This is the best Italian bread I’ve ever had. I grew up in Kenosha and their bread was pretty much always in our cupboard. I moved out to California back in 2000 and have yet to find some Italian bread that compares with Cardinali’s. Even the little Italy part of town in San Diego didn’t have anything. This place set the standard for me. Oh how I miss this place.

Janet Cardinali and Debbie were amazing to work with. They created the most delicious cupcakes for our wedding two months ago! They don’t normally bake for weddings, but you should beg them too. All our guests loved the cupcakes and the decorations were beautiful. Yum! Also, the lowest prices around for a fancy cupcake.

The old-fashioned sign is what lured me in here. It just so happened that I was on the hunt for a cake or pie to bring to my family dinner that evening. I entered to find the employee admiring the owners new Harley – go figure! She was friendly and I felt bad(and sad) that all the display cases were practically empty. All there was was bread(which according to Adam is what makes Cardinali’s what it is). Some cookies were remaining but so few that one child alone could finish them all off in one sitting. It seems that this bakery has seen better days…

It’s the about the bread… Cardinali’s is a ‘no-frill’ Italian bakery. Stop in the store, there’s not much here … just fresh carbs. I used to shop here weekly for my grandmother. I hated hiking the extra two blocks for bread — did not appreciate or understand it at the time. Only after I moved from Kenosha, did I realize the addictive powers of an amazing fresh-sliced round loaf. Anyone that enjoys bread and/or needs to take a break from the store-bought trendy 2000-grain breads … break off a piece of the round.
