I had the breakfast buffet. We paid 8.99 person, which is pretty good. I have lived in Killeen 10 years but never dropped in until today. Needless to say, it was better than I had imagined. You can also upgrade your breakfast for a few bucks more.

First time eating there today. Food is amazing, Prices are reasonable. Service was great. Except for the Cook he was absolutely rude to waitress heard him call them out of there names. He was constantly in back cussing. A guy like that is only going to kill your business. Wish you luck.

My wife and I had not been to this restaurant since the early 80’s, we were sure surprised to see when we walked in that it was not at all the same restaurant. While it is still called the Kettle restaurant with the same old sign, it is not the same restaurant that we knew and loved. It had been somewhat remodeled, no more booths, new paint and maybe new title floors, the ceiling was a dirty drop down. We were greeted at the door and shown to a table, although I don’t know why we just didn’t sit down since the restaurant was empty except for what looked to be a few regular ladies. We were under the impression that we might just get a nice home cooked meal. We were handed menus, and at the same time told there was a thanksgiving special. Without even thinking about it we decided to have the special, this was our second mistake.(The first was sitting down). When the food arrived,(if you want to call it food), there was plenty of it, but. frankly it looked like something left over from a few days back. The meal consisted of mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, turkey(more like a turkey loaf), brown gravy, green beans fresh out of a can, and nasty as heck, and what appeared to be some store bought rolls. We also had our choice of a piece of pie and the run of the salad bar. The salad bar was nasty as heck, the lettuce wasn’t fresh or crisp. The tomatoes were pinkish in color, the raw baby carrots were not even washed or peeled and must have been dumped on the line direct from the bag, Forget cucumbers, radishes, broccoli or any of the normal salad ingredients, and nothing not a darn thing was fresh or crisp, nothing is worse than vegetables that are warm and old. My wife took some lettuce, but didn’t eat any, I fixed a salad, and being very hungry and ready to eat a horse,(which I bet would have tasted better) ate half the salad, before realizing the tomatoes tasted funny, and pushed the rest aside. When it came to the meal, the green beans were not eatable, the yams too sweet, well the turkey such as it was had no taste, and the mashed potatoes and gravy were at best OK?, My wife had a few bites and pushed the plate away in disgust. Usually, it is me that makes a scene when I receive garbage that is disguised as food, but this time as hungry as I was, I just started to eat.(this was my third mistake) I had a piece of pecan pie which was the best part of the whole meal, but it sure wasn’t anything but store bought. Oh, and I should say none of the food was hot, not even lukewarm. And someone didn’t even know how to boil water for a hot cup of tea, and my wife tells me the coffee was Luke warm at best. For this grand feast, we were obligated to pay almost $ 25. We would had done much better getting a hamburger at MacDonald’s at least it would have been eatable. The fact this this was a thanksgiving meal made it seem worse, why there wasn’t any cranberries either… Any way… just because a restaurant has new tables, and new paint doesn’t mean it has good food. Needless to say we were really disappointed, not in a million years would I wish this dive on my worse enemy. and to top it all off, I spend the next two hours barfing my guts out… Stay away from this nasty place. Oh, and we heard the cook asking why the watress was bring back plates with food still on them. like did you all really expect us to enjoy that garbage?

If you like Diners and dives this is a definite 5 stars– especially for breakfast. There are very few real diners in Texas– so I fully support them when I find them. This places has a good little breakfast buffet. It includes an omelet bar AND fresh pancakes. The food tastes homemade rather than plastic like Denny’s. The waitresses are friendly, and accommodating. We come here every time that we are in the area. They removed the booths in the remodel, so that is a bit disappointing, but it’s minor. They have free wifi if you need it. YOUSHOULDBEAWARE that they do close at 2. I think they reopen later, but we’ve never gone for dinner.

Pros: Clean, newly renovated, friendly staff, $ 2.99 for a child very reasonably priced Cons: Buffet food was decent at best, $ 8.99 for an adult is over priced for the amount of options Overall a weak 2.5 You can get a better tasting meal at Denny’s or IHOP for around the same price the only thing that I really enjoyed about the Kettle was the service. Very friendly folks and overall good atmosphere.

Excellent little family restaurant. I used to eat here a lot when I was in the military, stationed at Fort Hood. Not really much to say, the inside of the place is old, but charming in that particular way. The food is good, average at best, but prepared with a lot of home cooked love. The staff is what really makes the place. They really do treat you like family, and the service I have enjoyed in there was well above average. Next time I swing by Fort Hood to visit, I will be sure to stop in again.

Just your typical breakfast diner. I thought it was perfectly fine, however nothing stood out as impressive. I would definitely go back here to support local business instead of a chain like iHop!

We came here for a breakfast birthday for a buddy of mine. We were greeted by a friendly staff. The food was great! We had the buffet, which was well worth it. I was full for the rest of the day. The place was very neat, quiet, and it felt homey. I love the menudo! All you can eat menudo!

There has to be a restaurant that you can go to in the circumstance that your tongue happened to be ripped out of your face. The Kettle is probably that place as it caters to those that despise flavor, or food in general. When you first enter you will feel welcoming atmosphere and a genuine care of your well being. Once your food arrives however, you experience the repressed hate The Kettle has for your tastebuds. The pancakes are a quick mix made with water w/o eggs. You then try the waffle sticks and pray for them to be cafeteria quality. Don’t worry though, once you take that first bite your mouth will be filled with the oil they were fried in. The Kettle is where you would go to once you have reached the point in your life where going anywhere in sweatpants is alright and all self respect has been lost. Save yourself, I’m already dead.

Went here for breakfast today… I’m sorry but GROSS. waitress was nice and helpful. but the food was not so great. The buffet food was old looking… so we just ordered breakfast. I had an omelet, it was nasty. Dad had eggs and bacon. the bacon was under cooked and chewy. Its hard to screw up breakfast. but they managed. Tums here I come. Coffee was ok.

It’s been at least 7 years since I’ve eaten here. As soon as I walked in I noticed the entire place has been remodeled and it looks great! Also I was greeted at the door by a friendly waitress who promptly seated me, gave me a menu and brought my coffee which was hot and fresh. I looked over the menu a few minutes and my waitress came by to see if I was ready to order. She recommended the breakfast buffet which I agreed to. Everything to my surprise was fresh and piping hot and clean. I highly recommend this place for a good hot and fresh breakfast!

I went here out of necessity one morning, because my daughter wanted pancakes and all the ihop’s were full. The food was meh and the place is a dump. The carpet and staff for that matter looked like they were stuck in 1986. As soon as my daughter was done eating we bolted. I may have contracted something by just breathing the air in there. Edit: yes I realize this review is in context that of a smartass(by design). The owner was gracious enough to write me an email calling me a Neanderthal. Stay mad brother, should be more focused on improving your atmosphere rather than what I say.

This joint is THE definition of the«greasy spoon» restaurant. Had the breakfast buffet. Half-decent selection, fairly decent food. Nothing to write home about, but not horrible, especially for $ 6.99.

Horrible! Came on a Friday, family of five. Two got all you can eat catfish, two got breakfast and I got a cup if soup. We also ordered the sampler appetizer. Food took 40 minutes. Sampler came out with meal, when we specifically asked for it before the meals arrived. Since it took so long my husband placed an order for more catfish. My kids never got the sausage with their breakfast, we asked waitress said she would get it… never got it. I never got my soup. Mashed potatoes that came with fish was ice cold, cole slaw was gross. Sampler came out without the mozzarella sticks, we were then told they were out. So said they would replace those with mushrooms… never got those either. We will NEVER be back.

Service was great and the food was good. The only thing wrong was they put the wrong cheese, on my omelet. Other than that, great! This is a definitely like a greasy spoon restaurant. Oh, I went there two days later and had the same thing, they got the cheese right but it was still the american sliced totally processed kind.

Looking for a more«Mom and Pop» place is not all that easy in the Ft Hood /Killeen area where it’s all IHops and Denny’s. We wanted to check out Kettle on a sunday morning and were pleasantly surprised. It has some solid and hearty breakfast plates on the menu and you can also go for the buffet if you’d prefer. It doesn’t have the fake friendliness of the national chains, has a homemade flavor to everything and on a sunday morning has a pleasant hustle and bustle feel. A nice place for a good and solid breakfast.
