The Chesapeake Bay Chip Company is a stone’s throw(literally) from my office in Kilmarnock, and I visited for the first time on Election Day. I had the roast beef sandwich on toasted sourdough bread, and it was excellent. The sandwich has lettuce, tomato, onion, and something called«tiger sauce,» which is tasty, and the meal was very filling. I usually eat what I am served, but I could only eat half of this large sandwich. Soft drinks always seem colder and more refreshing if they are the 12 ounce variety in an aluminum can rather than the 20 ounce variety in a plastic bottle. The place seats about 15, and the large room has an industrial feel with lots of steel and aluminum(it seems I have something for aluminum, doesn’t it?). This building is next door to the bowling alley in what was once a paint store, between School Street and Main. I give it five stars, and I plan to return tomorrow with my friend, John! I think my family will become semi-regulars. Check it out!

We shared a delicious Reuben, the best restaurant greens we’ve ever had, tasty baked beans and one of 11 beers on tap. Fast, attentive, friendly service. Everything is made in house and you can take a growler of your favorite beer home. Open for breakfast and lunch.

Nate Myers, owner of Nate’s Trick Dog Café in Irvington, VA, has come up with another winner. Last week he opened the Chesapeake Bay Chip Co. in Kilmarnock, VA, with a totally unique business model. The CBCC offers All Day Breakfast and All Day Lunch six days a week, 8:00AAM to 6:00PM, Monday through Saturday. I visited for the first time for lunch today, arriving at 11:45AM since I anticipated a crowd. The parking lot was totally empty!(That quickly changed, when I left 40 minutes later it was standing room only). The idea is you can order«to go» or you can eat right there. Craft beers and wine are available to drink there or to take out as well. Prices are extremely reasonable. I ordered a delicious Italian Sub that was one of the best I’ve ever had, along with a side order of wings, which were large and succulent. And of course a bag of their chips — Julia, who works there and was busier than a one armed paper-hanger told me she and some of her associates had spent the weekend bagging chips. The chips were super crispy — perfect! Current seating consists of one large communal table and a short expanse of bar with stools — probably a total of no more than 15 seats. I suspect that there’s going to be a continuing requirement for more seating so wouldn’t be surprised to see that change. In addition to the wide variety of items on the breakfast and lunch menus a display case had ribs, wild salmon, smoked chicken and various cold cuts and sausages available for purchase. I’ll be a frequent customer, and whenever I have visitors in town the Chesapeake Bay Chip Co. will be a «must do» item during their stay.
