The Lafayette House used to be THE place to go for brunch. Since its heyday in the late 80’s and 90’s it has gone downhill a bit. The bad: Most of the chafing dish options were room temperature as was the carving station beef. Bagels were hard and no slicer in sight. Omelette station was sloppy, eggs were greasy, and the chef wasn’t paying attention to the orders. The good: The smoked salmon/lox was fabulous. The Chicken Santa Fe was tasty(if tepid) and the waffles and cheesecake were very good. Waitstaff was very friendly and attentive — the all you can drink«boozy brunch»(add $ 10 to your brunch tab and get unlimited bloody Mary’s and Mimosas) was cool– I had 3 very good bloody Mary’s. Dining room was large and well-kept. Restrooms were clean and well-kept. All things being equal– this used to be a 4 – 5 star brunch. Not so much anymore.

We eat here once in a while. Usually it’s pretty good. Tonight though I had the worst garlic potato soup ever — Like runny mashed potatoes plopped in a bowl. I complained and –are you sitting down? Was given $ 1.50 off my meal. Considering I had half a sandwich and a bowl of soup it didn’t seem very equitable. The place has looked the same for over 25 years. Tonight it just looked dark and dreary.

My friends took me for lunch there today here. This is the 1st time for, it is a bit hard to find cause the entrance is in the back of «The Lafayette House». It was a tiny place but cozy, lovely décor. I order a Hawaiian Ham Steak for lunch set, come with the soup or salad, I chose the soup, creamy broccoli soup, it was so freaking good. At the end of the meal, I have dessert, Mississippi cream mud pie. OMG, it is perfect. So, this will be my favorite place.

Lunch was bland and boring. Prime rib sandwich turned out to be sliced deli meat. Overly salty everything, but somehow still managed to be tasteless. So not worth the money.

Not a bad place. The food is pretty good. Good burger and excellent fries. Quite of few choices from apps to pub fare to actual entrees. Service is a bit sluggish, but we were not in a hurry. What they lack in this traditional-looking tavern(that is attached to a fancier restaurant and banquet venue) is a decent by-the-glass wine list. What I wouldn’t have given for a drinkable glass of wine. All they would have needed was a DaVinci chianti, or Château Ste. Michelle Merlot or Cab, and all would have been forgiven. If you don’t care about wine, and enjoy beer or cocktails with your food, then give this place a try.

The Marquis Tavern is a true hidden gem. Don’t just think of it as the place under the Lafayette House. The food and service has always excellent. One of the best burgers in the county. Always a good experience love a place you can sit have a casual meal with the whole family.
