I have returned three times since my last post; it has gotten worse. The service has been good, but the kitchen seems to be pumping out«food things,» with little cognizance of what it should or does taste like. Unless you’re ordering exclusively from the sushi menu, be prepared to be underwhelmed and frustrated. My last visit took all of one hour and twenty minutes to deliver me four appetizers during happy hour — deplorable and revealing of systemic problems, but the doors were open, and they were seating, after all. The management and serving staff are gracious and amicable — but the kitchen seems entirely overwhelmed, unorganized, and flavor deaf. Taste that which you charge people to consume! Also, the chicken here is always slightly overcooked, bland, and disappointing; I personally will never order a chicken item again — not a single one. The ribs are also fatty and flavorless once the salty sweet sauce quickly wears off, and everything fried is simply«FRIED» — no flavor, just fried. They actually sauced and garnished a one inch, dry rib bone, and put it on my plate. The sushi is always great I’ve been told, and it comes quickly most of the time. I particularly like the shrimp nigiri, if not slightly expensive for what you receive. Avoid the menu pertaining to anything but the sushi; honestly, they should serve exclusively sushi, because the former screams of mediocrity, and is seemingly too far from their core competency to be executed well enough to charge for.

Service was slow. Food ok. Constant loud, irritating music drowns out any conversation you might want to have. If you don’t like to think, relax, or enjoy pleasant conversation, than this is the place for you.

Sushi is over priced, but highly recommend the lunch specials. Great happy hour specials. Evening feels more like a night club than a restaurant. Staff is always smiling and friendly.

One of our favorite places to eat. Great little area with lots to do. The sushi here is always top notch & many varieties are available. Full bar with good Sake, overall a real cool spot. Recommended for sure

Happy hour with a dear friend. I wish I’d chosen a different sushi place. RA Shushi is a bar that happens to serve sushi that’s just meh. The waitress had no recommendations and seemed clueless as to what was popular or yummy. She ended up charging me full price for a maki roll that was on the happy hour menu. The rangoon was sub-par and I had to ask for wasabi and ginger. I won’t be back. Horridly loud atmosphere and while the waitress seemed attentive she really was not helpful and didn’t know the menu. Maybe if your drinking the food tastes better…

Pros: Convenient location, awesome happy hour, nice interior, great music and decent sushi. It is a great spot for a date night. I am addicted to its environment. Cons: Calamari tempuras were the worst I have ever tried. Sashimi cuts are thinner than your average sushi place. Overpriced maki rolls. Our server was not attentive and a little snobby. I had to go to the bar to refill my water and ask for another drink. We saw the server once when we ordered and another time when we got our bill(which we had to go to the bar again to ask if our server could bring out our check… twice). Maybe we just got unlucky that day! Would come back for the environment and drinks but not for the food or service.

In the Kansas City market Ra is a very decent sushi option. I’ve dined at Ra in San Diego and Phoenix as well and this location produces identical food. Try and go in during happy hour if you can and enjoy discounted rolls and appetizers. Awesome spot for a date or even a late family lunch.

Great place, will definitely come back. The happy hour menu is awesome, lots of variety, great discounts and you can sit wherever you like, did I mention it goes all the way until 7pm?! We feasted on the Viva Las Vegas Roll, Rainbow Roll, Tuna Roll and Spicy Tuna Rolls. Along with a side of pork gyoza and edamame that was plenty to keep the three of us happy. All our sushi was beautiful wrapped and presented. Fresh. Delicious. I would suggest several orders of the gyoza, they were hot and crispy and the perfect accompaniment to the cold sushi. The edamame were dressed up with coarse salt flecked on them adding a nice punch of flavor. Vinny our bartender was great. Attentive, friendly, and some great suggestions regarding drinks. The décor and club like atmosphere aren’t really my thing personally, but it works. It was a little loud, and little dark in some corners, but I’d still consider this as a place for a date, business happy hour, or a fun night out.

If you enjoy paying a high price for sub par quality americanized sushi than Ra is a great option. Don’t bother If you truly love Asian cuisine. But if you feel like unloading a good chunk of change for sub part food and a snooty atmosphere and staff than Ra is worth a go.

Let me begin by saying the service at this place is exceptional! They have a couple mangers on site at all times who are all engaged with the customers and staff appropriately. Was pleasantly surprised to find out they gave us a 5% first time customer discount(no questions asked) and complimentary edamame! Not enough restaurants — especially chains — do this anymore and it was definitely appreciated. Ok, so now I have to be honest… Very, very subpar sushi. Maybe it’s because I’ve had REALLY awesome sushi in bigger cities and all, but this was just not good. I sampled the Ra chips and salsa, spring roll, chicken yakitori and yakisoba, viva Las Vegas roll, rainbow roll and spicy yellowtail roll. The spring rolls were deep fried and crispy hot on the outside — but freezing cold on the inside. Not sure if that was intentional but it was a little off-putting. The tuna in the Ra chips and salsa was fresh and yummy but the wonton chips were soaked in grease. The chicken in the yakitori and yakisoba dishes was so over cooked it bordered on inedible. The sushi rolls I sampled were just average. I honestly could get better sushi closer to my house for about a third of the price. I got the bill(almost 80 $) and was kind of bummed I had to pay that much for food that just wasn’t that great. The lighting is also REALLY dim and makes it hard to see, but I think they were kinda going for the swanky vibe. So, I really enjoyed the service and actually commend it. The food just leaves something to be desired. Also — try a Shiso Naughty martini if you’re there on happy hour! Totally delicious.

I honestly never liked sushi before coming here but after one visit, I was sold! I even got my husband addicted and he wasn’t a fan of sushi either! The service here is a hit or miss! And it’s either super busy or completely dead. The ambiance is trendy and hip and makes you feel like you’re getting sushi somewhere in California! Definitely check out their happy hour deals! They have a wide selection to choose from and the prices are a steal! My favorites are the Las Vegas roll, Tootsy Maki, and rainbow roll! Make sure to save your receipts for your next visit! There’s a survey on the bottom and you receive a $ 10 off code if you spend more than $ 30 on your next visit!

My experience was great! Promptly greeted. Super fast service. Great food. Servers were friendly and very nice. Katelyn was our server. She was super friendly and informative about the menu. Happy hour menu is amazing. The Las Vegas Roll is an absolute must. Pineapple cheese wontons were also interesting and great. Best sushi place south of the river. Last thing: $ 4 valet. Can’t beat that.

Is this Jimmy Johns or a Sushi place, because the service was freaky fast?! Okay 3.5 stars doesn’t begin to describe my experience here. I had a top notch evening. First off their happy hour deals are great, you are getting $ 20 rolls for $ 8.99. Our waitress, Katelyn, was wonderful. She kept the drinks and sushi coming. She was also helpful in regards to suggesting menu selections. We had the pineapple cheese wontons, they were great. But the sushi was so yummy, and you can pair it with prosecco for $ 7 a glass. The décor is fun and romantic, dark lighting with reds accents. Cannot beat this place! Also – There is valet for $ 4 and is 100% worth it, it’s very convenient.

Solid but overpriced sushi. Slick décor and funky vibe makes you feel like you’re in a large urban area and not in the middle of the Heartland. But back to the food. The sushi is comprised of tasty, satisfying portions, but it is priced way to high. There are options for equally good to slightly better sushi priced lower in the area. Perhaps RA’s prices are to pay for the overall big city vibe? Hmm. Either way, a good place for tasty sushi especially at later hours. Just bring a little extra cash.

This was a tough one to rate for me. Honestly, it’s probably closer to a 3.5 star place, but oh well. The sushi/food I tried were great. I shared two rolls(tootsy maki roll and crunchy calamari roll) and an order of the pork gyoza. These were all off the happy hour menu(happy hour goes until 7!) at pretty decent prices. While food during happy hour was well priced, I didn’t think the drinks were a very good deal. I had one(red sangria) and it was good, but not good enough to order another. Also, the place has a very hip/trendy feel, which is typically fine, but it was a little much here. It was really dark, and when we walked in we were given like five seating choices — high top table, bar, sushi bar, other dark area, etc. Just be prepared to feel very trendy!

When it comes to good, reasonably priced sushi… one of my Go To’s is RA Sushi. Today the sushi was fresh and delightful. In my opinion their best lunch deal is the sashimi lunch special. They have a good grade of teka tuna, yellowtail, and salmon, served with a shiso leaf and daikon… it is wonderful. I never let the shiso leaf so to waste… rather I wrap it around the daikon and dip it in soy sauce and YUM!!! But the best today was the Uni(Sea Urchin tongue). It was absolutely scrumptious today. So good I posted a picture. I will be back!!!

I liked the exterior of RA as well as the location(it was conveniently right next to the hotel I was staying in) immediately. You could see the sushi bar as soon as you walked in which was nice and there was tons of seating. We went during reverse HH on a Saturday so much of the bar seating was taken already. We ended up at an awkward railing type of seat that forced us to spread out, causing us to not really talk as it was harder to hear each other. The interior was nicely designed, but a bit too dark lighting wise. Our waitress took our order promptly and the wait time wasn’t too bad. I started with the white peach sake sangria which was pretty good. Not terribly strong, which was helpful after Power & Light the night before, and fresh. Would have liked a few pieces of peach in the sangria. My first roll was the shrimp tempura roll which arrived in 5 pieces. Really liked the crab mix, hated the tempura batter. The bits of cucumber on the end pieces were a bit too big to eat in one piece so I ended up taking them out. Gagged a little when I discovered the shrimp tail on the end piece still had its shell. Next was the crunchy calamari roll. I didn’t get much of the tempura batter in this one, which could be a good thing(because I hated it) or a bad thing(did that mean i didn’t get much actual calamari). Was expecting this roll to be a bit more flavorful, which it wasn’t. The spinach tempura pieces looked fun, but you don’t really taste them at all. Overall I didn’t love this place, but they had quite a few HH appetizers that I’d be interested in trying. I’d also try a few of their non-HH rolls.

Sushi in Kansas? To be in a landlocked state, RA does sushi well! We started with the garlic edamame. I love edamame and had never had it this way — sauteed in a garlic butter sauce. They were a little messy, but totally worth it. I typically stick with simple sashimi when eating sushi but this time decided to go with one of their specialty rolls — the Zonie. Made with salmon, cucumber, cilantro and jalapeño and topped with avocado and Sriracha, the roll had everything I love in it. While I did not find it spicy at all, it was refreshing and filling, and one order was plenty to satisfy my hunger. While we didn’t see our server a lot, he always had an eye on our table and would purposely not come over if he saw our group deep in conversation. I really like a server who is aware of their table — attentive but not hovering. We never went without drink refills and whenever we did need him, he was always close by. We ate outside and while it was a bit hot and humid, it was nice to enjoy the music from the restaurant next door and the people watching in this area full of restaurants and shops.

I hadn’t been to the Park Place area in a few months and was blown away how different it looks out there. The amount of development going on is massive, with new buildings, parking garages and restaurants popping up. I was going to Ra Sushi for the first time in a long time and went in with an open mind. While the ‘scene’ isn’t necessarily my thing, I did remember it as a big and open restaurant with pretty good food. Our table opened up with the chili garlic shrimp with bok choy. It was verrry heavy on the garlic and wasn’t my favorite. Next up was a plate with the Red Heart roll; crab, avocado, cucumber topped with spicy tuna and sriracha. Now we’re talking! This was awesome and I would plan to go back on this alone. Just a hint of heat and and an awesome combo of flavors. This was also paired with a Crunchy Yami roll that had a tempura sweet potato and cucumber. Different, but pretty good. We did a sample salad of a King Crab salad and the crab was delicious, but I’m not sure how it mixed with the greens. It almost tasted like two entirely separate dishes that accidentally got mixed together. One of the highlights of our lunch was the seared Ahi Tuna. These were not those millimeter thin seared ahi strips I’ve had in the past, these were huge pieces like miniature tuna steaks. TL:DR; Ra Sushi serves some really good food, and while it’s vibe isn’t my thing, I think it’s a good place when you’re craving sushi and it has«work happy hour» written all over it.
