I don’t understand the great reviews about this place at all… we showed up to a completely empty bar and the woman running the bar didn’t properly greet us and had a strange vibe to her. The bar wasn’t well lit enough so that I could see what beers were on tap, and she didn’t care enough to tell me. The menus were sticky and not up to date as she told us to ignore the whole back side of it. While we looked at the sparse menu with extreme price variations, she stood by us hovering and made us uncomfortable; by that point we had decided we didn’t want to spend any money there and left. No ambience, no service, no good food options, no patronage from me. We are currently at Manzana across the street and are having a wonderful time so we are glad we left. Call Bar Rescue on this place, please.

We’ve driven by the place so many times, and each time Matt and I thought it’d be a really dive-y bar judging from the exterior. On this particular fateful night, we decided to check it out. The interior of this establishment packs an old-time charm. It is retro, almost vintage-y. Ricki is the friendly bartender/manager that served us and her pours are deliciously strong. George, the owner, greeted us with enthusiasm and made us feel very welcomed. Blue Star Lounge might not be the hippest place in town, but the relationship one builds with this place can be quite long lasting. It seems like this place opened its doors in the 80’s and the patrons that frequent this bar are long-time customers. They also have a fireplace inside, I can definitely seem myself having a hot toddy or two during Portland’s long winter months!

Come here with friends for a drink or two. We enjoy the good service, price, and selection here. The outdoor seating is the perfect spot to see the lake.
