The 5k RunDead Zombie Run was a disaster. I’ve participated in numerous 5ks, and this 5k takes the cake for being the most disorganized. I bought a $ 29 Groupon and immediately got weird vibes because there was no online registration instructions or a means to receive updates on the event(red flag). Day of the event registration: No signs directing runners where the race was being held. Sunset park is huge, so signs directing where people should park is a must. Upon arrival, there was a huge line of people waiting to register. Booths were unmarked and everyone was confused on the registration process. I was handed a bag filled with a waiver and my bib, and a volunteer retrieved a t-shirt for me. No one asked for my name or to see my Groupon. I was just handed stuff. I could have run for free! The course: There was no clearly marked start or finish lines. WTF, over. The race started 20 minutes late. A volunteer using a barely audible handheld loudspeaker directed runners to follow her to the start of the course. The course consisted of running on a paved trail lap 2x. Boring. Since there was no finish line, I had no idea if the run was over. I asked a volunteer where it was. I think it’s over there, as she pointed seemingly nowhere. Also, this is the first race I’ve ever run in that had ZERO water stations along the course. I was handed a warm bottle of water at the end only. Other firsts — No music, no volunteers guiding the way directing runners where to run, no «cheerleaders», no speakers. Zombies: First lap around, there were plenty of zombies trying to grab your caution tape flags. Second time around, practically no zombies were left. Guess they got tired and seeing as there was no water around for anyone, got thirsty too. Worst. 5k. Ever. Unilocal100CHALLENGE2015: #51

When they advertise this as «the cheapest zombie run in the nation», they aren’t kidding. You get what you pay for. For $ 20(c/o Groupon), you too can show up early only to wander the park looking for the event. This is the most disorganized«organized event» I have ever experienced. –No packet pickup the day before, everything is day-of only –No signage on streets or within the park directing participants to the sign in area –ONE person signing people in on a clipboard, taking down confirmation numbers without referencing any sort of confirmed list while SIX!!! pass out t-shirts? –Trail is a joke, dirt path around a dirt hill. The original trail around the lake we were supposed to use was full of families feeding ducks, fishing, and having picnics. Clearly no one affiliated with this group bothered to make any formal arrangements for us to be there. -«Professional makeup artists» turning people into zombies were few, seemed like they didn’t have any«zombie volunteers» to take peoples flags, either. –Didn’t start on time, at all. Reference my picture below. Cut off for sign in was 3:30, race was supposed to start at 4:00. By 4:15 no one had made any sort of announcement about what was going on or when we could expect things to get going. I’m only glad I didn’t pay full price. As Cassandra B put it, «This was the worst 5K in the history of 5Ks.»
