Cook Out

Good food, great prices. I’m not the first to say that. I got a combo with a decent bbq sandwich, mini quesadilla, bacon wrap, and s soda for $ 4.99. Wish I got a milkshake. Friendly staff, clean (the restaurant, that is, tho the staff looked pretty clean, I guess). For fast and cheap, this place does a great job.

The absolute worst experience that I have ever had at any cookout. I travel all state locations (Tenn, NC, SC, GA) and I frequent the franchise often. This location had the worst service and the absolute worst food in all of my hundred + experiences. The bun was hard, the burger was cooked to a crusty charcoal exterior shell and an insanely dry core. If I had to guess, the chili was 2 days old and milkshake order was all wrong. The employees lacked every desire to serve and were rude. I am totally disgusted with this location.

Fist visit to cookout, great food at a great price. The burgers rival higher priced restaurants. Looking forward to more restaurants to open in my area.

Cook out offers a good burger with with interesting and varying side item choices. I had the western style and my spouse had the cheddar burger. We both enjoyed the burger and the sides. The side options include quesadilla’s, fries, corn dogs, and other options. All of the sides that we ordered were tasty and a nice change up from norm. We will defiantly be returning.

Omg! I ordered a shake and then waited like 5 minutes. So the chick at the front yelled «shake up» and I went up there to find it was someone else’s shake! But I took it anyway! I didn’t like it. Oreo and mint. bleh! Would not go here again!

This was my first time at a Cookout. It is fastfood. I’d say the fries are just ok. The burger had a better flavor than a lot of fast food. The menu is huge! I mean hotdogs, corndogs, quesadillas, wraps, burgers, chicken, fish sandwiches, and barbecue.
The special was for $ 4.99, you get one main, two «sides», and a drink. I got a regular burger, but you can also get a double burger. Most of the mains were sandwiches. I remember you could also get two hot dogs as a main. The sides were fries, chicken nuggets (you get three), hushpuppies, a wrap, a quesadilla, etc. Those are some interesting sides. You can upgrade your drink to a milk shake for a $ 1.
This place is crazy, but it’s fun with all those crazy choices.

I am glad in theory that a cheap, Christian-​operated restaurant is open so late at night, but no sane person would eat here during normal business hours. Even when you only order a milkshake, the cup is dripping with grease and fried meat. I have received food poisoning from eating here on multiple occasions, so the health inspector really should take a closer look at what’s going on in the kitchen.
It would also be nice if they had some vegetarian options on the menu, but one should not put too much faith in miracles.

This is late night fare, plain and simple. The milkshake menu is diverse, the combo meal options are unique, and they’re open later than almost anyone on the Strip.
I wouldn’t choose to eat here at a normal meal time, but when nothing else is open, I’m extremely grateful for Cookout! Gotta love the mediocre fries with Cajun seasoning (upon request), and the cherry cheesecake milkshake is a solid bet.

I went to the location on Kingston Pike on an errand for my dad who was in the hospital and wanted a hamburger: at 10:30 am. I was happy to find this place! Not only was it pick your own toppings the price was right. $ 2.99 for your basic chargrilled burger. Cheese and bacon extra. An endless shake menu (skipped) and hushpuppies for .99. Place was such a hit we went back after a Lady Vols game.

Good food and great prices. I enjoyed a chicken quesadilla and Cajun fries while my husband had a burger and a corn dog. The Cajun fries were made to order which was nice. I did have to take stars away for one, I brought my infant daughter. We have been on the road all day and we’re excited for a clean place to change her diaper but there was no diaper changing station. Secondly, we were stuck in our parking lot for a long time because inconsiderate people in the drive thru kept blocking us in.

Worst meal I have eaten. The barbecue tastes worse than frozen microwaved grocery store outdated clearance damaged boxed product. The cole slaw was cabbage and mayo– yuck. The hush puppies looked like dead lady fingers, they were hard and dry. The fries were your regular frozen variety. The burger was a small little clump on a bun. The cherry cobbler shake was ok.

First time here. Lots of menu choices. 40 kinds of shakes. 4 different sizes of burgers. I got a regular which is 2.79. Pretty small but tasty. Very good onion rings. Inside is little old and warn out. Glad I stopped.

This place is good. Fine. Nothing special about the burgers, but the prices are great. 99 cents hot dog, burgers were good and made to your liking with the toppings, I kind of wish they had asked how to cook it (medium, well done) as I like my burgers juicy.
Good little spot with the typical drinks, but I also liked that they had chicken and other options.

Best burger in Knoxville… The only one I’ve had, but it beats macs/​wendys/​bk etc. the BBQ burger is best with their coleslaw.

When my mom was at UT Hospital, my dad and I would drive over to Cook Out whenever we wanted to escape hospital food — they’re located on the main strip of UT campus, very close to Alcoa Hwy. The burgers and chicken are chargrilled, everything is inexpensive, service is friendly, and they have 40 different flavors of milkshake :) A college student’s dream but a favorite hangout for Frugal Foodie too.
½ LB BURGER — $ 2.99
Burgers are fresh, homemade and chargrilled. Better than fast food and just $ 2.99. Most toppings are free but tomatoes are an extra $.10. ½ burger is two patties. FYI, the ¼ lb burger is $ 2.49.
CHARGRILLED CHICKEN BREAST, BARBEQUE STYLE — $ 3.39
Very good sandwich and loved the grilled flavor.
CHOPPED PORK BBQ SANDWICH — $ 2.79
My dad would always order this — BBQ has a nice vinegary flavor. Also comes w/​homemade slaw and Texas Pete.
FRENCH FRIES — $ 1.49 (large)
The large order is enough for two people to share. Good fries. You can also get it w/​Cajun seasoning (free). We always asked for no-​salt fries and they were great about doing this.
OREO MINT MILKSHAKE — $ 2.49
Soooooo … good and you get a lot of milkshake. Shared the one milkshake w/​my dad and we could only finish half. They have almost every flavor you can think of – 40 total!
As some of the other reviews mention, I’m guessing Cook Out is Christian-​owned based on the Psalm 118:24 printed on the beverage cups and the Christian music playing in the background. Staff is very nice, place is very popular w/​families and students, and the drive-​thru line is always very long.
Definitely recommend if you’re near UT campus or hospital.

Good food, good price, pretty fast vast menu and they have CHEERWINE. The burgers and dogs taste about what you’d expect at a cookout. I’m not much for the fries, both locations (this one and one in NC) I’ve tried they are not quit done enough for me. Not crisp. They’re still good though.
The burgers and dogs can be done almost anyway you like with damn near anything you want for condiments. Want a chiliburger? Slawdog? They’ll fix you up. The slaw is really good too, just sweet enough to suit me.
Anyways, for the money it pretty much blows any chain I can think of away, not to mention the variety. I doubt if they’d ever go national with the current menu, but that’s cool. I doubt they intend to anyway.
As for the Christian thing, yes I’ve seen some scriptures (like on my latest cup hasProverbs 1:7 God Bless America, no the actual scripture don’t say that, but the cup does) and that don’t bother me a bit. I wonder if people that go to Oriental or Indian restaurants understand some of the things they have and what the meaning behind them is. When I go to eat, I don’t care about that stuff. I just want decent service and good food or which Cook Out has.
This isn’t the place to get a gourmet burger nor if you like to be with the great unwashed masses. That’s why I like it.
Sooner or later I’ll try the BBQ, chicken and shakes but I’m pretty happy with the burgers and dogs so far.

3-​stars for the place, until I found a fried hair in my food. I’m sick just thinking of it.
Visited recently at lunch hour and was disgusted beyond all belief. Now that I think of it the floors were super sticky too, perhaps they could use some lessons in hygiene.
Otherwise it was good. Won’t return.

This place wasn’t there when I lived in Knoxville. Good thing, too, as it no doubt would have been responsible for a Freshmen Thirty weight gain.
I didn’t try the food, I only went for the shakes. It was 107 degrees in Knoxville in June, and my sister and I needed an ice cream fix. I figured Cook Out would have the typical McDonald’s-like shake selection, but oh no. There were at least 40 options, maybe more. The ice cream was super thick, so much so it was hard to sip through a straw. They had some pretty complex flavors, though I had the banana pudding shake and my sister the peanut butter fudge. Both get two hearty thumbs up.
The place was packed – and while school was out, too, when usually the Strip is deserted – so I’m guessing Cook Out is pretty popular with the student crowd and not in danger of going anywhere anytime soon.

I flew into Knoxville with my fiancé back in January to visit some friends and family.
My friend picked us up at the airport and we were starving! Airline peanuts… not very filling…
The only thing open was the Cook Out, and I’m glad! Otherwise I may have opted for something more mainstream and well-​known.
The food was priced at an unbelievably low price! I was excited already.
The food was fresh, plentiful, and delicious. :)
I got a hamburger and fries, I also tasted the chicken nuggets.
For the price and speed of the service (and time of night), this place was great. I would definitely go here again when I am in the area.
