Smoked Ribs were excellent. Smoked sausage was terrible. It had the consistency of Bologna. I was starving so I ate it, but it was really not what a smoke house should be serving. If it is tough getting good sausage on the island make your own. Yuck.

Overpriced wow, unbelievable– what a trap! Avoid the $ 30 plus plate with a meager portion of food. I have never been so disappointed. Cool place — wow, rip off!!!

Had dinner with the family here and it was overall a good experience, but probably won’t return again. The service was outstanding though! We ordered two plates, and a half pound of burnt ends. And then an additional ½ pound of burnt ends, couple sides of cornbread, and a couple IPA’s. The plates were: one order of ribs, and one was the brisket. We decided to dine family style and split everything. The food was served quickly, but wasn’t warm at all. The sides we ordered were mac and cheese. I think it could have been great, but cold Macaroni is pretty tasteless. The brisket plate was served with 3 slices of brisket. The portion wasn’t large by any means and the meat was a little fatty. That entrée alone was $ 17. The flavor was good, could have been better if the food was hot. The prices are extremely high, even for Maui. The best part of the night was the cornbread, but a little loaf the size of my palm for almost $ 4 still isn’t worth it. Wouldn’t be my number one choice to recommend to locals or tourist.

I’m being fairly generous giving them 3 stars to allow for different styles of BBQ. The pulled pork was super dry and covered in black pepper, almost like jerky. They have a pretty small selection of sides and the mac and cheese that we were served was half under cooked and half over cooked, the portion that wasn’t crunchy was very bland. I will give them props for the coleslaw, it was excellent but it was the only thing I enjoyed about the meal.

We found this place on Unilocal after my boyfriend expressed a desire for a good barbecue joint. As tourists, this was kind of hard to find and tucked away. I eventually found the back door near a sign for a womens washroom. This place reminded us of local Victoria/Vancouver BC, Canada spots — kinda hipster(only local beer, cocktails in mason jars, the art, the way the menu was written) and we loved it. Cornbread on the side is a MUST. Mac and cheese was ok, a little bland. BBQ chicken sandwich was delicious. The bartender was a total sweetie and answered all of my questions about their drinks with a smile. Our server was awesome, friendly and quick too. Would definitely return!

After a long dive down there road to Hana with multiple hikes, there is nothing more we desired than some savory BBQ and enjoy Hawaiian micro brew. At big daddy’s you can do both! Our food was for takeout and was prepared quickly. We enjoyed the ribs and brisket both of which were extremely delicious when accompanied by the tangy and spicy BBQ sauce. The only complaint I have is that there was not enough and for the prices but that seems to go with the Maui territory.

So So sad! On our last visit 10⁄2015 we loved this place so much that we went 3 times during our 10 day stay, So we of course put this place top on our list of places to go to this trip. It was completely different, The lights were crazy florescent bright. The mac and cheese looked and tasted like it was from a box, the burnt ends were no longer real burnt ends, although still tender and decent. the hushpuppies were the only saving grace f the meal. They were great. I am sad to say that I do not think we will be returning. Wish it would have stayed the same.

From the second we walked in, Chris made us feel very welcome. What a great host! Our meal was so great. I had the ribs and my husband had the pulled pork. Some of the best ribs I’ve ever had. Treat yourselves, you won’t be sorry! Highly recommended!!!

** GETTHEBURNTENDS, YOUWILLNOTREGRET ** Came on a Saturday evening, an hour before closing. They do not take reservations, but were extremely accommodating for a big group of 14. Service was great! No complaints there with the island hospitality. Got the $ 64 Who’s Your Daddy Sampler plate for two — my boyfriend requested this for his birthday — & when it comes out it totally makes your mouth water. Six choices of meat(ribs, brisket, burnt ends, pull pork, hot links & chicken), two large sides and two corn breads. We got the cole slaw and watercress salad. I can say most of the meat was good, but a little bit all on the dry side except for the burnt ends which melts in your mouth. Probably because it has been sitting under a heater all day. Would definitely recommend coming EARLIER in the day. With that being said, I definitely have had better BBQ. All of it was a little bit too dry and over cooked for me. ESPECIALLY the ribs & brisket, which is so sad because I love brisket. The sides were underwhelming(but come in great portions) and maybe I was just not feeling it that much. My friends did not like the jalapeño hush puppies, also being because it was too dry and crumbly. Come here if you want some meat, get the burnt ends with corn bread. If you have had great BBQ before, this will not exceed expectations.

AMAZING! food is excellent! We had pulled pork, ribs, burnt tips and brisket and all were delicious! Mac and cheese and baked potato were awesome. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to everyone visiting Maui. The place was clean and service was professional and the décor was cool. It’s a must to check this place out while in Maui!

Had the Ribs Plate $ 15. which comes with 2 sides(some sides cost $ 1.75 extra) and it was tasty. My side choices of baked potato was good and the watercress salad was very nice. Casual place. Good service. Owner came around to check how the food was and he actually brought the ribs to the table. Cons: A number of tables are too small(maybe 2′ square).

So good. I can’t believe we’ve never been here before! Everyone’s really nice here, and the BBQ is amazing. The awesome: End pieces Ribs Cornbread Mac n cheese The okay: Coleslaw(only because we were looking for a mayo based slaw, and this was a vinegar based, wasn’t bad though just didn’t shine next to all the ridiculously delicious things) No reservations and this place fills up fast!

This place is awesome. I see a lot of reviews saying it is good«for the islands». This place has excellent BBQ for anywhere. The«for the islands» part about the price is true. Very reasonable for the portions. If someone gives this place less than four stars, they probably have done hundreds of reviews and think they are some kind of semi-professional food and restaurant critic, making them hypercritical and, sadly, inhibiting their ability to simply enjoy a great meal. Eat here! It’s good.

Follow your nose! You can smell the meat a block away. The restaurant is finishing renovations right now but don’t let that stop you. It looks fantastic inside. We ordered the sampler platter which is not for the weak of heart or appetite. The smoked ends and brisket were outstanding but the real standout dish was the chili. Chunks of steak, cheese, jalapeños…and I’m drooling on my phone. It was some of the best chili I’ve ever had. Ask about their habanero sauce too. I could hook that up to an IV. TL;DR-Want meat? Go here.

Place was under renovation when we went so it looked kind of sketchy, but honestly, our waitress was so nice and attentive that we didn’t have the heart to leave. We let our emotions get the best of us, and it was worth it. The meat is so tender and they had some of the best Mac and cheese I’ve ever had at a BBQ joint! Finger licking good.

Thanks to Unilocal and being close to our rental, we found Fat Daddy’s on the last night they were open before their remodel. The place was pretty busy, but we were able to score seats at their bar. The service was friendly. There were four of us so we ordered a pound of brisket and of pulled pork. The brisket was just okay(They did share with us that there smoker was giving the chef fits. I’m guessing they will get that straightened out.) The pulled pork was excellent and they offered us some great sauces that complemented both meats. The truffle mac was good and not over truffled. We had another side, but I cannot remember was it was.(The focus is always on the meat.) Next time back to Maui i’ll give them another go.

November 14, 2015 Saturday — 7PM for dinner 4 adults Atmosphere — 4 star Food & Drinks — 5 stars Service — 5 stars Background — Dale spotted this place on one of our walks down Kihei Road and he needed some BBQ. Atmosphere — The place is in a remodeling phase so visually it was not that great. It still functioned as a restaurant. The place is tiny so we all just sat at the bar as there was enough free space for the four of us. Food Drinks — Their taps were offline for the remodeling, so no keg beer. They did have a few bottles to choose from. I try to drink local and today I had Kona’s Big Wave. Food — Dale our barbecue expert in our group ordered us a pound of pulled pork and a pound of brisket. We just kept passing the places around family style, what a great way to get a little of everything. We had two sides the truffle macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. The mac was really good, not too much truffle oil in it. Like Dale, my favorite meat was the pulled pork. Then our server heard us talking about sauces and he brought us three others to try. The habanero sauce was nice and sweet up front and finished with a slow burn, nothing a little beer would not help resolve. Service — Great, our server worked from behind the counter and made sure were taken care. Dale had the deep questions like what temp they smoke at. They all got answered. Future — Perhaps still on this vacation.

We walked in and totally though this place would be bigger lol but that doesn’t matter. We were told we could sit anywhere. They were doing some renovations and the keg cooler broke but they still had bottled beer and cocktails that were delicious. We started with the jalapeño hush puppies which were amazing especially with ranch and the truffle oil mac N cheese which I also really enjoyed. Our main dish was the who’s your daddy sampler platter. You get to choose 4 out of the 6 meats they have. Now let me tell you it was just my husband and I but you really need like 3 or 4 people to plow through this deliciousness, unless you want left overs. We chose brisket, hot links, pulled pork, and the burnt ends. Everything was AMAZING! But if you aren’t going for the full platter go with those burnt ends, we both could’ve easily just eaten those! They’re so tender they just melt in your mouth. The pulled pork was super tender as was the brisket. Don’t let the hot links fool you… they start off not spicy but that creeping heat will get ya quick lol. Oh yeah almost forgot price wise. 35.00 for the giant platter and average 5 – 10 bucks for drinks! They also sell their mason jars for 6 bucks XD

Who would think that you would find good BBQ on an island in Hawaii. I had been catering to my wife’s love for seafood for several days(I don’t eat seafood!) and so she was kind enough to finally let us go to a meat place. We chose Fat Daddy’s because we drove by it. No recommendations. No checking reviews. Just because it had BBQ in its name. The food was exceptional. I would give it 5 stars but they were in the middle of a remodel when we stopped in and it was a mess.

Its difficult for me to separate the experience of the meal from the place itself, but I’ll give it a shot. I’m still glowing and alarmingly full of brisket. We arrived early but the place was already busy, and the owner ran up, apologized for having no seats and that the restaurant was under construction. Frankly I just thought it was funky, and no apologies were in order. He then brought my kids big glasses of guava juice for the wait, unprompted. I noticed immediately they were playing live dead covering Dylan, which if it’s not your thing, whatever, but set exactly the right tone for me. Once we got seated, a big, former chocolate milk tub full of toys came out for my daughter. I then got a huge vat of beer and proceeded to build things with my daughter while we waited. I get why the other reviews cite the service, because it’s definitely not rushed, but we were treated amazingly well. The food was great, the people were amazingly friendly. I loved it. Brisket, ribs and pulled pork were great. Try the truffle oil Mac and cheese!
