Barry General Dentistry

Excellent care from the receptionists, Office Manager, Dentists, Oral Surgeon, Dental Assistants, and Dental Hygenists! I am a Healthcare provider myself so this speaks volumes.

I saw a solicitation from this dental office Because it is nearby, and I could get an appointment relatively quickly, I thought I would try this dentist. I requested an examination, treatment plan, and cleaning. When I arrived at the office, I was offered the «Quality Dental Program» in lieu of the normal pricing. The plan included examination, xrays, and two cleanings, for about $ 300. The exact nature of the dental «insurance» was a little vague, but I decided that the offered services were worth the price.
A woman representing herself as a hygentisit examined my mouth, recording existing dental work and gum pocket depth. Some recession has occurred over my lifetime, but the pocket depth was not materially different compared to previous examinations. Hygentist strongly recommended periodontal, deep cleaning, which I had more than 30 years ago, with no significant affect on my dental health. A price was quoted for periodontal cleaning, per quadrant of the mouth. The total was nearly $ 1000 and I declined the offer. Hygentist DECLINED to clean my teeth, strongly recommending her periodontal cleaning. She even made a disparaging comment about the standard cleaning being a little polish. The dentist, Autumn Griffin, examined my mouth and various dental issues. She gave me a «treatment plan» which I took away to study and decide what to do. I think she decided that she had to low ball the quote to have a chance to get me to buy services in this office. I want appropriate, trustworthy care, not necessarily the lowest cost care. I DID NOT GET WHAT I DESIRED AND CONTRACTED FOR, A COSMETIC CLEANING IN ADDITION TO THE EXAMINATION AND X-​RAYS. Interestingly, this general dentist has a periodontist as a staff member. It makes me wonder how often periodontal treatment is recommended, in contrast to other dentist who refer periodontal care to other specialists.
I don’t recall the exact details now, but dentist Autumn Griffin examined me again, providing a detailed treatment plan.
I eventually got a recommendation for a dentist in another venue, and I visited him. His dental hygentist cleaned my teeth, measured the pockets, and offered her opinion that I did NOT need periodontal intervention, when I asked the specific question. The pocket depth varied, but was not abnormal. The dentist examined my mouth extensively, and gave me a treatment plan, with several options. I actually compared Dr. Griffin’s recommendations with Dr. L*‘s plan; they mostly agreed, but Dr. Griffin’s had 3 fillings which Dr. L* did not believe required any attention, and Dr L* recommended a root canal and crown to a tooth which Dr. Griffin proposed to yank out. At my age, I want to keep everything which can be saved, even if the monetary cost is more.
I eventually had the proposed dental work performed by Dr. L*, even though the expense was greater, it took 6 or 7 visits, and the travel time was an hour each way, compared to 5 minutes to Barry General Dentist.
Dr. L* is more experienced and older, which may resonate better with me, but I trust his judgment and recommendations, whereas I do not trust Barry General Dentistry’s advice. Various questions now occur to me: is the hygentist financially incentivized when recommending periodontal cleaning, in contrast to standard cleanings? When I had periodontal cleaning many (300) moons ago, the dentist performed the cleaning, not a technician. Are all hygentists approved/​authorized to perform periodontal cleanings? Is there specialized training? There are more interesting questions, but I will stop here.…
As it turns out, the dental work I hired at Dr. L*‘s establishment was actually more expensive than what Barry Dental recommend, so cost was not the issue. Trust and confidence in the medical advise (where the hell is the spell checker???) is paramount, IMHO. Advising the patient what is the best medical treatment is the duty and obligation of medical professional, regardless of the financial outcome for the medical professional’s business. Conflict of interest is a serious issue!
It will be interesting to see if Barry General Dentist responds to this thoughtful review.
BTW, digital x-​rays are modern, but not necessarily better than tried and true film.
UPDATE: Dr. Barry called me in a timely manner after I talked with the office staff. She listened to my recounting of the experience with her office. She answered some questions, among other things explaining that hygentisit’s are qualified and authorized to perform many procedures, including anesthetization, in western states. She offered to refund the payment I had made, but I only requested ½ the payment, which she quickly refunded by check. I revise my rating to 2 and wish her well.

Both Dr. Barry and Dr. Griffin have worked on my teeth, for check ups, cleanings, and fillings.
My first visit took a while, as they had to give me a full exam and take X-​rays and what not. But that’s understandable, and every other time I’ve gone in, they’ve been super quick!
I have been impressed by the friendly staff every time I’ve been in, and they do a great job on my teeth! I’m definitely going to keep coming to Barry General Dentistry.

I have been bouncing around dentists after several insurance changes. Barry General Dentistry would take my medicare based insurance so I scheduled an appointment. 3 days before the appointment, I tripped on a poorly maintained sidewalk while trying to turn our dog walk to a jog. I landed face first. When they called to confirm the appointment, they said to come in anyway. I was expecting that I would get xrays for a first checkup and teeth cleaning. What I didn’t expect is that they would examine my injured lip and take care of it too. The doctor had it X Rayed as it felt like I might have something embedded in it. I didn’t but I was impressed with the extra mile they went to check me out. In further discussion with my follow up visit today, Dr. Griffin said that they were the place to come for mouth injuries too.
I can’t comment on Dr. Barry as I was treated by her associate, Dr. Griffin. I was very impressed with her and the care she provided. I just hope my insurance doesn’t force me to change dentists again. I think I have found my forever dentist.

This place is the best. I have been going to Barry General for years now and they have always helped me and been extremely informative in teaching me how to take care of my teeth. Since I myself am not a Dentist I put a lot of value in being informed on what is going on and what i need to change to keep my teeth healthy. Plus they have great personal skills so I always feel remembered when i go in and can pick up the conversation where we left off.
I definitely recommend Barry General Dentistry!

I first went here from a coupon I received in the mail while living in Kirkland. The coupon included a sonicare or teeth whitening kit, I chose the sonicare. I had originally thought that a lady dentist would be better than man I previously had. I could have not been more wrong, apparently I am a very difficult patient??? To get three fillings took 3 hours and made me late for work. They also left a notch in one of my teeth towards the rear. I would not recommend Barry Dentistry to anyone in Totem Lake, One bad experience ruined it for me.

I have finally received some resolution for the issue I had with my dental work. I was surprised to receive a full refund. I am grateful for their solution. I hope that this will help them to understand that full communication and compassion for their patients in necessary and important to build solid relationships. Dr. Barry has been my dentist for about 2 years now. A really clean and well-​run dentistry. Between the x-​rays I get with the Navy and Dr. Barry’s office, I found her x-​ray machines to be be more precise or more powerful. Her x-​rays caught small cavities the Navy’s x-​ray machines did not catch. Her office put in a beautiful crown for me. I recommend Dr. Barry’s office for dental work.

Wonderful busy office with a great team of professionals. Dr. Barry is very personable, and informative without over selling. She has a very reasonable program for those of us without dental insurance, which I am taking advantage of. She can now make crowns right in her office for more efficient service to her patients. Great business!

All staff at Barry General Dentistry are «Top-​Notch» professionals. My three children, my wife and I have all moved over because of the level of service and friendly environment. We are well informed of potential issues, treatment is easy and unmatched. My children are never afraid, and I look forward to our visits.

Hands down, the most gentle and understanding dentist I’ve ever gone to. And I’m a real pansy when it comes to going to the dentist! Dr. Barry and her staff are wonderful!

I love my dentist office! I’ve had some major work here and have always felt very comfortable and in good hands with the staff. Dr. Barry is adorable, professional and always has her patients best interest in mind. :) The front office and hygienist are also really kind and considerate.
The location is very convenient off 405 and a hop, skip and a jump from my office in Bothell. They have some great first time patient offers and a special right now for teeth whitening for $ 300. They carry several products like Sonicare and other oral health products (but not pushy at all, which I’ve experienced in other offices). Dr. Barry also seems to have a lot of upgraded equipment for her procedures and I love seeing my x-​rays on the screen right away (cool!) lol.
I actually use to see Dr. Barry at another office before she started her own practice. I am happy to continue to give her my business and would like you to consider giving yours to her as well.

Caring, Friendly, Highly Recommend! — I’ve never enjoyed going to the dentist, and wasn’t thrilled about finding a new one in Kirkland. But, after my visit with Dr. Barry and her awesome team I was so relaxed before, during, and after. I felt they really cared about me and I wasn’t just a number. I really liked their enthusiastic hygienist who was very gentle and friendly. Dr. Barry has a great team and I give them my highest recommendation!
