Big Smokey’s BBQ

I checked this place out after hearing about it 2 months ago, So I went Thursday night which is Happy Hour 6/​9pm with .99 cent drinks in plastic cups and DJ playing music. I ordered the sample which consist of small portions of beef rib/​brisket/​chicken/​sausage and slice of bread for $ 5. Meat was good and tender and could tell it was BBQ and not oven cooked and thrown on pit to get smoke favor. This is a BBQ Restaurant/​Club young/​old all came out to eat/​party.

«Adults Only» 8-​Midnight, tells you this place is not your ordinary BBQ joint, and perhaps La Marque has some pretty rowdy children. To support this theory, I notice there is a drive through and an outdoor deck, in case the children are too rambunctious to bring inside.
Note: This place is closed Monday-​Wednesday. Hmmm. Maybe the adults are rowdy, too, if it takes 3 days to recover from a weekend.
‘Big Smokey’ is the professional 15 ft BBQ pit, where meat is slowly cooked. And indeed the beef brisket is very moist and tender. It is less smoky-​flavored than my favorite haunts, however.
My order was beef brisket ½ lb sandwich. Sounds like a lot, but half of the brisket is fat. Peel that off, and you have a quarter pounder for $ 7. This is a rather stiff price for a sandwich. The Lucille’s BBQ sauce is very dark and bit heavy on the syrup for my taste. I like sauce a bit spicier. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the meal, and it was a bit different than most places.
The owners are genuine folk, happy and eager to please.
Big Smokeys reaches out to the community and families with events occasionally held here; for example, to inspire kids in their education. But, after 8:00 pm (6 on Sundays), the adults reach out to Smokeys for relief. BigS has a late night supper club environment for adults to have an evening out. As their website says: «Big Smokey’s is building a multi-​cultural environment where you’ll be able to eat, drink, exchange, view, motivate, listen to poetry, listen to music, and even dance. Big Smokey’s is a place for everyone!»
