely loved that chicken quesadilla. The rice was okay but nothing really to brag about. The refried beans were good too. One thing I liked was the white queso dip with the chips when I first sat down. The décor in this place was nice. This place had a full bar and a really decent beer selection. The next time I come in here I might try some of their mixed drinks. In short great Mexican food, decent drink selection, but you may have difficulties communicating with the server.

When I walked into Don Jose, I was pleasantly surprised by the more updated décor and the large dining room space. The menu is huge and offers all the typical Tex Mex flavors. Unlimited chips and salsa on the table and the salsa is really good and fresh tasting. I also dig their queso, which is an obvious statement. It comes in 2 sizes so depending on how bad your day is you can decide on what size to get. I usually opt for the«drown all my feelings» barrel. The food is average tex mex fare. I’ve gotten the taco salad with shredded chicken and I’m also a fan of the steak and cheese enchiladas. I would pass on the ground beef offerings since I did not find the meat that flavorful. Anything with shredded chicken or grilled steak is tasty. Their tamales are decent, the flavor is good, but too much corn meal and not enough pork. The service is always good and the food comes out very fast. Ok super fast. So good to go if you are a little tight on time because you will be in and out.
