Great little spot for some DELICIOUS meats! I really enjoyed the #1 sauce, their house sauce. The notes of clove really open up the smokey flavor of the meat. My partner and I swung through on our way back to Baltimore, MD from Marfa, TX… Worth the stop. Come hungry!!!

The best part was the okra. Ribs aren’t too bad, but the chicken had an odd taste. Couldn’t put my finger on it(campfire, maybe). The pork was lean but dry. Sauces are store bought…

I try to get to smokin j’s once a month, everything is out of the park. Try the smoked bologna. I throw one on every time I smoke, and I’ve never been able to touch what these guys do with it.

Love places like this! Hubby and I traveling through Tennessee and I consulted Unilocal for pulled pork. Great tip — very good pulled pork sandwich with small cup of good slaw. Also tried fried okra which was good and we split a pig burger to see what that was. Can’t give that a rave; we thought it was fairly bland even though it came with grilled onions on it. Also it came on white bread which seemed odd. We wanted to stop in today on our way back but they’re closed Sundays.

What’s up with the sauce! I couldn’t put my finger on what kind of floral taste I was tasting but I read a review on here– cloves! Jee whizz it hardly tastes like a bbq sauce. But Ya I didn’t get any thing other than fries and sauce but the fries were cooked but soggy as hell … :(bummer.

Best BBQ in Knoxville! The meat is incredible and the sides, especially the fried okra, are perfect. I couldn’t believe how much food we got for the price. The staff was friendly and inviting. I did not like the house BBQ sauce, but many others love it. We will definitely return.

After searching all over Knoxville for a decent BBQ place, this is it! Great food, especially the ribs. The staff was also very friendly. Thanks for a great dinner!

The good: Clean place, super friendly service, and when you walk-in it smells like smoked meat heaven! The bad: Sauces are, I shit you not, store bought. I get it, sauce is hard, but dang! Sweet Baby Ray’s and either Bullseye or KC Masterpiece, IIRC. I mean, so many of us use Kraft as a base and then add a little whang to it. So I guess this is more«neutral» than«bad» to be fair. Parking is OK, but trying to leave here can be awkward depending on traffic. The ugly: Cloves. Lots and lots of cloves. Too damn many cloves. Cloves on the meat, cloves in the sauce, it is a decent flavor in BBQ if it’s used subtly, very subtly. In this case, it’s quite a bit overdone. I’m not exactly a BBQ«purist,» but the cloves were a bit much. Otherwise, this is decent. With so many BBQ choices, at least they are doing something different here at Smokin’ J’s.

I stop in sometimes for their pulled pork sandwiches and used them twice for catering. Food has been consistent and their sauces are good. During both of our catering events(20 – 25 people), we received many compliments on the food. I would recommend.

Best Barbecue I have ever had. Clean: Spotless. Food: Wonderful Ribs, They fell off the bone and melted in the mouth. Sauce #3 is sweet but really good. I fully recommend this place.

Delicious! Basically same menu as B and D tin shack which formerly inhabited this spot. I will repeat some things from my review of that establishment herein. First, the sauce is amazing and reminiscent of Brother Jack’s and the glory days of Dixson. They also have three sauces and hot sauce on the table. I like sauce #1 because I love the clove taste. Pulled pork is fantastic, and the brisket was delicious. Fried okra was piping hot, crispy and salted just right. Baked beans were pretty good. The small sandwich IS small so order up if you’re extra hungry. They also have ribs, grilled chicken wings, turkey legs, and a pig burger. No desserts to my knowledge. Check this place out after a day hike at House Mountain !

They have the best BBQ sauce in Knoxville. The fried cabbage is really good too. I highly recommend this place. It’s one of Knoxville’s undiscovered gems. The place is spotless clean. They have a 100 rating from the health inspector. The staff is friendly and helpful.
