Charlie Frias Park

The park itself is decent, but the dog park is just meh. There are no trees which I feel is necessary for a dog park in Las Vegas.
I also really dislike the gravel surrounding the small grassy areas. I always leave with rocks in my shoes and feeling like I have dust all over me.

This is an actual fenced in proper dog park and it was fabulous. We brought our dogs to Vegas for the first time and we’re staying at the Vdara bc it’s dog friendly. This was a great spot to run the dogs before we go out and gamble. The fenced in dog park is towards the back. They have a small dog and a large dog fenced in area. There is no water so be sure to bring your own bowls and water.

The puppy park is a little small especially considering how large the entire part is and the party party reason why I decided to come over here and check it out. There are 3 parks 1 it is in maintenance they obviously wrote a time but there a fraction of the size did they should be compared to the size of the park this is your located on decatur and tropicana. I would give the dog park at 3 because it’s well maintained but not big at all but the rest of the park gets a 4 rating because it’s a very large nice park well taken care and centrally located and a good used to space. If you’re in the area and want a break or if you want to give puppy a break I could be a good spot for you. I just noticed that there’s a tremendous amount of flies here so that’s not very appealing…

I would give this park 5 stars if the restroom was a little more well kept and closer to the left field lol it was so far when your 6 year old had to go and had to go bad lol other then that nice park. My kids have football practice here and well kept and real bright with lights at night.

For the dog park only: not a speck of shade. Ugly chain link fence and no view of anything. Cigarette butts everywhere. Grass seems well maintained. Fairly spacious. But I feel like I’m in a prison yard.

Go in the morning in the summer, you’ll find shade by the water splash and there will be breeze. Great park for lil ones

This park has a lower large field of grass. The loop runs roughly ²⁄₃ mile. The upper side of the park has the dog parks, which divides the large n small dogs. This park is very clean and not very crowded. During our trip, we came twice a day to take our dogs for a walk and run around. They loved it! We also saw a lot of activities, people training for football, soccer, boot camp stuff.

I’ve never lived in the desert and I don’t know if I’m being unfair, but I was not at all impressed with this park. It’s all flat and kind of barren and treeless and… I dunno, it’s just weird.
But my girlfriend did take a roughly cantaloupe-​sized rock from the side of the park (part of the landscaping — naughty girl, I know) and she really is quite happy with it so I guess there’s that.
(Locals, I really do like Las Vegas! A lot! Just not this park. Sorry about the rock.)

Cool playground areas for kids. One for 2 – 5 year olds and one for 5 – 12 year olds. Nicely shaded too.

The grassy areas are nice, but if you’re looking to take your kids to a playground, go elsewhere. The playground is small and pitiful. There is a tiny little splash pad, as well. At least it’s shaded.

I went to this park today for the first time. It’s big, has a nice running/​walking loop but there was dog dropping throughout the entire park. The dog park was a mess. The park has potential but not if its not kept up.

I love this park. Great location for someone like me that lives in Chinatown. Plus:
They have bball and tennis courts,
a giant field for rugby and football,
dog park separated for different sized dogs, playgrounds,
tables,
outdoor gym,
bathrooms
Fountains
Walking path around the field
«Hiking»
Scenic views
And lots of parking, even bike racks

*This is only a review of the dog runs at Charlie Frias.
I didn’t know that this park had dog runs, but when I pulled up I could kind of see why. It’s tucked all the way in the back northeastern-​most part of the park. The runs were much smaller than others that I’ve been to, but I was happy to see other dogs running around in the large dog area– something hit and miss with other parks. I was really surprised by how low the fences here are, it’s not something I usually think about since my dogs tend to have short legs but it was even noticeable to me so I wouldn’t recommend this park to dogs that can «just almost» clear your backyard fence.
Although I may come back, it wouldn’t be my first choice, or my second. You catch my drift.

I love this park. If you enter on Trop, you can walk down a flight of stairs to this huge grassy field with a ²⁄₃ mile concrete walking trail surrounding it. I come here on my lunch sometimes to get in some exercise. The trail is never crowded and it’s so big that you don’t really run into anyone else. If you enter from the Decatur side there is a playground, tennis courts and a dog park. There were lots of benches around the park, but I didn’t see any tables where I could sit outside and eat my lunch. I am sure they are there somewhere so I’ll have to go back and look for them. The park looked clean and well maintained. Also the bathrooms were clean and had actual toilet paper! This is surprising for a park in Vegas, but it may be because this park is newer. I did see a few homeless sleeping on benches, but that doesn’t bother me. I probably wouldn’t come here alone at night though because the area is pretty sketchy.

This dog park is pretty cool. Since I live near here I bring Kaipo to play with other dogs. I like that there’s 2 separate areas for the different dog sizes.
During the summer, there isn’t much shade for people & dogs and it gets pretty hot.
During the winter sometimes the water fountains don’t work.

Located closest to the strip, this is the park for us to walk the dog.
The main part of Charlie Frias Park is a monolithic land of turf and we love it.
Our dog has become completely blind this year, and wanted to find a park with a large, unobstructed and seamless turf. She is scared of bumping into walls or stumbling over a dip, but she can run around in this park without fear, as if she can see things!
This park gets busy after-​hours but usually has enough space to let our dog walk around.

Never thought I’d be writing a review of a park. But this place has a special place in my heart.
An oasis of green in the middle of the Las Vegas valley!
Great track around the grassy oval allows for jogging and bike riding. The west end is a cool stepped concrete amphitheater-​like area (officially a drainage channel holding basin) while the east end has numerous b ball courts, a soccer-​esqe area and also a kids playground with water feature (mini fountains that you can run/​stand in) perfect for hot vegas days!
Evenings at the park you can find joggers, teams and even groups of dogs being trained a la Caesar Milan. All very entertaining. It’s the perfect spot to lie placid on the grass while counting the developing stars up in the vegas sky.
More cities should have places like this.
Oh did I mention the whole park is hollowed out of rock so you get a Martian-​style cliffs all around it! Stop losing, start winning, check out this park. You re welcome!

Charlie Frias Park is a relatively new urban park that opened in October of 2012. The park stands at the crossroads of Tropicana at Decatur in the shadow of the Orlean’s. It is adjacent to a mobile home community and across the highway from a Las Vegas Athletic Club and Starbuck’s anchored strip mall. The Edmond Avenue power-​lines corridor runs cross the center of the park (perpendicular landmark when travelling on Tropicana).
The focal point of Charlie Frias Park is the natural bluffs and adjacent mini ecosystem. The bluffs are more than eye candy. They are the habitat for feral cats. In Charlie Frias Park cats enjoy the great outdoors where dogs enjoy the enclosed spaces of the dog park. The bluffs also separate the lower and upper park. The majority of the lower park is the open grassy spaces looped by a ²⁄₃ mile walking path. The grass ranges from golf course green to soggy. The grass is ideal for a diverse range of activities including soccer and flying a kite. However a posted sign prohibits golf. From the lower park, there is a neat view blending in the Orleans with the Strip. The main view is the natural bluffs. The park drive parallel to Decatur Boulevard connects the lower and upper park. The upper park features a state-​of-​the-​art playground, dog park, and overlook affording a unique perspective of the bluffs.
Normally when I spend time in a park, I would be walking on sunshine. Not at Charlie Frias Park. A nice way to put it is that an element of individuals in the immediate area were walking on moonshine. This past Saturday when I walked from the Panda Express a block east off Tropicana to the park and later drove in the Home Depot parking lot, I passed far too many shady characters. Inside the park, it was relatively desolate. As far as security, there was zilch. My instincts told me that if I crossed paths with the bad guy that I would be very vulnerable. Normally when I spend time in a park, my mind goes on vacation. Not here. I was very alert.
For the most part, Charlie Frias Park has made the crossroads of Tropicana at Decatur a better place. I give the park a high score on being relatively graffiti free. The one graffiti tag I laid my eyes on was at the overlook bench. Prior to October 2012, when the County developed Charlie Frias Park, graffiti obliberated the bluffs. Today this graffiti is gone. The park also provides open space along Tropicana Avenue separating transient land-​uses (hotels and short-​stay apartments) from local communities.
I am a park lover. I am glad to have spent time in this relatively new park. However, it is not my favorite and I don’t plan on going out of my way to return here in the near future.

This is a very nice park. I like how they took a giant space of nothing and turned it into something. The field is large, the park area is nice, and the dog park is well maintained. Sounds like a winner to me.
There were about 10 football teams training on the large fielded area down below. There was so much space that each team was capable of working uninterrupted. The playground area was practically brand new. No tagging, no ripped up flooring, and no trash in the kids area. The bathrooms were clean, although you had to take a small hike to get to them. One of the coolest things about this park are the small trails on the north side. It was packed with kids climbing up and down the small hills having a blast. Its close enough to the dog park and larger playground, that a parent can let their kid play comfortably.
