I live in the penthouse apartment of this HOTEL, not motel. It’s on the National Registry of Historical Buildings and Las Vegas, NM has 900 structures on the Registry. It’s the coolest place I’ve ever lived, I mean this hotel and this town! The art community is awesome, with several galleries in town. The El Fidel Hotel also has nightly rooms to rent. An enchanting place to live or just visit. This hotel is definitely not a cookie-cutter hotel chain and if you want to step into the past you will love the atmosphere. I like to imagine the people who passed through my Hotel during the gilded age of America. Also has a delicious restaurant next door of the same name. I give 5 stars for uniqueness. And Wi-Fi does reach me on the top floor.

This 1920’s hotel has gotten a shave and a haircut but not plastic surgery; it’s rich in preserved character and homey-comfortable, family run with good execution of the basics. El Fidel is inexpensive, clean, quiet and situated just off the Old Town area of Las Vegas. Eponymous restaurant on the first floor features locally grown produce. Four and a half stars– only because wireless does not work above the first floor.
