Their donuts are smaller than most places and their filled donuts are simply cut in half and filled like a sandwich. I swear too that almost all their donuts had a lemony hint to their taste. If you’re like me, and you go «Heh, well it’s donuts… and it’s on the way.» just skip it. go somewhere else. Im used to mary’s donuts and Christy’s Donuts on jamacha and washington who are pretty darn good. So to me this place doesn’t really do donuts justice compared to Christy’s and Mary’s.

Wow, Best Donuts has done a makeover and now they have added pastries! The food is fresh and extremely reasonable in cost. The staff is friendly and always have a smile on their face. The store is very clean but it is set back from the street, so it may be a little hard to see — but definitely worth looking for. This is by far the best donut shop in the La Mesa/Rancho San Diego area. Think they should update the store name to Best Donuts and Pastries! Thanks for the great food! Please add photos of your pastries to your site.

I very seldom get donuts. The last time I was in the area and stopped by Best Donuts the older gentleman was very nice and accommodating and the donuts were comparable to most others. This morning when the sun was just peeking over the horizon going to work, I stopped by for a donut and coffee. They renovated the place since the last time I was there and the donuts were incredibly fresh and delicious with great coffee. The person behind the counter could not have been nicer.

Ever since the new owner has taken over this place has improved immensely. I like the local and friendly service, and the place has been cleaned thoroughly throughout. The donuts taste much better as well. This place has become one of my favorite donut places in La Mesa. I highly recommend a visit to reacquaint yourself with the new owner and donuts. Really like the Apple Fritters.

They made the perfect doughnuts. So fresh! I believe this is the new owner, it tastes totally different from the last time I’ve tried.

I got lost after driving from a garage sale and literally ended up on this corner and saw DONUTS. This is perfect since my hub was still in bed wondering where the heck I went. So I pulled up to park literally 2 steps into the shop. Was greeted by the older gentleman with a smile. I picked out maple, a stuffed chocolate croissant, chocolate with coconut, and this delicious twisted filled with chocolate. Total came out to a little over $ 4. To the owner: can you please start making maple bacon donuts I would be there every Sunday haha. Took them to go since the warm sun was shining into the donut window and hub was going to be surprised when I got home. This was a winner good location and freshly made.

The old man behind the counter was really sweet but the donuts tasted like crap. It breaks my hurt because the people are so freaking nice but I think I will not be going back… Ever.

Nasty, filthy place, top to bottom. The variety was poor, the donuts were not really fresh, there were flies all over, and the man behind the counter abruptly said«cash only, I have no machine, go get cash from liquor store next door» when my wife pulled out her ATM card. What a rude little a-hole. Since Christy’s sucks now too, looks like Rancho and El Cajon need a new, GOOD, mom and pop donut shop. I’ve been here dozens of times, but I’ll never come to this dump again. Neither should you.

These are terrible. The chocolate taste like the inside of nail salon. They are either average day old donuts or below average donuts. Our toddler won’t even eat them.

This is a definite hole in the wall shop. It’s cluttered and dirty. They only take cash which is a pain now days. There are no sights staying this. I didn’t know until after I picked out my dozen. Had to run next door to the liquor store for cash. The doughnuts are different, they are heavy. Almost cake like. I like light fluffy ones. The taste was not bad but not great. I most likely won’t be stopping in again.

I love these donuts. The donuts are always fresh and the owner is very nice. The apple fritters are delicious! They are crispy on the outside and fluffy/doughy on the inside. My favorite from here is the cheese croissant! So yummy. The best part is, they are super cheap! The only downside is they are cash only.

I wasn’t impressed, I purchased a variety and they all tasted like they were at least a day old. I should of known when I arrived on a Sunday morning and the place was empty.

There’s something wrong with the chocolate glaze — it tastes like rancid oil. So bummed

Ummmmmmmm I posted a pic a few days back praising this place but I tasted the chocolate donuts… You know that acrylic nail stuff? The intoxicating smell? The chocolate donuts taste like that & one of the glazed donuts grew moss or something green/black it was rotten I guess… Hmmm I don’t like giving bad reviews specially cause the man was a sweetheart but I WONT be coming back here again… Sorry :-(I couldn’t seem to get that nasty taste off of my mouth :-(

Yuucckkk. I tried them out as I was nearby on a weekday at 9:00 a.m. I should have been suspicious when it was dead empty. My raised chocolate donut was not only stale it was very bad tasting, like maybe bad oil? I threw it out. The other reviews look legit… so maybe they were just having a bad day.

This place opens up early for business at 4:30 am. I came in to pick up some doughnuts for some colleagues and a few students. I picked a bakers dozen of mixed doughnuts for the peeps, but for me I picked up a old fashion bar with chocolate and a few sprinkled doughnuts for pupils.( ) The students no doubt enjoyed there sprinkles because they quickly devoured them. Me, I savored my with a great cup. I enjoyed the chocolate on the outside and the crunchy outside of the doughnut, but the inside was not as moist and soft as I have experience with this type of doughnut.( ) It tasted good, but moistness was just not there. The doughnut holes were kinda on the small side. Overall, they were just good doughnuts, but nothing to go bonkers over. The man who was running the place when I arrived was actually snoozing behind the counter. I startled him because I gently walked in a took a snap shot of the place. It was kinda funny.( ) They counters were well stocked with the doughnuts ready for the long day.

Pretty good donuts! but they should call this place Depressing Donuts. theres no music! so silent in here and just a lonely little old asian lady taking orders. sad ;__;
