Unbelievably bad experience! Booked a room here 11 months early because one night per year every room in this tiny town sells out due to a 545 mile charity bike ride called Aidslifecycle of which I am a participant. Today I received a phone call telling me that my reservation which is 4 and a half months from now has been cancelled due to plumbing problems. Now every room in King City is sold out. The closest room I can find now is 20 miles away. How on earth can these idiots decided to be making plumbing repairs on the one and only day of the year that anyone would ever choose to stay here? Let alone their biggest money making day of the year. My suspicion is that they will magically finish the repairs earlier then offer everyone their rooms back for quadruple the rate. What a horribly run business! Shame on you Super 8!

Okay, okay — frame of reference people. This is a motel in the middle of nowhere. Don’t expect fabulous amenities or even the warmest of welcomes. It’s just a place to rest your head while you’re on the road, or like us — avoiding camping at the San Antonio Recreational area nearby. While most motels/hotels within a 60-mile radius were sky high, we got lucky and snagged a few nights here for only $ 90 a night while attending Lighting in a Bottle this past weekend. We decided that we were too old not to have real showers, real bathrooms or even a bed to rest in after a day of walking around in the hot sun, cause let’s be honest, we were sweaty and filthy at the end of each day. Was this the nicest place we’ve ever stayed? Absolutely not, but there were some pretty good pros on why it was a good choice: PROS: — Lots of parking — Free wi-fi — Café for breakfast in the same parking lot with decent croissant sandwiches — Flatscreen TV — Comfy beds — Fridge, microwave + coffee maker if you choose to use that stuff — Closer to amenities like a grocery + drug store, and a Starbucks across the street CONS: — Shower drained slow — Long hairs in the shower… definitely not mine — If you’re into swimming, the pool is in the middle of the parking lot and super small — It’s a combination of updated and outdated. Luckily the beds were on the updated part of the equation — The continental breakfast they offered isn’t really a breakfast, but some snacks — use the money you’re saving and walk next door for breakfast or grab and go at Starbucks The housekeeping staff was nice, and even the lady at the front that everyone said was mean was just a little rough around the edges. Once you talked to her, she was actually really nice and helpful — she helped us find some late night dining(even though it was a Denny’s) and remembered that I had called to tell her we were going to be arriving late. If, for some random reason I ended up in King City again, I’d stay here for the night. It served its purpose!

Pet-friendly vinyl floors. Nice flat-screen TV. Microwave and refrigerator. Nearby to fast-food & Starbucks. But… No coffee maker in room! Left note for housekeeping, but no results. Housekeeping: Took our hung-up used towels and DIDNOTREPLACETOWELS. VERY loud outside our room mid-day while we were trying to take a nap. Mold/mildew inside bathtub handle/knob.

A stay full of disappointments. First, the ad we read from the main Super 8 website said there was a hot tub, modernized rooms and continental breakfast. We arrived and after checking in, found out they have filled in the hot tub with concrete. While the furniture in the room is nice, we found the outside sidewalk in front of rooms to be filthy. There is no door mat to wipe your feet, so after realizing how our shoes were tracking in A LOT of dirt, we put down a hand towel to wipe our feet & keep the hard wood floor reasonably clean. We did sleep good, mattress was good and it is very quiet(only three other cars in the parking lot on a Friday night). In the morning, when we made coffee, we found two old wet coffee packets in the coffee maker. Yuck… Who knows how long they’d been sitting inside the coffee maker. The coffee maker is set up high on top of fridge & microwave, difficult to see where to poor water. We had to move the fridge cabinet to get to the plug so we could take the filter cup to the sink to rinse. A definite inconvenience. Then we went to enjoy the«continental» breakfast. I didn’t expect much mind you, but was even more disappointed. Choices included frozen Lego waffles, milk, cold cereal, instant oatmeal, milk, coffee and«Tang» type OJ. There was also singly pre-packaged cinnamon rolls. No toast, bagels, cream cheese, or decent rolls. When we went to take showers, we found the shower faucet very loose & on the border of non-functional and very little water pressure. A disappointing shower on top of every thing else. No wonder no one stays here. Gave this place one star for the nice furniture.

The front desk lady is SORUDE! She called our room at 11:20ish A.M. and asked if we were staying another night; I said«no, we’re checking out in about 30 minutes.» She immediately went into attack mode and said check out was 11, so I apologized and said we thought it was at noon because that’s what it says on the door. She said«yeah, but check out is 11 and that’s why we had you sign the agreement» uhhh. ok first of all, we arrived super late at night and they didn’t even mention check out or point it out as a courtesy. I then asked for a late check out and apologized again for the misunderstanding, pointing out that I THOUGHT it said noon on (I was thinking of motel 6 which is SOMUCHBETTER) and then she started practically yelling at me and said«No it doesn’t and I’m going to check when I hang up because I know for a fact it doesn’t!» I really didn’t feel like fighting and never once did I match her defensive tone so I just thanked her and said we’ll try to hurry. What I wanted to say was«You try driving across the country in a completely packed car with a cat for 6 days straight on very little sleep and then try to keep all the different motel check outs straight.» Honestly it doesn’t matter, because every place gives a late check out. What matters is customer service and making sure your guests are taken care of and have a pleasant stay! Also, the heater in our bathroom wouldn’t turn off and it was so hot in there that I felt like I was going to pass out every time I walked in. My advice to Unilocalers is to spend an extra couple bucks and stay at the other motel next to them. My advice to Super 8 is to tell customers«I know the doors say check out is at noon, but it’s actually at 11» or take the sign off the doors. Also, send your front desk lady to a customer service training.
