ordered the street tacos — could barely see the tortillas. Very small — for $ 12 — 3 tacos, with pico, sour cream and guacamole, and a smashed bit of fried beans with cheese on it and about 6 tortillas chips. Not worth it. Not the Matty’s it was 5 years ago. Hasn’t been the same since Matty died. — Really a shame…

The food here is amazing. And it’s very well priced too! The gaming is better than most places I go. But mostly, the staff is incredible. They are funny, kind, quick, and always ready with what you need. Best bar I’ve been to in a long time. NFL game action with Sunday ticket and fantastic mimosas make a great Sunday morning. The bartenders are awesome!

Totally surprised with the quality of the food! My boyfriend and I ended up going here when we were hungry and broke. We had an expired Groupon and happened to go during happy hour! How perfect? We ended up ordering quite a few delicious things that were all filling for super cheap. For an appetizer, we got nachos with the chicken on the side. It was a huge portion for only a few dollars. My boyfriend ordered the pulled pork sliders(they come with fries) and I ordered a Mediterranean pizza with no olives. The pizza was a perfect portion and my boyfriend liked the sliders quite a bit. The fries were PERFECT. I can’t stress that enough. I could order those by the bucket. They were crispy on the outside but not too crispy on the inside. Perfect taste! The only reason I don’t give this place 5 stars is because of the service. We didn’t get noticed for a few minutes but there was only one other party of about 6 people there. Our waiter was nice once we were seated though!

Great drink specials, but not so great food. Happy hour here is from 3pm-7pm, and it’s half off ALL alcohol and appetizers. Let me say that again, HALFOFFALLALCOHOL. Pretty unbeatable for drink specials. The food is another story. We ordered mac n cheese balls, flat breads, fried calamari, and nachos. Mac n cheese balls These aren’t what you’re thinking. They are two giant balls of lightly fried mac n cheese covered in marinara sauce. The marinara sauce was super overpowering to some really mediocre mac n cheese. Fried calamari Such a shame. Very very very overcooked. Barely any breading on it. It was super tough to eat and very rubbery. I finished it only because I hate wasting the life of any animal that has found its way to my plate. Flatbreads Not great. Crust was burnt in places. Ordinary marinara sauce and giant blobs of mozzarella. Nachos Exactly how you could make them at home. The food was incredibly disappointing and took a long time as well. You can get much better at Steiners, Rounders, or similar. I hate to write a bad review, but I have to be honest about the quality here. I would most likely come back for their awesome happy hour. The wait staff was friendly, funny, and quick with the drink services.

2 stars because of the mgmt change. Don’t read this wrong cuz the service, staff, facility is really nice. HOWEVER… I’m Sooooo upset about the menu change with the new mgmt. This place had the BEST French Dip and chicken fingers and they don’t offer it anymore. Also as a non smoker, it sucks since they opened up the smoking section everywhere so you’ll sit there and eat in a cloud of smoke… Sadly, this will be my last visit, mainly because they don’t serve The best French dip anymore… This is now just a average bar

Since the management change, there has been a major change in the menu. As others have mentioned, no more prime rib special. Also no more chicken-fried steak; and fewer Mexican dishes. However, the burgers are still terrific. One positive change is that appetizers and flatbreads – along with draft beer – are half price until 7 p.m. So you can come here and get a casual dinner and drink for a really good price. [They also have a half-price breakfast deal, right at breakfast time, so that’s nice to know.] However, I’m downgrading them a star because since the mgt. change, they’ve closed their non-smoking section off. Now we have to eat in the regular, very smoky bar section. Being a non-smoker, I really don’t want to do that; and will probably not be coming here as much; unless I find out they’ve re-opened their nice dining section.

I just learned this morning about«no more prime-rib.» May as well just go to PT’s. Same smell and much closer. Very very not happy.

Although they are going through the management change, I can’t hold that against the staff. I am always treated very well by the entire staff. I have been going there since 2006.

Just stopped in to relax after work w/a few friends. They changed their menu and I was a little skeptical bc I always ordered the same thing to eat but was no longer on the menu. To my surprise the new menu offers a lot of great food. We had the caprese salad, flatbread pizza, and some calamari… all was very good. The service w/Jason and Katrina was excellent as always.

Why do you change a good thing? You were known for your Prime Rib special and very good albondigas soup(I actually thought your soup was better than the mexican cantina restaurant at suncoast AND better than Juan’s Flaming Fajitas.) But when we came here a few nights ago, your whole menu was changed, you removed the prime rib(should’ve left it on) We were a party of 4 and we’ve been here several several times and this time, we all got up and walked out! I can get regular bar food ANYWHERE! Who ever is making these changes, better fix something real fast because you’re losing customers. READYOURREVIEWS! You’re not the only place in this city to get a decent prime rib dinner. Now you’re nothing special, same bar menu like every place in town, we have no reason to come here now. BYE…

If I had been writing a review for the previous time I visited Mad Matty’s(roughly 1 or 2 months ago) I would have given a solid 5 stars for this place. The atmosphere is quiet and has a somewhat old-fashioned feel to it which I really like. The reason I loved it so much was their prime rib special, $ 14.99 for a double cut with sides to match! I was in paradise! The other food was good too and very reasonably priced as well. Now, the reason I give 2 stars now is that as some of you may have read in the other recent reviews, they are going through a management change at the moment, and it is being very, very poorly executed. The website still has their menu with the prime-rib special labeled on it and all, but when I was seated I notice that the menu was the same, but a white label was crudely taped over where the special was listed on the menu… I asked the server(who was very kind) about the special and she said that they had removed the special along with almost everything on the menu. I understand and respect a business’ choice to change a menu or what –have-you in trying to keep their business profitable and such. But how difficult is it to get new menus that reflect what you actually serve, or at least continue the current menu until everything is ready to be launched. All in all, I’d say the way they are making changes right now are extremely sloppy and I don’t think it will likely that I return again unfortunately.

I have been coming here for 10+ years and it’s always been a fun atmosphere with very good food. As of New Years day the atmosphere and food menu is scheduled to change. The entire dining room and kitchen staff have been replaced. The dining room is closed and will be a slot parlor similar to Dotties, Mollys, Jackpot Joanies, etc. I have eaten at the bar three times since the change and the results were disappointing. Ordered a burger medium — was served well done. Ordered wings — they were way way overdone and dry. Ordered Chicken tortilla soup — not the same as before and a little too spicy. If you are closing the dining room I understand firing the servers. But getting rid of an excellent kitchen staff doesn’t make sense. If Bob starts firing the current bartenders that will do it for me I’m afraid. I can understand the two concepts(Dotties and taverns) seperately, as they cater to different clientele. But mixing them under one roof? Time will tell. Seems risky to me.

Been frequenting Mattys going on 8 years now so as you can imagine it’s definitely a special place indeed. Over the years the original bartenders and staff have moved on and things have changed in terms of the interior and service quality. 5 stars for our originals, Stan, Sheila, Big John(R.I.P.), Art, Eddie, Erin and Dina. Their original menu never disappointed and you’d be hard-pressed to find anything less than good back in the day(5 stars there). Apparently management has decided to downsize the menu and do away with almost 90% of the items which has regulars less than satisfied. As of January 1st, management has decided to shut down the dining area and renovate in hopes that they can appeal to a younger crowd with more of a lounge feel near the fireplace. Have to keep up with the times I guess. I get that. Fingers crossed things go well. At the end of the day, let’s see how the place goes after the renovations have been completed as it’s too early to tell what the outcome will be. Regardless, I’ll still be paying a yearly visit just for the memories and a cocktail or two.

Is this place open. The reviews indicated it was a 24 hour restaurant but it was closed up at 6:30am.

Came here because I purchased a Groupon. I do not live in this part of town, but I wish I was nearby because it is a decent enough neighborhood spot. The bartenders were super sweet and attentive. Many tv’s on for my ESPN fix. I ordered their prime rib which is only $ 10 and it did not disappoint. I chose the shrimp albondigas soup, and I really liked it. Broth-y but generous with the shrimp meatballs. The prime rib came with garlic mashed potatoes and veggies. Great service and decent prices.

This is definitely worth trying out. My first time for breakfast. Adela was friendly. The omlette was good and the food cooked with competence. The prices are amazingly affordable. And they have TV for the sports fans.

Has a cool 70s retro feel, but not like crappy old. More like Mad Men or any tv show set in the 70s. Got a ½ pound burger and fries for 6.50. Pretty good. Happy hour is 4 – 7 with $ 2 drafts. Service isn’t the fastest. Seriously. Don’t come here if you have a short lunch break. Would probably come back.

Since our b-fast fiasco we’ve been back to Matty’s several times.(not for b-fast). The afternoon/evening service is very good. The latest dinner was the Blu cheese/mushroom steak. Yumm. The bartender was super and treated us as ‘regulars’. He helped the wife with a new players card. Also the remodel of the dining room is really nice, stonework and more tables by the windows. Bottom line… we’ll be authentic ‘regulars’ at Matty’s.
