Carmen

I am SO HAPPY that I found Carmen! On a total whim when I moved to Chicago last year, I bought a Groupon hoping I would strike gold with finding a new stylist. A gamble, yes, but it paid off.
I am particularly recommending Carmen for women who either want a big change with their hair (color or cut), or who already have short hair.
My first visit was incredible. Carmen took such good care of me and was extremely meticulous with my wavy but short hair (a deadly combination). She was running a little late from the appointment before me, but that did not affect how much care she gave to my haircut at all. I loved her right off the bat!
I’ve now had at least 6 cuts with Carmen, and she has since moved salons. She now shares space with her sister in Rogers Park-​ish. It’s a cute little salon and her sister is great to shoot the sh*&t with.
I had previously been to hoity-​toity salons where the stylists have judged me (as a woman) for having short hair, charge me $ 75 for a cut (that is the same as a man’s, but you know, because I’m a woman???), and send me out the door with a cut I’m not completely happy with. Carman is NOT that stylist at all and seeing her has taught me that getting my hair cut in Near North or Lincoln Park means absolutely nothing.
Try her out, you will LOVE what she can do with your hair!

I was 15 minutes late and used a Groupon for my highlights and cut, but Carmen professional and gracious and did a great job. I will go back to her for my next cut.

I went to carmen for partial highlights and haircut and blowout from a lifebooker loot. I am very happy with the results, she is a very knowlwdgeable stylist who really delivers her best and wants you to be happy with it. I must admit my hair took almost 4 hours, but the end result was good. If you know wat you want carmen is the person to go to. She is a sweet person.

I’ve been dying my hair brown/​black for YEARS and I wanted to get some nice brown highlights so I can eventually stop coloring and so the grays I’m starting to get are not so noticeable. I thought I only had semi-​permanent color left, but turns out there was still some permanent black color on my ends from years back. So, Carmen was really dealing with three different zones: no dye, semi-​permanent, and permanent. She did the highlights and then evened the color with a toner and I have the most beautiful golden brown highlights. I’m pretty stunned at how great it looks! Carmen is a very talented cosmetologist, I will be returning to her and I highly recommend her!

I had a chance to get another cut from Carmen last month.
I had been going to a barber for a few months as I don’t live close to her salon chair area.
The cut lasted about 1.5x — 2.0x as long as the barber cut. Why?
Carmen is meitculous (at least with my men’s cut) with combination of sheers, then careful use of scissors checking everything over several times. When she establishes a length or border, she makes it uniform. Felt great too (fewer edges, etc).
Looking forward to the next time I can get a cut.

Carmen is professional, super friendly, and I love the cut she gave me! The price is right, too. I’ll keep going back.
