La Fogata Mexican Grill

I’ve been here a few times, and the food is always good. Attentive staff, and pretty good drinks.

Fresh ingredients, nice ambiance and a friendly waitstaff. It was a nice meal, not extraordinary, but a good meal at a fair price.

I can not say enough good things about this restaurant. I dined there for the first time this week and can not wait to go back. The food was excellent. The wait staff was amazing. Even my 5 year old daughter who is a picky eater loved it! They brought out fried ice cream after our meal for my dad’s birthday. It was the first time we’d ever had fried ice cream and I didn’t know that I’ve been missing out on the most delicious dessert for my whole life. Great experience!

Stopped in for lunch as it was recommended by a co-​worker. The place looks very Americanized but bright and friendly. Our service was a bit up and down because we were in between a seasoned waitress and a waitress trainee. The portions are huge and for lunch we wanted something smaller. (This place needs a bigger lunch menu with smaller portions). I asked if I could get the torta with no sides for a discounted price, which the waitress responded no problem. The torta was very good, I loved the chorizo on top of the meat and veggies it added a layer of spice/​taste that the sandwich needed. I was disappointed though that I had to pay full price for the meal. $ 12 for a sandwich and ice tea was a bit high for me. I could go to a taco truck and get a torta for $ 5. This place is probably better for dinner and drinks, the full diner menu looked good. For lunch it was to much food. Have to try again another time for diner and make a final decision.

Pollo Gordo! Don’t bother putting it on Tortillas like the wait staff recommends. It’s awesome as a stand alone entrée. Tortillas will just diminish the flavors.
Friend had Enchiladas Barbacoa. Tender shredded beef with great flavor.
Friendly, knowledgeable waitress. A gem of a restaurant in Kenosha.

I had lunch here with some co-​workers at the suggestion of one who lives in Kenosha.
I was greeted and seated right away — it was just before 11:30 a.m. so they weren’t busy yet. A server brought me chips and salsa while I waited for my co-​workers. The salsa was amazing — it tasted like they roast the tomatoes, which gives it a nice, rich flavor. I was seated on the back porch, which overlooks Lake Michigan. Probably a more impressive view in the summer than on a gray, snowy day.
I ordered the tres quesos enchiladas as a lunch portion, which came with two enchiladas, rice, and refried beans. The enchiladas were excellent. The cheese blend was tasty, and the enchiladas were smothered in a red enchilada sauce that was flavorful. And the price was right for a lunch portion.
They were busier when we left. which was around 12:30. If you’re coming for lunch, plan for a bit of a crowd.
It’s not the most authentic Mexican food I’ve ever had, but it was tasty.

The food here is AMAZING. This place serves up consistently tasty Mexican dishes, and the drinks are to die for (hint: ask for your rum bucket once you finish it, you can take the empty bucket home with you — they’ll even rinse and dry it for you!)
Patrice was a great server that really made our experience special. Personable and friendly without being overbearing. We always had everything we needed. Special requests never had to be repeated and we never had to ask for refills on waters, chips, etc. Would come back & request her, great great great!

Great food! Little pricey but in the end worth it! They had some seasonal guacamole that had toasted pumpkin seeds oh my it was delicious!

Very good Mexican food and even better bar. The only problem is a lack of seating when it is a nice night on the summer. I have experienced a 2 hour wait for a table. Even with this potential the upside out ways the dawn. Go and experience an excellent Mexican Dinner.

The food is good, but very pricey. The place is always crowded, but I’m not sure why. There is nothing wrong with the restaurant, but I can get the same food from a number of take out places at half the price or travel a little farther and get better food at their prices. They do make good Margaritas!

We LOVE La Fogata and eat here quite often! The staff is fantastic. We always have excellent service. (In fact, I would say this restaurant has the most consistently great service, across the board, of any restaurant in this area!)
The food is very good! It’s just enough-​familiar and just-​enough unique… which meets the needs in our family of varied tastes! We always get the guac! (I actually mix some salsa in my guac and it gives it an even better flavor!!) Overall, everything they make tastes fresh and yummy!
It goes without saying that the margaritas are also great!
We also love that we can eat ‘outside’ virtually all year!
Yes, dinner time is often very busy, but the seating turns over pretty quickly… and, it provides the opportunity to get started on those margaritas!
If you’re traveling past this area and looking for a place to stop for a great meal, I would say that it’s worth the trek East to eat here! Plus, you get a glimpse of the lakefront!
They also run another restaurant called Lucky Star in Burlington. We’ve eaten there and liked it very well. It’s got similarities and differences. The main thing is that the quality and service were what we expected!

I would classify La Fogata as an Americanized Mexican restaurant. The reason why is because their food isn’t authentic whatsoever.
A couple of friends and I went here to try it out. We were seated the second we went in because it was empty. Our server was nice, but seemed distracted. She also seemed rushed which I didn’t understand because we were one of the very few customers in the restaurant. I proceeded to browse through the menu and ordered the flautas.
We waited about 10 – 15 minutes for our food to arrive in our table and we started to dig in. I was super excited to eat mine because flautas are one of my favorite Mexican dishes! As soon as I bit a piece off, I was already disappointed. The meat was dry, the tortilla was hard to chew, and the toppings were just tossed on it as if presentation wasn’t a priority. Finished my glass of water once and had to ask our server to please refill it.
Would I come back here again? No, mostly because I moved to California but also the fact that their food isn’t authentic Mexican. Would I recommend this to a friend? You’re better off at Taco Bell.

I took my family there eat. I was handed a dirty plate. The underside of the plate of my daughter’s good smelled of shi#. It had smudged, something, on the bottom. I let the waitress know and they didn’t do anything about it. Haven’t gone there since.

Really nice patio makes this a great spot for outdoor Mexican flavor. Guacamole full size order definitely a good size but taste us a but bland — mix with the tasty salsa on table for a better flavor. But its definitely fresh. Cheese enchiladas are classic and yummy. Get the wit mole sauce for small fee. Best part is the selection of tequilas. Muy Bueno

A group of co-​workers and I decided to step out for dinner after a meeting in the area. We were told we would enjoy this restaurant good food and drinks.
We arrived at the location as we walked in we were greeted by professional and friendly young faces who were very attentive to us. One of young ladies than seated us, gave us menus and asked if we needed anything more. After a few minutes Holly our server introduced herself .She was vey friendly and went above and beyond just as the hostess did !
We asked several questions about the menu and Holly assisted us with make final choices in our dining experience. We enjoyed the Margaritas very much so!
Now the downfall…
The food was very disappointing for Mexican food I rather have ate at a Spanish grocery store in the parking lot in Waukegan! Very disappointed with the flavor which I didn’t feel was authentic nor up to my standard while the price was fairly high! They don’t even carry Horchata!
I rather have just ordered a drink and ate chips!
Not only that the mannerism of the other wait staff here is embarrassing to say the least ! My server asked another server for assistance which to no reply only to have the nice young hostess step out of her way to help.
We witnessed another staff member barking orders to another coworker in front of us customers!
The servers barely ever smiled or acted friendly to customers! we were at AWE!
I, then was so bothered by this I called the following Monday to talk to a manager but got no where.
The owners need to sit back and watch staff, retrain staff with customer service skills or just get rid of the staff and lower management that don’t know how to operate with customers spending earned money or coworkers respectfully.
Strong points :
The place has wonderful drinks, a great view of the lake, a beautiful patio for summertime dining, is clean, modern and has potential to be a higher standard establishment in southern Wisconsin… if they weeded out the nasty wait staff/​lower management and took a little trip to IL. for some cooking lessons.

I never had a good meal at La Fogata. In fact it has some of the worst tasting Mexican food imaginable. The restaurant facility itself is lovely and nicely decorated, the food «looks» good and they use what seem to be good ingredients but the flavors are awful. There are so many better Mexican restaurants around Kenosha. My colleague orders a different dish every time because every one he has tried has been bad. La Fogata seems to have a nice building and good Margaritas which appear to be their big draw. But if you are a «Foodie» you will be disappointed.

I enjoy coming here for their drinks, mojitos are great and their food is good.
During the summer they have their patio open and its really nice.

The food was pretty decent. That’s why it squeaks out the 3 stars.
When we were there, there was easily a 3 – 2 ration of employees to patrons, so there should be no reason for any lags in service. It wasn’t horrible, but I sat and waited a couple times. The bigger problem with the service was that NOBODY SMILED AT ALL!
It’s not like they were frowning per se, but never once did we see an actual smile.
I got the shrimp & chorizo tacos. If it wasn’t for the chorizo, they’d have been inedible, as the shrimp was super-​over-​cooked & rubbery.
My girlfriend’s food was better, but still had an overwhelming Applebee’s/Chilli’s vibe to it.
It’ll be a while before I get back on this burro.

This would be a sit-​down Mexican meal I’d be happy to have in Chicago or LA. Really deep menu, the Barbacoa enchiladas are fantastic. Barbacoa can sometime be super greasy but Fogat’s wast he perfect level of juiciness & seasoning.
The Carne Asada burrito was also excellent. The Asada was cooked to perfection, still some pink whereas most joints will way over-​cook to be safe. I have a spider-​sense that the Barbacoa Burrito could be a huge winner, give that a try.
The salsa is decent, but ask for the green salsa, much better and less gringo-​fied. Huge drink menu, I liked the Boss margarita but all the ones you’d expect are here.
Lots of dings for service on Unilocal here, but always been fantastic when I’ve been. Very outgoing and attentive. The prices are on the higher end, but the atmosphere is great and you’re across the street from the Lake. Good place to take parents or folks from out of town.
