4th Dimension Computers

Not impressed with this place at all. Go with anyone else in the area or make the drive to Tacoma instead.
Called to find out how much it would be to do a data transfer from an older laptop to a new one (we are not tech savvy at all). Had to go through a long telephone prompt and then sat and waited, and waited, and waited for over 5 minutes for someone to even answer the phone. When someone finally answered we were told 39.99. Ok, seems legit since we don’t know how to do it ourselves and we don’t want to lose data, music, etc.
We drop the computers off and two days later get a voice mail message saying our older computer has the newer version of ios on it and the new computer needed to be upgraded. They then said it would be 39 to do that. I don’t know a lot about computers but I do know that it takes a simple push of a button for ios to download the newest update (would you like to update now? — annnnnnnd tap yes and wait a bit and voila you are done). 39 for this? Seems like serious gouging. We assumed the new laptop would have the latest update otherwise we would have done it before dropping it off.
So, I called back (got put on hold for only 3 minutes this time) and asked, nicely, to make sure I understood the charge correctly. The attendant got snippy with me and said, «it has to sit on our shelf while we update it — I don’t understand the big deal with the charge». Uhhhhhhhh. Ok. I guess they can set their unfair prices and I can go somewhere else with my business.
So we picked the computers up today, I upgraded the system (very quickly and easily) and found someone else to do the data transfer for 10.00 cheaper and with a day turn around — when I was told it would be several days here.
I understand they are seemingly the only game in town — but look elsewhere. I like to support small local businesses but price gouging and non existent customer service doesn’t warrant support. It appears that several others feel the same way after reading reviews for this place.

I’ve really appreciated the quick help and support provided at 4^th dimension. They hooked me up with an incredibly affordable refurbished computer to finish school with, and even after the warranty was over, they were quick to help affordably get my computer back on track after a Microsoft meltdown.
One warning, these are your typical computer guys, not a lot of small chat or BS. They get to business and get you out the door, so if you’re looking for someone to gossip about the Kardashians with, I would suggest going to one of those big box stores.

I was traveling for business and needed a power cord for my laptop. Not only did they fix me up, when I discovered I also had a battery issue preventing computer from powering up, the owner/​manager took the time to pop the case and check all the connections until he got it working– at no charge. Thanks guys!

Nearly 5 years ago I needed a new computer, one with lots of horsepower, because I practically live in Photoshop, working on huge file sizes. Ned, my salesperson, helped me with configuring my machine. I had to prod him to upgrade some of the components, because he was trying to save me money. When it came to selecting a case, there were many models to choose. The one I liked best was painted red, so I affectionately call my 4^th Dimension Computer «The Red Rocket», because it flies!
Here it is 5 years later. I had one occasion to call on 4^th Dimension Computer, about a year ago. I just couldn’t get it to boot up. When I arrived at the tech support desk, I had to wait no more than 5 minutes for help. Turned out 4^th Dimension Computer discovered that I had inadvertently put The Red Rocket to ‘sleep’. Ooooooooooops on my part. That support after 4 years was still included in my purchase price.
Guess where I’ll be going for my next computer? 4^th Dimension Computer, of course.
I HIGHLY recommend these pros for competence, integrity, quality and price.

I have dealt with 4d for many years since moving to the Oly area over 16 years ago. They have always been very helpful and have given me lots of good advice over the years, many times not charging me for fixing little things. I was thrilled when they moved to Lacey, as I hate going downtown Oly.
It is great to have a local company who has people who are very knowledgeable. I don’t know about the bad reviews here. People need to remember that we are all human. Humans make mistakes sometimes. If you’re not happy, maybe try talking to the manager instead of being upset and not getting what you feel you paid for!

My mother purchased a new computer from this store. Ever since then it’s been nothing but problems. I wish I’d been with her when she first bought the thing as I found out they build their own computers. It’s been back for repairs twice and now, less than a month later, the sound isn’t working. Every time you take it in to get repaired it’s at least a few days to get it back. She agrees in retrospect that it would’ve been a lot easier and a lot cheaper to buy a computer at Costco

I brought my wife’s laptop in because it wasn’t charging. I checked the power cord prior and it had no power that, that I could tell. I wanted a second opinion and brought it to 4^th dimension for a diagnosis. The pompous bearded guy jiggled the power jack and told me it would be $ 220.00 minimum to fix. I asked if he could check the cord and he again told me it was a loose power jack.
Today I got my new power cord from amazon and the laptop is charging.
I would have liked to support a local business but the fact the service guy wouldn’t even check a power cord, and had to be a douche nozzle the whole time I will not goto 4^th dimension again. I would be wary of their service department.

I recently purchased a laptop from Emily at the Lacey 4^th Dimension store, as I was going to have to put some serious money into the laptop that had just crashed. I was immediately greated by Emily, who was super nice and is a Star Wars fan (the yin to my Tolkien yang). She helped me pick out a computer that was just what I told her I needed: something with acceptable upgrade capabilities (up to two TB hard drive and 8g RAM) with a classic keyboard.
After I chose a new laptop, she sent it to the Yelm store, free of charge, and without down payment, to be laden with the serious amount of higgetly piggelty that was on my old laptop, which was sitting, crashed and forlorn, in the Yelm store. I picked up the new one and the old one and was on my way.
I was helped immediately, was treated like a real human being, and I have no complaints. Thank you, Emily. May the force be with you!

If you offer my fiancée $ 500 for a computer which is better than what you sell for $ 3000 and you say «its because you don’t know if it will move». You offer $ 500 though — it is more than an insult, you are trying to con someone.
If you are a store and you are not interested in buying something, that is one thing. If you decide to just low ball someone and you think that’s okay — why would I do business with you if I no longer trust you?
I don’t trust this business anymore, anyone that would take advantage of the underinformed is not trustworthy in my book.
I e-​mailed the management, have not gotten a response back.

So here is a update. Buddy Stevens, Sales & Marketing in 4^th Dimension contacted me after he read my Unilocal review. We met at the store today, and he took care of everything to resolve the issues: Got me USB cable for my iPhone to replace my original one that was taken by their other customer. And he fixed my laptop that still have a couple of minor issues with, and he provided partial refund (for virus removal portion) to equal value to the amount they originally I was told for the service (malware portion).

So I changed my rating from 1 star to 3 star to average out from bad initial experience and good after care.

These guys are the best. True geeky computer lovin nice people. Which is what you want (ok, some are not geeky). I bought my little used workhorse of a laptop from them at least three years ago, and have had one problem with it, and they fixed it all for me today for free, at the counter, with no wait time. After this laptop gets too old to go anymore, I will go right back down there and buy another used refurbished State of Washington laptop again. In a world of crappy service and nothing for free these guys are refreshing.

I came here for a power supply recently so my buddy could make use of his video card. We tried to shop around, but nobody answers the phone at this place, and they don’t have online pricing like Infotech. Since we were down in Oly we didn’t want to travel too far. I literally had 2 phones on hold with these guys for over 15 minutes on both the service and the sales lines. Best Buy only had overpriced items in stock so we took a flier and went here anyway. There were 3 people who didn’t seem very busy, and the guy who helped us was very pleasant. I am not quite convinced about Kingwin brand power supplies since I hadn’t heard of them, but the price was right. He did say they are their most reliable manufacturer of power supplies. If it gives out before its time I will add an update.

These guys are good and honest and don’t treat me like I’m computer illiterate. They are nerds with an approachable attitude! Great service!

Had a motherboard replaced in ²⁄₂₀₁₁. Took more than 2 weeks, cost 10% less than a new, better system and still has problems with the video driver.

Fast service, super helpful staff. Great suggestions. I got a super great deal on a refurbished laptop for gaming, dedicated graphics card and all for under $ 350. They took the time to download a demo of the game to make sure this computer would work for my needs. I’m really happy that I stopped in to take a look around. I saved about $ 200.
