I prefer to go with a more experienced Eye Doctor, too many questions surrounding this one.

Dr. Chung is truly a God-​send!!! I feel badly for waiting so long to do this review. He saved my son’s vision! My 30 yr old son was complaining about «eye problems» to his wife & his sister, but hadn’t mentioned anything to me. He suffers from sickle-​C, which is a form of sickle cell anemia. Long story short, this is relevant because one of the major effects of the disease is deterioration of blood vessels — like in the eyes. He was referred, rather casually after an ER visit. Thank God, Dr. Chung saw him the very next day.
It was life-​altering news. My son was legally blind in one eye and quickly losing sight in the other. The one eye needed to be stabilized before the other could be operated on in the event the operation wasn’t successful. Dr. Chung explained it carefully, thoroughly, patiently — to my son, his wife, to me (then later to my husband and the rest of the family) — answered all of our questions; Gave us time to cry together, pray together… My son had 1 daughter and his wife was pregnant with their 2^nd. He was afraid he’d never get to «see» his 2^nd child’s face.
Dr. Chung fought to save my son’s sight as if his own life depended on it. We could not have hoped for more or better.
There were so many challenges and stumbling blocks that came up each time we tried to go to surgery– getting surgery time, clearance, nurses, you name it. We went from hospital to hospital. It was real battle, and we were battling against time. Dr. Chung did everthing to move heaven and earth to get the surgery done on time and safely. In the end, we were pleased that Dr. Chung himself was able to perform the surgery, because we knew that no matter the outcome, he would have done everything possible in the OR. If it had been anyone else and things went badly, we might always question if more could have been done — but not with Dr. Chung.
I give him the highest recommendation of all– not only would I trust him with my life, I would trust him with my child’s life– and that’s the most!!!

I am a physician who knows a good doctor when I see one.
This man is great, not just good.
He did a very thorough physical exam, something which is not too common with younger doctors these days. With treatment he was very conservative even though he is a surgeon.
I was seen as an emergency and was promptly taken care of. I look forward to continue care with Dr. Chung because I know that he is exactly the type of physician who can truly help me with my health issues.

I see Dr. Chung at his Rockville office. I have been a patient of his for several years. During my initial visit he asked many questions and he determined that there were certain things I needed to do in order to prolong the health of blood vessels in my eye that would have very shortly impacted my vision. With his guidance and support for the past 3+ years my vision has remained the same and I am extremely grateful for this as I had no idea, and there was no indication, that a problem even existed.
I have so much faith in Dr. Chung’s abilities that I have referred, not only friends and relatives, but, my very own daughter whom has had issues with her eyes since early childhood.
I nightly recommend Dr. Chung to those that are seeking a caring, thorough and compassionate doctor that strives to do the best for his patients.

I can’t comment about the other’s person’s review (which I was surprised to read given my experience) but I can say without a doubt that Dr. Chung saved my eye! On my visit during Thanksgiving to see my family in the DC area, I noticed some black spots in my vision. I was reluctant to do anything at first thinking it was something temporary that would go away by itself. A few days later, I began losing the bottom of my vision. HOUSTON: WE HAVE A PROBLEM! I realized that something was very wrong which I was later told was a family curse. After some arm twisting by my relatives, my uncle quickly drove me to Dr. Chung’s clinic. He had nothing but praises for Dr. Chung after having successfully fixed his retinal detachment in one shot. After careful lengthy examinations, Dr. Chung showed me the pictures and confirmed what I had feared. I was really upset with the possibility of losing my eyesight at my age (36). Dr. Chung explained patiently how it occurred so early and the cause of my high myopia was a genetic predisposition (not that it makes the situation any better). He spent a great deal of time discussing the benefits and side effects of each option and I can see that he was serious and intent on getting a successful attachment on the first surgery. Given that success with my uncle, I went felt confident with his abilities. He froze my eye with liquid nitrogen, and then gave me a shot of gas bubble in my eye. I was wide awake throughout the whole thing. Surprisingly the needle didn’t hurt, though my eye was sore for a few days afterwards from the freezing. My retina was attached after couple of days of sleeping upright. Dr. Chung was very happy with my result, needless to saw so was I. :) I took the Amtrak home a week later and my local retina specialist for a follow up said he did a great job saving my vision. It’s been six months now and so far so good. No adverse symptom and I’m seeing at ²⁰⁄₂₀. After some discussion, I learn retinal detachment happened to 4 other relatives in the past. Some of whom went blind after multiple surgeries. Our family is 2 for 2 with Dr. Chung with retina detachments (both in one shot). If this ever happens to me the other eye, I’d fly back to DC to see Dr. Chung in a heartbeat. From the bottom of my heart and my families hearts: Thank you Dr. Chung for your gift of sight. You are awesome!

I should preface that the information I am submitting is not secondhand, hearsay, or unsubstantiated. The fact is I had to accompany both patients because of a language barrier therefore all the information presented was translated by me to each patient.
The two other reviewers must be friends of Dr. Chung’s to give him such glowing recommendations.
My family has had two experiences with Dr. Chung. Both were egregiously careless and negative accounts. This review is long because it hopes to detail key elements warranted by the lowest rating.
The first patient was my brother, accompanied by my mother and I, who went to see him because my brother felt awful pain in his eye. Dr. Chung prescribed him three drops, one was a steroid. While I understand steroids are commonly used, we try to avoid them unless absolutely necessary because of the potentially harmful side effects of extended use. This doctor said that my brother had to use it every single day for the time prescribed otherwise he’d have to start the régime all over. But he never gave a definitive end date only that it was to be used 4/​day until his eye pain was better. Another option was for a shot of steroids that would for last 6 months, this way he wouldn’t have to remember to administer the drops daily.
After several weeks of following his «régime» to a T, my brother’s symptoms were not only still present but he had developed a hard, circular mass behind his ear of the same eye that was receiving treatment. In a panic, my mother brought my brother in to see Dr. Chung. She asked him if this was normal and if it could be related to the drops. Dr. Chung said he had no idea what the growth was but it was definitely NOT related to the drops. If he did not know what it was, is it not grossly negligent to discount that option? He said the causes of my brother’s condition are difficult to ascertain unless numerous tests were ordered. Unfortunately, all the tests were extremely costly. As my mother and brother prepared to leave, Dr. Chung suggested it could also be cancerous.
Upon hearing this, my mother was worked into a frenzy, taking him to see doctor after doctor, for a second, third, fourth opinion. We literally went to see four other doctors; all of them said that they would have never prescribed that combination of medications. They also had similar explanations and remedies for his eye pain, none of them as serious as Dr. Chung concluded. Basically, being a college student, my brother tends to stay up late nights studying (aka gaming), paired with not taking out his contacts when he goes to sleep, equals bad news for his eyes. After the second, third, fourth opinions, my mother discontinued the drops right away and guess what, the mass disappeared almost immediately.
While certainly I am not a medical doctor but I have to say the result is too close to be coincidental.
The second patient was my grandmother who was having difficulty with her vision. Against the advice of my mother, my aunt had gone ahead and made an appointment with Dr. Chung. I was not present for the appointment but witnessed the reaction my aunt had to his diagnosis. He stated that my grandmother’s optic blood vessels were degenerating and would soon be blind. Dr. Chung is a fantastic doctor — he’s been monitoring and maintaing my retinal tears for a couple years now.
I am a graduate student in the sciences and as a result he frequently gives me in-​depth insight into the pathogenesis of the condition. I sincerely appreciate the respect he gives his patients.

Dr. Chung was very professional and thorough. He made me feel at ease and took time to explain in an understandable manner the reason why I had floaters. I highly recommend him.
